Chapter 5 | Stained Pain
😂
I dragged Leon to a unused room. Slightly panting. "Leon, I thought you said that it's a secret!" I yelled at him.
"I'm sorry, I tend the speak what's on my mind. Well, that's what my brother say." I got a bit confused at the last part, he has a brother?
I shoved it off for now. "Anyways, that force field I used earily. And other people saw." I felt my world crumbling around me. I can't let anyone know I have powers!
"Don't worry, that force field was pretty weak. Meaning it's harder to see. Your powers must be awakening." He looked down at my necklace. Smiling. "And I think I know why."
"I'm glad no one saw." Phew. I then looked down at my necklace. "But, you think it's my necklace that causes my powers?" I asked excitedly.
He nodded. "Seems so."
Unexpectedly, the floor shook a little. "Did you feel that?" I asked Leon. He seemed to notice as well.
"It may be another phantom." He scanned the hallway of anyone else. "Lets go, before anyone gets-" He got interrupted by the stomping. This time, we both fell to the ground.
We both stood ourselves up. "Lets get this monster." I said. My legs trembled by the thought of going against the monster. But I slowly pulled through.
Leon ran, my mouth dropped how fast he was. But I tried my best to ignore it and catch up. We both ran back to the cafeteria, it was cleared out. "No one's here." Leon commented. He turned his head to me. "Let's split up, looking for the monster. Here." He summons the cloth, hoodie, and mask. Then hands me the set. We quickly put it on and ran our separate ways.
It was a bit harder to see because of the hoodie, but I managed. I then ran to a large window, it was a phantom about to attack the innocent students. They looked frightened. I turned horrified just looking at the ceature. No one was here to calm me down, I was on my own. My body trembled in fear. As I was shaking, the dark ceature hit three students and sent them flying. My eyes widen, my quivering grew slightly. I barely moved myself. Until I felt someone push me out the window.
I looked back, but couldn't get to see them. But before I knew it, I was falling. I looked down at the ground in fear, I closed my eyes as I screamed. Loudly. I landed on my arms, which hurt a lot. The rest of my body fell to the ground. "Ouch...." I whined. My arms felt like they were burning, despite there being no fire around.
I looked up at the monster, who had already spotted me. He swipped his hand straight at me. But then, my shield appeared in front of me. I quickly grabbed onto the handle as I embraced myself for its attack. The dark ceature encountered the shield with all its force. I held off as much as I could, but my arms was still weak by the fall. My feet slowly being pushed back. Without warning, the monster swiped me with its other hand. My shield disappeared as I flew back. Landing on the ground, bruises were all over my legs and arms. My black hoodie fell off, but my mask still on.
"What am I going to tell Ana and them now?" I thought. "I was never fully prepared for battle alone." I looked up at the beast, he raised his hand again, getting ready to attack.
Until, a large wave of flames charged at the monster. The beast saw and quickly transformed himself into his human form, dodging the attack. I could barely stand up, I looked down at my legs and they had scratch marks.
Leon ran toward me and helped me up. "Looking at those injuries I probably shouldn't ask if your alright." He smiled a little. We both looked back at the big phantom.
"I'll be sending you to your death!" The monster claimed. He jumped toward us, Leon stood in front of me and blocked the encounter.
"Stay here and let's your bruises heal. I'll take care of him." He looked at the monster in a enraged expression. They both clashed at each other. Leon pushed the monster away from me. Giving me time catch my breath. To my surprise, the phantom was just as fast as Leon.
The monster tried to kick Leon on the head, he dodged and grabbed his leg. And threw him to the ground. He then jumped a couple feet back to catch his breath. The phantom did the same. But he then fell to his knees, he seemed tried out. Leon was tried as well, he fell to the ground.
I was slowly regaining my strength back. The phantom was trying to stand back up to attack him again, I had to do something. I stood up sloppily. And walked to the creature's side. He looked at me with a angry expression. Looking like he was going to explode.
Despite his furious look, I held out my hand for him to stand up. "Lets not fight, and talk this out." I smiled. The slime was slowly going away. My plan was working!
He slightly calmed down, facing his face to the ground. Without warning, he threw his arm toward me, aiming the slime into my nearby hand. It was too close for me to dodge, my eyes widen in fright.
Leon ran toward me. "Move out the way!" He screamed. Pushing me out the way before the slime got on me. We both fell to the ground. Leon's cape covered our bodies, our hoodies fell off our head.
The same way he looked at the monster before, was the same way he looked at me. Infuriated. But he didn't have time to speak. The phantom came and stood in front of us. The slime transformed into a large hammer. Leon and I pulled on my hoodie, I wanted all this to be a dream.
I shut my eyes tight. Leon didn't let go of me, he was focused on the large weapon.
Out of the blue, a young adult stood in front of us. Katie. She had her arms out wide. "I won't let you hurt them!" She yelled fiercely. The monster grinned happily and tried to hit the teacher with the hammer. She didn't move at all.
I quickly stood next to her as I summoned my force field again. Surround us both. She held onto my arm tightly, I could feel her shaking. "Thank you, ever so much." She said. I looked at her and smiled.
