HEADCANNON: #74, Christmas in the Air

MIA STILINSKI WAS SURROUNDED by wrapping paper and Christmas gifts.  She was determined to keep the Christmas spirit alive in the Stilinski house.  As much as she loved her father and brother, the two were never as into the holiday as Mia.

While Stiles and her dad would always enjoy spending the holiday as a family, Mia and their mother would spend the season drinking hot chocolate and decorating the house to their heart's content.

Decorating the Stilinski house became Mia's tradition with her mother.  The boys would decorate outside, putting up the reindeer and candy canes on the front lawn as the girls decorated the house with lights and ornaments.

It was Christmas Eve Eve, as Mia liked to call it, but to the rest of the world, it was simply December twenty third.  She was in the basement of her house as her twin and father were upstairs watching a movie, blissfully unaware that Mia was wrapping their gifts.

The brunette had made some extra cash by babysitting her neighbor's kids, who reminded her of Stiles and Scott.  After babysitting the two kids a few times, Mia had made enough money to surprise her father, brother and friends with Christmas presents.

She had gotten Stiles a Lego X-Wing, which would add onto their ever growing collection of Star Wars Legos.  Last year, she had saved up to get him a Y-Wing, and hopefully she could get him a B-Wing next year.

While she had been shopping, Mia ran across a simple gift for her father, a new coffee mug that said "World's Best Dad."  She had been sure to customize it so that it had a picture of their family on it.

Mia placed the coffee mug into a small cardboard box and wrapped it before placing a label on the gift, addressing it to dad, from Mia.

She turned to her left and saw the gift she had bought for Isaac, one of her best friends.  Her gift to him was a blue scarf, which would compliment his eyes and keep him warm.

After wrapping that, she pushed some of the other presents to the side in order to find Scott's gift, which was hidden beneath some extra wrapping paper.  It was probably the most valuable gift in the room.

No, the gift wasn't worth a lot of money, but it meant the world to Mia.

She had spent weeks putting the gift together.  It was a scrapbook filled with pictures of their friendship, and it had been started by her mother when they were children.

Each page of the book had pictures of the Stilinski twins and Scott from their first day of pre school until Scott's birthday, which had been a few months prior.  Mia had taken the time to add context to each photograph in order to ensure it would be perfect.

She carefully wrapped the scrapbook before adding a label to the gift.

To Scooter, love Mia.

"Dad, I'm going over to Scott's!" Mia shouted up the stairs.  Her hand was wrapped around Scott's gift as she kept her eyes glued on the kitchen.  "Stiles, if you're coming, let's go!"

There was a crash in the kitchen as Stiles stumbled through in hopes of getting to his gift, which was on the table.

"Pick up the plate, Stiles!"

She listened to her brother swear as he finally exited the kitchen, his present in hand.

"What are you waiting for?"

"You." Mia rolled her eyes at her twin, who stuck his tongue out at her.  "You can drive."

The twins walked out of their house and into their Jeep, ready to visit their best friend for their annual Christmas Eve tradition.  After ten minutes of driving, they arrived at their best friend's house.

"What did you get him?" Stiles asked as he turned off the car.

"You'll see when Scooter finds out," Mia teased with a smile.  "I don't want to ruin the surprise."

Stiles groaned at his sister's decision.  All he wanted to know was what she had hidden beneath the silver wrapping paper.  He knew that Mia had spent a lot of time on their best friend's gift.

"You suck."

"Nope." Mia stuck her tongue out at her twin.

Stiles rolled his eyes as he opened the car door.  He watched Mia do the same before exiting the vehicle and walking around the car.  After taking his gift from his twin's hands, the two teens walked up toward their best friend's house.

Mia rang the doorbell with her free hand.  She swayed back and forth, shifting her weight from the balls of her feet to her heels.  After a few seconds, the front door swung open, revealing the friendly face of Melissa McCall.

"Merry Christmas Eve," Melissa greeted with a smile.

Mia and Stiles smiled at their best friend's mother, who had practically become their mother.  The two teens entered the McCall house before closing the door behind them.

"Merry Christmas Eve!" Mia replied in a cheery voice.

