Chapter Two

Mal strode into the briefing room, stopped and sent Elias a glare. "Joy, to what do we owe the honor of your odious presence?"

"I suggest you behave, Malachy."

"Why? If I don't, are you going to destroy more of my life?" He tried very hard to ignore the rest of his team who was here for their mission briefing as they stared at him. He hadn't filled them in on the fact that Elias wasn't some random IOA agent, he was his step-brother. They were all new to the program so they didn't have a clue. The Major looked as if he was waiting for the General to kick his ass out and declare that the Major was now in charge of SG-1. The old bastard would probably love that.

"Don't blame me for your failures, Malachy."

He snorted out a laugh. "Me? You are the one who has spent our lives blaming me for everything that goes wrong in your life as if you're some hero and I'm your arch nemesis! Suck it up, Elias, and get yourself a life and stay the hell out of mine!"

Amelia jumped up from her seat. "Maybe you two should take a step back and calm down."

Major Fischer snorted. "Maybe the children should go to the corner and think about what they've done."

Dr. Menken put a hand over her face with a sigh.

Mal sent them all a glare.

Elias jumped up from his seat. "I haven't liked you from the moment I laid eyes on you! You're a self-centered brat and the only person you care about is yourself!"

"That shows how much you know, I have cared about a lot of people but I stopped showing it because you butt in and find a way to tear them out of my life!" he shouted. "The only thing that has ever mattered to you is destroying my life!" He laughed and shook his head. "Tell me, what did you do before I came into your life, huh? Whose life did you fuck with before that?"

"You're delusional! I am doing my job!" Elias bellowed.

"Oh, so your job is to screw up my life? That's a good thing to know," Mal shouted back.

"Colonel, that is enough!" Sam shouted as she came out of her office.

"I want him removed from the Stargate Program immediately!" Elias demanded.

"On what grounds?" she asked him.

"On the ground that he isn't fit to command SG-1!"

"I'm not foolish enough to listen to your ranting, Mr. Albrecht. It's more than obvious that you've turned your job into a personal vendetta. You never should have been allowed to keep this position once it was understood you had a less than stellar history with Colonel Hughes. Get off my base and don't return until you're ready to act like an impartial adult. Is that understood?" Sam asked.

"Fine, but you can bet that I will be reporting this to Rowen the moment I'm able to."

"Do what you must," Sam told him.

Elias sent Mal a look of loathing before he stalked from the room.

"Colonel, I suggest you find a way to deal with your brother being here or I will remove you from active duty and you can remain on base. Is that understood?"

"Understood. I apologize, General."

"Your mission for today is scrubbed. Go and calm down, Colonel. Dismissed."

"Yes, General." The moment he was out of the room he pulled out his phone and dialed Lee. "I kept him busy for as long as I could, I don't know if he's on his way back to his place or not but he's left the base on orders from the General."

"Not a problem, I'm out already and the proof has been sent to the proper authority. Anonymously of course."

"You are an angel, Captain."

"That's nice of you to say, sir, but I feel like those wings would get in the way and I'd probably get my halo caught on stuff."

He chuckled. "See you at your house later."

"Over and out." She hung up.

He hoped to God whoever she had decided to send the evidence to cared enough about the SGC to do something about the information. He'd have to ask her later who she sent the information to.

Sam looked up as Rowen came into her office. "Rowen, how are you?"

"I've been better."

"I'm sorry to hear that. How can I help you?"

Rowen sighed and held out a folder. "This was sent to the President last evening."

Sam took the folder with a frown. "And why does it concern the SGC?"

"The information appears to come directly from a personal journal or some sort of writings kept by Agent Albrecht. It would seem I must apologize for his behavior."

Sam's brows rose and she opened the folder to look at the images it contained. They appeared to be photographs of writings in a notebook of some sort. She skimmed through them and Rowen was correct they appeared to be a journal of some sort. The pages detailed a plan to catch SG-1 in the act of disobeying rules in order to have them separated. She looked up at Rowen. "Perhaps now someone will take a closer look at his reports before taking them as gospel. It's clear from this that Mr. Albrecht has a personal agenda."

Rowen sighed. "Unfortunately it isn't up to me where he's placed. For the time being he will remain assigned as the agent who directly oversees operations here at the SGC."

"That seems counterproductive."

Rowen shrugged. "I might be in charge of the agents who keep an eye on things here but the final decision of who goes where is not mine to make, there are others in a much higher position that want him to remain. They consider him ..." She paused.

"Biased enough to do us in?" Sam finished for her.

"They believe he won't be blinded by the amazing goings on here and he will continue to look at operations through a critical eye."

Sam shook her head. "Well goodie for them, when it comes back to bite them in the ass just remember that I told you so. The man might not be blinded by the amazing goings on here but he is blinded by his hatred of Colonel Hughes."

Rowen sighed. "As of right now, you have orders from the President to reassemble SG-1. The operation that forced them to be seperated wasn't sanctioned by the IOA and Agent Albrecht has been reprimanded for his behavior. Good day, General." She turned and strode from the office.