"Your welcome Kat- I mean miss. Always scream if you need help." Oh gosh, that didn't come out the way I wanted. Katie was a bit confused, but nodded.
I looked through the force field to see Leon attacking the orb inside. I let the force field down as I ran to Leon. Katie looked at both of us, bowing politely. "Thank you two, I don't know what I would do without you." She said again. Waving, Katie then walked away with a smile on her face.
Leon looked back at me. "What were you doing?" He asked me in a angry tone. His eyes focused on me.
"What do you mean?"
"You tried to help the monster! We're supposed to stop them!" He screamed. Stomping at the floor.
My blood pressure rised, my eyes turned into a glare. "Not everything has to be fixed in violence!" I roared back.
"Who's side are you on? I'll let you think of that for awhile." He walked away. Then just dissapeared.
I clenched my fist tightly. I took a deep breath and loosen up. Being angry wasn't going to solve anything, but I can't help this strong emotion. "I need to stay calm." I said to myself. I quickly left the area and took off the clothes.
~~~
School was over after a couple hours later. The sun was settingly itself back to sleep in the horizon. When I got to the usual cafe. Ana ran up to me, she looked worried. "What's with all those buries marks on you?" She pointed to my arm and legs. I forgot.
Shit.
I covered my arms behind my back, my leg behind the other. "Nothing. I would rather not talk about it." A couple people started getting mad at Ana. She still looked a bit worried, Ana was about to talk until some other customers started to call her over.
"Sorry Mari, I'll be right back." She quickly ran to the other costomers. I sighed as I walked past the small bush, and across the room. Then behind the counter. I started cooking sweets and coffee.
While I was cutting oranges. My mind kept on thinking of the recent battle.
"What a fool I must have been." I whispered to myself. My mind kept on replaying the part were I fell, and when Leon yelled at me. I zoned out a little and almost cut my finger. I pulled back my hand, breathing slightly faster then normal.
I dropped the knife to the ground. I then heard footsteps come walking in here. "Marissa, are you ok?" Liam asked, walking toward me. I nodded. Crossing my arms in front of my twisted stomach.
"I think I'll start making sweets. You can go wash dishes." He guestered me to the door. Without saying anything, I left.
While washing the dishes, Ana suddenly walked in. "May I talk to you?" I nodded. She took a nearby chair and placed it under her before she sat. She took a deep breath and started to speak. "I think I was saved, but it wasn't from something ordinary." I titled my head in confusion.
"I was saved by these people in black clothing, I couldn't see there faces though. There was also civilians watching me. So I know it must have been something big. To cause such a large crowd." I could feel sweat pouring from my forehead.
"It might be a robbery, or something." I said anything that could come to mind.
"Yeah, maybe I'm just thinking too big." She admitted. "But I can't get one of them out my head. I don't know why." I sweat intensified. My hands started to shake, causing me to almost drop a plate.
"Don't you have customers to take care off?" I said nervously. She almost jumped out her seat.
"Your right, I'll see you later Mari!" Ana waved as she left the room.
I stared at the dishes. Then groaned.
"Why the hell does there need to be so many problems?"
~~~
I was walking to my house, freezing to death. I almost thought it was Antarctica. I rubbed my arms up and down slowly, my teeth chattered together. I looked up at the black sky, little bright dots spattered all over.
There was a sudden jacket around me. I held onto it close, it was very warm. "Wait, who gave this to-" I got cut off by the little girl waving at me.
"Hello lady, my big brother kept glancing at you. And you looked cold, so I gave you his jacket." She smiled. Showing her white yet slightly green teeth. She turned around and pointed to two figures running toward us. "He's over there."
I looked where she was pointing, I saw Leon and a little boy next to him running toward us. "Lisa! Get back here!" Leon called out. Lisa giggled and hid behind me. The big brother stopped his tracks in front of me. Causing me and Leon to look at each other face to face.
Leon's cheeks flushed pink. He waved with a small smile on his face. I didn't notice but I was staring, more then necessary.
The little boy waved his face at me. Which snapped me back to reality. "Hello, miss?" I jumped a little.
"Ah, sorry. Just caught a little off guard." I held onto his jacket tighter.
"Sorry for being rude. Here is my brother and sister, Lisa and Flint." He looked at his siblings. Flint waved shyly. Holding onto Leon's hand.
Leon smiled and sneakily walked toward Lisa. But she ran away, giggling. running to his little brothers' side. Leon stood by my side. "Mind if I walk you home?" His eyes lowered to the ground, fidgeting with his hands. "I need to tell you something." I nodded slowly. Lisa and Flint followed as we started to walk to my house.
It was a quiet walk. Leon's jacket was the only thing keeping me warm from the breeze.
Leon looked at me as his voice became to a low whisper. "I apologize for what happend at the battle. I will admit, not everything has to be solved by violence. Plus, it was only your second time battling so I can't blame you. For now on, I shall practice you to be at your very best on the battle field." I smiled by his apologize. I could tell it was coming from the heart, so I accepted.
"Thank you, for apologizing Leon. I could tell it came from the heart." We both smiled at each other. "So, when is training?"
"We'll start the on Wednesday, two days from now. Sound good?" He asked.
My expression turn quizzical. "But why not tomorrow?"
"Ah, I have to babysit."