"Merry Christmas," Stiles chimed in.

"Mom?  Who's at the door?" Scott's voice called from upstairs.  Mia glanced up the stairs, only to see the messy haired boy standing there.  "Hey!"

"Hey Scooter," Mia called out with a wide smile.  "Merry Christmas!"

Scott rushed down the stairs before pulling his best friends into a bear hug.

"Merry Christmas!"

The three teens sat down in a circle with their gifts on their laps.  They were practically recreating a picture Melissa had taken of them five years prior, especially since Mia had a silver bow on her head, courtesy of the boys.

All of the teens placed their gifts in the center of their circle.

"Scott opens his gifts first," Mia said with a wide smile.

"Nope," Scott protested, "you two first."

Stiles sighed as he looked between his twin and best friend.  He didn't understand how they didn't realize that they liked each other.  It was obvious.

He knew that Scott had liked Mia for at least the past year, and although his twin didn't know it, she liked Scott too.  There was no way Mia didn't like him, especially since she couldn't keep her eyes off of their best friend.  He noticed how she blushed every time Scott looked at her, and was shocked that they hadn't realized it yet.

They were so oblivious.

"How about Stiles opens his first?" Stiles mused.  He reached for the gift Scott had given him, which was wrapped in gold wrapping paper.

Mia and Scott watched as Stiles ripped open the paper, revealing a few CDs.

"I know it's not much, but I thought you could keep them in Roscoe." Scott smiled sheepishly.

"Dude this is great!" Stiles gushed as he flipped through the CDs.  "Foo Fighters, The Killers, Green Day, Arctic Monkeys."

Stiles smiled at his best friend before looking at the last CD.

"And Coldplay?  Scott, I hope you know that this beats whatever Mia got me for Christmas."

"I'll return your gift Sti," Mia teased, only to have her twin roll his eyes.

"Mia, open yours," Scott encouraged with a smile.  He watched as the brunette picked up her gift, which was wrapped in red wrapping paper in order to distinguish it from Stiles'.

Mia tore the wrapping paper off of the small package, revealing a blue felt box.  She opened the box and her eyes widened at its contents.

Inside the box was a silver bracelet, which had her name engraved on it.

"Scott, this is gorgeous!"

"I wanted to get you something you would love." Scott's cheeks flushed as he watched Mia take the bracelet out of the box.

"Could you clasp it for me?" Mia asked as she placed the bracelet around her wrist.

Scott practically jumped at the chance to help Mia, and carefully clasped her bracelet for her.

"Thanks Scooter."

Stiles rolled his eyes at his friend and sister, who were both blushing.

"Scott, open my gift," Stiles spoke up.

Scott opened the smaller of his two gifts, which was a coffee mug with "future vet" written across the side of it.

"Dude," Scott chuckled.

"I never said I was good at gifts."

"It's great."

"Hate to cut the bromance short, but open mine Scooter," Mia interjected with a teasing smile.

Scott picked up the larger gift, which was wrapped in silver wrapping paper and had a small label on the side.

To Scooter, Love Mia

"Aww Mia, you love me," Scott teased, failing to keep his cheeks from turning pink.

"Of course Scooter," Mia mumbled.  "Now open it!"

Stiles and Mia watched in anticipation as Scott carefully removed the wrapping paper from the gift, revealing a brown leather book.

"What is it?"

"Open it," Mia instructed, which the McCall boy did instantly.

The pages of the book were covered in photographs from their childhood, and each photo had something written beside it in Mia's bubbly handwriting.  There were stickers, movie tickets and even old carnival tickets stuck to each page as they corresponded with different memories.

"Mia," Scott breathed, "this is beautiful."

Mia's cheeks flushed at her best friend's words, and she was a bit confused as to why her stomach filled with butterflies at his words, but she didn't mind the sensation.

"My mom started it when we were kids, and I've been adding to it for the past few years," Mia confessed.  "I hope you like it."

"Mia, this is perfect."

The three teens smiled at each other as they looked at their gifts.  They were thankful that sophomore year had been going well so far, and that even though it hadn't been the most exciting year, they had each other.