Sam grinned as the door shut behind Rowen. She had the feeling she knew exactly who had sent that information to the President. She picked up the phone and dialed. "Colonel Hughes, gather your team and meet me in the briefing room. No, Colonel, gather your team, I'll put in the call to RBA and have Dr. Kain sent back here. Yes, Colonel, SG-1 is reinstated. It appears that someone is looking out for you. I'll see you in a bit." She smiled and hung up the phone.

Mal stuffed his phone into his pocket with a grin. "It worked, the General wants to see us in the briefing room and she's recalling Oliver from the research base."

Lee fell sideways on the couch with a shout of joy. "Yes! I won't have to endure any more boring lectures about dialects!"

Van chuckled. "I can give you one now and then for old time's sake if you want."

She sat up. "Hell no!"

Mal grabbed his jacket. "Let's go."

"Right behind you," Lee called. "We'll follow you anywhere, sir."

Mal waved as he climbed into his pickup. Lee slipped behind the wheel of her car and Van got in on the passenger side. They drove back to the base from her house, parked and went straight to the briefing room. They found the General and Oliver waiting for them.

"It's good to see you, SG-1," Sam said as they took seats around the table. "As of now, you are a team again. It would seem you have an advocate out there somewhere."

"We do?" Mal asked.

"Yes, someone got their hands on a piece of writing your brother did that proves he set you up so he could order that SG-1 be separated and they sent that proof to the President."

Mal shot Lee a look and a frown. "The President?"

"Yes and he was quite put out about it and ordered Rowen Magee here to let me know that SG-1 should be reinstated immediately."

Van grinned. "Don't know who it is but I thank them for their support. I'd hug them if I could."

Sam chuckled. "Take the rest of the weekend off, your first mission back will be on Monday."

Mal rose, stopped and frowned at her. "Uh, General, what about my replacement team?"

"I'll handle it, don't worry." She smiled at Lee. "It would appear there is a vacancy on SG-13, I think Major Fischer would fit in nicely there."

Mal chuckled. "I agree."

"I think Dr. Collins would be better suited to the lab, she can replace Dr. Walsh."

"At least in the lab she won't put anyone in mortal danger if she translates something incorrectly. Perhaps she can learn a thing or two from Dr. Jackson," he told her with a grin.

"We can only hope, on both counts. I'll find someplace for Dr. Menken too. You're dismissed." She said it with a smile. "It's good to have you back, SG-1." She stood and left the briefing room.

Lee turned to Van and held her arms wide. "Okay, I'm ready for that thank you hug now."

He laughed and hugged her. "You did an excellent job."

Mal frowned at her. "You took a big chance sending it to the President, what if he dismissed it as some crackpot?"

They all stood and wandered out of the briefing room.

She shook her head. "He wouldn't."

"How do you know that?"

She grinned at him. "My dad is a legal aid for the President. I may have slipped him the file and told him I had it on good authority that the President would be very interested in it but I couldn't give it to him myself because it was above my clearance and I couldn't say how I got it."

"Lee, that was a huge risk!"

She shrugged. "My dad wouldn't turn me in and I knew he'd take whatever I said seriously and show it to the President. Look, the President is the highest authority over the SGC, it made sense."

"She's right, Mal. Our dad would never rat her out."

Mal rubbed a hand over his face. "All right, at least it worked out in the end."

"Malachy!" Elias shouted.

Mal groaned. "Well, almost." He turned to stare down the corridor as Elias stalked toward them.

"I know you had something to do with this!" Elias shouted.

"To do with what exactly?"

"You broke into my apartment and stole my things!"

"Please, do explain how I did that?"

"I don't know but I'll find out! I won't let you get away with this! You can't keep skirting around the rules as if they don't apply to you!" Elias poked him in the chest.

Lee's hand shot out, her fingers wrapped around the offending digit, bent it back, and effectively brought Elias to his knees. "Touch him again, touch any of us, and I swear I will end you."

"Captain, release him," Mal ordered.

She sent Elias a last warning look before she let go of his finger and stepped back.

"Elias, I don't care what it is you believe I've done, you're wrong. I am not here to make you look bad or offend you in any way, I'm here to do my job. I'm here to lead SG-1 and to protect Earth from whatever the hell is out there. So piss off and stay out of my way." He spun away from Elias and walked away.

Lee glared at Elias before she followed Mal.

Van sent him a cheery grin and a little wave and began singing Can't Keep Me Down by No Turning Back just loud enough for Elias to hear as he walked away.

Oliver scurried past Elias with a grin and caught up to Van. "Isn't that a heavy metal band?"

"Indeed it is."

"Doesn't seem like your style."

Van shrugged. "I don't have a style, I listen to whatever speaks to me. Sometimes it's classical, sometimes metal." He looked at Oliver. "I could have gone with Shake it Off by Taylor Swift, but that didn't seem as appropriate."

Oliver burst out laughing. "I think I'm going to enjoy working with you."

"Same."

"Come on you two, catch up, we're going to go out for pizza to celebrate!" Lee called.

"Pizza, again? How about tacos!" Van called back.

"Fine, tacos, who cares, let's go!"

"We're coming!" Van yelled before he began humming The Boys are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy.

Oliver shook his head. "I feel like I'm going to learn a lot of new songs while working with you."

"Yup." Van grinned at him as they stepped onto the elevator with Lee and Mal.
