Prologue

Shadowfyre emerged from the rolling shadows, her massive form pivoting gracefully despite her considerable size. The violet hues of her scales shimmered with an otherworldly iridescence as she positioned herself, poised and expectant. Though she stood as a titan among lesser creatures, her gaze was fixed skyward, anticipating the arrival of one even more colossal than herself.

As if in response to her silent summons, the clouds above parted. From this celestial fissure descended a dragon of truly legendary proportions. His immense bulk seemed to displace the very air around him as he alighted before Shadowfyre.

"This matter had best be of significant import," he rumbled, his voice resonating with barely contained power as his eyes swept over Shadowfyre's form. "You are well aware of the ire Spiderman shall express should I fail to attend him."

Shadowfyre's talons curled into the earth beneath her, her composure wavering for but a moment. "It is indeed of great consequence, Balerion. I implore you to trust my judgment," she declared, her tail lashing with barely suppressed agitation. "What of Spider? Would you willingly subject our daughter to suffering?"

Balerion's massive head swayed in negation, a flicker of concern passing through his ancient eyes. "Certainly not, my dear Shadowfyre," he responded, his tone softening marginally. "However, you must understand the city's reliance upon my presence."

Their exchange hung in the air, laden with unspoken tensions and the weight of responsibilities both seen and unseen.

Shadowfyre ducked her head, her tail lashing with renewed vigor. "Very well," she conceded, her voice tinged with resignation. "You should be aware that our offspring's path has already been predetermined. She is destined to align herself with young Miles Morales and guide him true."

As she spoke, Shadowfyre's jewel-like eyes seemed to unfocus, as if gazing upon a scene invisible to others—a vision of a dark-skinned youth, perhaps the Miles of whom she spoke.

Balerion's response came swiftly, his forked tongue flicking out as he replied, "I am well apprised of this, my dear. My duties within the Spider Society keep me informed of such matters." His tone softened slightly as he added, "I have every confidence in her success."

Without further ado, and seemingly eager to conclude their exchange, Balerion turned. He took several paces before launching his massive form skyward, his wings creating great gusts as he ascended into the clouds above.

Shadowfyre remained earthbound, a complex array of emotions playing across her draconic features. Her gaze fell upon a shimmering image that had materialized beside her—a vision of their daughter alongside Miles. A warmth suffused her voice as she murmured, "Together, you shall accomplish great feats, my dears. Of this, I am certain."
