Crown of Distrust

A/N: I am sorry. I am so sorry.

-RavensPOV-

"Tons and tons of tofu!" Garfield yelled with his arms in the air.

"Beastboy!" Cyborg called disgustedly surprised. Garfield's arms fell to his sides and his ears perked up. "Yeah, dude?" He turned towards Victor with a sly smirk.

"Tofu don't even exist anymore." He answered quickly. "Loads and loads of Meat! That's what in the menu today."

Garfield crossed his arms. "No way dude, it's all about tofu. I'm bringing back tofu fighter animal man."

I smiled and laughed quietly while watching them bicker. They had no need to fight, absolutely none, Victors right. Making tofu is a thing of the past. They only fight like this to bask in the past, to remember what glory feels like, to be kids. Like any adult normally does.

"Surrounded by idiots." I said with one hand on my forehead and the other on my growing tummy.

"I'm your idiot." Garfield wiggled his ears and eyebrows with a smile, his usual response. Victor slapped the back of his head. I laughed again, and the baby kicked at my hand.

"Guys! The baby is kicking, come feel."

Their eyes widen and they lay their hands on me. We're all smiling, one of Victors hand is on Beastboys back, only a few more months and the baby will come.

"Have you decided on a name?"

"If it's a girl we'll name her Donna Marie Logan. If it's a boy..."

"...Victor Mark Logan." Garfield cut in, smiled, and looked at Victor. His eye became watery, his smile was meaningful. "Guys..." He began softly.

"Starfires coming." Garfield whispered. She came in through the door and looked at the decorations and other people around. She spotted us and came straight for us, her purple dress flowed behind her.

"Raven, you should be asleep." Was the first thing she said, but I can feel she doesn't necessarily care. I nod and smile.

"The decorations are coming along nicely, good job, Beastboy."

"Thank you, ruler Starfire." He slightly bowed. She laughs nicely, like she's our friend. "No need for that. Just Starfire. Like always."

Victor was eyeing her. His distrust grew. "Starfire," he laid a hand on her shoulder. "It's great to see you in such spirits."

She smiles. "It my daughters birthday! Being six years old is very big task."

I flinched as a pain threatened my stomach. "Aak." I grasped hold of Garfield's shoulder who immediately became worried, as did Victor.

"I think...it's false..labor...don't be worried." I mumbled through the pain.

Victor nodded. "That happens. But still, I'll check you out every couple hours to make sure everythings okay."

We nodded. Garfield reluctantly agreed. I smiled. "Today is Mar'i day. Don't be worried, have fun. You are the only one who can."

Starfire assured Garfield that all will be well. As soon as Victor and I were out of ear shot I couldn't help but ask him. "Do you trust her?"

He didn't respond.

-BeastBoysPOV-

Hours later, Raven was doing fine. It was just false labor, extremely early false labor, but hopefully all is well. Hopefully.

As Raven instructed I was to have a good time and not to worry. I danced with Mar'i as a monkey and as different animals, even turned into a fish and danced in the pond with her.

I pecked at my parrot wing, taking out a bug that had been magically placed between my feathers, and watched Strafire hold the crown of meat.

"And as traditional Tameranean traditions call, Mar'i Grayson, here is the crown of meat!" Starfire, smiling, lays the crown of meat of Mar'i. She laughed and hugged Starfire. "Thank you, mommy!"

"Too close, too close." I squawked and flew into the air.

After that Starfire gave a very long speech about how wonderful Mar'i is, but she only scratched the surface.

I saw Damian at the party, he drank some punch, which was really grape juice. He and Mar'i ate from the pile of meat they had laid out. No tofu.

After the party Mar'i gave me the crown of meat. "It stinks." That's all she said before she flew off. I went to see my wife and best friend, Raven was asleep when I got there, Cyborg sat in a chair reading.

"Cy' Whatcha reading?" I whispered.

"Green eggs and Ham. I read it till she fell asleep." He smelled the air. "What's that smell?"

"The crown of meat."

He laughs. "I remember that. We all had to wear it."

"Rae was the first."

"Yeah and we had that whole deal with Trigon."

I shuddered but then smiled. "Dick was the one to rescue her, to bring her back, remember?"

"Hm." He agreed.

I cleared my throat and looked at the ground. "Can Trigons influence be passed down to our kid?"

He looked up to me, stayed like that a for a long while until he shook his head. "Nah, couldn't. Raven locked him away. He can't hurt anyone any more."

"I can still worry."

"It's a waste of time, Tofu boy."

"Helps keep me sane, dragon eye."

Cyborg sighs. "It's not a dragons eye! It doesn't even look like a dragon."

We laugh under our breath, still careful not to wake Raven. "She's a deep sleeper." I shivered. "Stars coming."

"Man, how can you always know that?"

"I'm part animal. I can sense danger." I smirked just as Star walked in. "Hey Starfire, Rae's asleep."

"Why are you all in here?" She whispered and sat at the foot of Ravens bed.

"Keeping an eye on things." He put emphasis on eye and laughed lightly.

"Same." I agreed with Cyborg with a slight chuckle.

She nods, even gave us a smile. She was gonna stay the night with Raven too. If Dick were here it'd be a titan sleep over. We all carried small conversations, Starfire was almost acting like Starfire again, but as last months conversation held, we would never trust her again. That will always ring true.

I handed her the crown of meat saying Mar'i gave it to me to eat but it stinks too much and my animal senses couldnt get over that fact, she agreed and left the room to dispose of it.

"Maybe she's finally relaxing, and realizing things she hadn't before, maybe she's changing." Cyborg looked at the door hopeful.

"You and I both know that it will never happen. She's too far gone."

"I don't like the plan Batman has." He rubbed the back of his neck.

I raised my eyebrow. "You don't have to call him Batman, I mean, we all know who he is."

"Well he still does that Batman voice whenever he wears the costume."

"He's weird." My eyes shifted to the door, then to Raven, then back to Cyborg. "Today, Starfire said something unusual."

Cy' tilted his head.

"When she was giving Mari's speech, she called her Mar'i, Mar'i Grayson."

He barley seemed surprised, he even smiled a little. "Whoa."

"I just don't trust her." I faced palmed while shaking my head with a frustrated sigh.

-CyborgPOV-

A long painful scream woke me from my slumber in the hall. It came from Ravens room.

There was blood on the sheets, blood between her legs.

"Victor." Her voice, tight and scratchy from pain and dehydration, called me. Her bloody hands held her stomach. "Help me."

"Spread'em. Let me have a look." I sat in front of her. "Raven, you're already crowning. It's happening. The baby's head is showing. I need you to breathe evenly, I'll get help. Don't push unless absolutely necessary. I'll be right back."

I ran to the door and yelled for Starfire, who was already on her way, she had Victoria with her. Victoria was carrying clean towels.

"I heard her screaming. I got this-" Starfire nods to Victoria. "-to help."

I nod. I couldn't care less if she couldn't address Victoria as a human being, my friend was in labor and about to birth a new hybrid.
