STARDUST challenge 6 (Guarding a Hazard)

I laid in my bed and turned off my halo so that I could fall asleep.

I couldn't sleep though. I sighed and rolled over to my side and turned my halo back on. I then sat up and looked around my room. I then reached for my TV remote that laid on the arm of my couch. I turned my TV on and saw Peter asleep. I sighed, its good he can sleep.

Peter was my charge. I was his guardian angel... and he was the sweetest thirteen-year-old boy ever... what's the harm in that?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"Honey!" Peter's mom called out to Peter. "Where are you going?"

"I'm going to the skatepark with some friends," Peter said as he tightened his helmet around his head. I stood next to Peter, invisible.

"Okay, but be careful," Peter's mom told him.

"Okay, I promise... Love you, bye!" Peter called as he ran toward the door. I ran out with him and saw Peter's friends outside. They all had skateboards and helmets and kneepads and so on... I then looked at Peter, who was rather excited.

They then started skating to the skatepark. I floated swiftly along. Once we arrived at looked at the other guardian angels who were guarding their charges.

"Did any of you bring a first-aid kit?" I asked. They all looked at me and shook their head. I nodded slowly and watched as Peter started skateboarding.

"Have any of you guys tried that new skateboard move? I think it was called the double jump slide..." One of Peter's friends said.

"No," They all said in unison.

"Me neither," Peter's friend said. "I think I'm really nervous to try that move."

They all looked at each other, wondering who was going to try the move—

"I'll do it!" Peter said as he raised his hand.

"No, no—" I whispered in Peter's ear.

"Yeah, if the trick works, then we can do it, but if I get hurt... then that means we can't, easy-peezy," Peter said.

"No!" I tried again, giving Peter another thought in his head, trying to convince him not to try the trick.

He didn't listen to me and put his skateboard on the ground and faced the hollow ramps at the skatepark. I put my head in my hands as I stood next to him. Peter didn't even look scared. I checked his thoughts...

I don't want them to get hurt doing this move... so I'll take the pain for them if I fall. What could happen?  Peter's mind asked.

"You're way to nice, you know that?" I murmured to myself. I then adjusted my halo over my head and readied myself for what was about to happen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What happened?" Peter's mom asked as me and Peter limped inside the house. Of course, Peter had a couple bruises, while I had a gash in my leg. No one knows guardian angels get hurt more... but they do. I shuddered.

"I fell trying to do some new trick or something... I'm okay though. It didn't hurt as bad as I thought," Peter said.

I wanted to strangle him.

I took a deep breath and walked with him to the cupboard to grab the first aid kit. I took my halo off my head and saw that it cracked, and the light was flickering. I guess I have to get a new halo. I sighed and put my halo back above my head.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later that night, Peter fell asleep. I went back to HH. Hotel Heaven. I then put my broken halo in the trash and grabbed a new one from my closet and put it above my head. I then turned the light off and collapsed on my bed hoping tomorrow would be a safer day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Good morning guardian angels! It's time to wake up and protect your charge. Have a fantastic, heavenly day!" I heard a very cheery voice come on my radio. I groaned and sat up in my bed. I turned my halo light on and went back to earth, where Peter was.

"I'm going to the skatepark, love you, bye mom!" Peter called as he rushed out of the house. I blinked and ran out after him. We arrived at the skatepark. Peter was then staring at something. Not something. Someone.

It was a girl. The only girl at the skatepark to be exact. I looked at Peter and rolled my eyes as I smiled.

Peter then hopped on his skateboard and started doing tricks. As he did, he kept glancing at her, trying to show off. I facepalmed myself. I then looked at the girl's guardian angel who stood right next to her charge. Her charge looked to be about Peter's age. I then saw the girl was looking at him as he did his tricks. I rolled my eyes again and whispered in Peter's ear.

"Take a brake."

Peter then stopped at the top of the ramp and looked at the girl. The girl nodded at Peter and put her helmet on and grabbed her skateboard.

She then did a Double Jump Slide.

Peter gaped at her as she landed on the other side perfectly. She then took her helmet off and flicked her hair.

"How did she do that?" Peter whispered to himself. I checked Peter's thoughts.

She's amazing... His thoughts read.

I started laughing and rolled Peter's skateboard toward me, getting Peter's attention. Peter then grabbed his skateboard and left.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Two years later... a 15 yr. old Peter...

"I need books on how to be happier," I said as I stood at the library. The angel at the front desk looked at me and snapped her fingers. Two books appeared. "Thank you," I said as I went back to HH. I went in my room and threw my halo at my wall, making it break in half. It was already cracked. I picked up the broken pieces and put them in my closet which had thirty-seven broken halo's... well, now thirty-eight.

I looked at the books I purchased. A key to a heavenly life, and How to deal with a Hellion.

I approve.

I grabbed a new halo and turned the brightness on high and started reading my book. My halo was a very good reading light. And I wasn't reading because these books because Peter was a bad kid... it's because he's a self-sacrificial crazy—

I took a deep breath as I remembered what he told that girl at the skateboard park. Yes, they are dating now... and he said that he would catch a bullet for her.

Can someone please think of the guardian angel for peat sakes—

I grabbed my halo and threw it at the wall.

It broke.

I sighed and grabbed another one.

I'm running out of halos.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The next day...

Peter was sitting in his room doing homework. I checked his thoughts...

I wonder if I would ever have to save someone from being hit by a train... I would save them... right?

My eye twitched.

He literally thinks of these things.

I'm done.

I went back to Heaven and took a cloud cab to Starville. I pulled out a gold coin from my pocket and bought a star and blew it towards earth.

I then stood back next to Peter.

"Look up at your window," I whispered to him, giving him the urge to look at his window. He looked up at the window and saw a star. A shooting star. The star I blew.

"Now, wish to see your guardian angel," I whispered. I repeated it over... and over and over...

"I wish... to see my guardian angel," Peter said out loud.

"Yes!" I yelled.

Peter whipped his head back and looked at me. He blinked and then rubbed his eyes and then stared at me. "You..."

"Sup kid, I'm your guardian angel," I said casually as if I've rehearsed this before.

"Wha..."

"Now, we need to talk about your stupid jump off a bridge for someone issue."

The End.
