Chapter 15 | Pop Star

Leon and I sat in Liam's coffee shop. Ana was sauntering around and taking people's orders. Leon sips his latte. I place my palms on my cheeks, my legs swinging back and forward. He held the cup up to his mouth. "What's on your mind?" Leon ask.

I place my arms crossed on the table. "I was thinking of this one show on YouTube. Street slug scrapper, or something like that. And fight styles came to mind." I explained. "Finding my own would be pretty cool. What's yours?"

Leon's eyebrows lift. "I never thought of that." He pokes his cheek, thinking before answering. "I guess I do a lot of cool tricks. With fire included." An female adult with a hoodie over her head and some shades saunter behind him. I regard her.

She pokes the boy's shoulder. Lean rotates around to detect her before gasping. They bundle their arms into a tight hug. Then break apart. The adult whips a chair in between us. I was still a little confused, waiting for a explanation. Leon bends toward me. "She's my older sister, Madison."

I observe her. She waves with a grin. "Heyo! I'm guessing your a friend of my little brother?" I nod, a small smile on my face.

"If you don't mind me asking," I said. "Why are you wearing glasses and a hoodie?"

"To be honest, I thought you would know. I'm a Pop star." I blink. I'd never heard of her before. She moves her hoodie around her head. "That must mean my disguise is working." She said confidently.

Ana strolls toward us and bends down with us. "You're Madison, correct?"

She sighs. "I take it back." Leon chuckles. Placing his hand in front of his mouth.

"These two are Marissa and Ana. Great friends of mine." Leon explains. Madison nods. It was hard to see with his hand in the way, but I spot a little smirk on his face. That's when I realized I was staring longer than necessary. "I know I'm handsome, but you don't have to stare." He teases.

I didn't miss a beat. "Don't flatter yourself."

Madison examines us. A little ring came from her phone. She pulls it out of her back pocket and look at it. If I was honest, I was a little curious. Madison then puts it away. "I have a concert today. Since your friends of my little brother, you two can come backstage with us. But we have to hurry." We nod. Ana was delighted, her eyes highly dilated.

Ana points to the counter, where Liam was. "I'll go ask my dad." Madison gave a thumbs up. Leon and I, being the noisy people we were, scrutinize Ana and Liam as they babble. Liam looked very reluctant, but he said yes.

All of us stood up and stroll to the door. But Leon and I felt a hand on our shoulder. We look back to spot Liam. He whispers in our ear. "Keep Anna safe, alright?"

Leon gave a thumbs up, additionally a wink. "She'll be fine. Just trust us." A small smile grew on his face as he backs away. Both of us follow Madison and Anna to the exit.

...

...

There was a lot of open room, with people strolling around. Lights up on the ceiling and numerous machines. Madison takes off her hoodie and glasses. "Alrighty guys! We have some guests with us, try to not make me look bad." The workers laugh, the room was lighting up from it's negative atmosphere.

"Hun, don't worry about it." A woman waves.

Madison blows a kiss toward them. She then turns toward us. "I'm going to check around the crew. You guys can look around if you like, just don't mess up anything." She struts away, giving a petite salute. "Ta ta!"

Ana strolls to the machines and examines them. "These are appealing!" She comments. Ana was always into machines and such, so it wasn't a surprise to see her exhilarated. Leon slides his hands in his black jacket pockets. Examining the place.

My eyes turn toward the orange head. He didn't seem excited, but he wasn't depressed either. "Leo, you don't look to impress." I comment.

"I don't mean anything by it. But I've been to the backstage many times. I just about know everyone here." He turns toward another male with bright green hair. Most likely compared with a green highlighter. "Hey Yolo!" The guy look up at him and greets with a grin. With a guy named Yolo, I would definitely want to meet him. He Waves back exuberantly. Leon chuckles and salutes. He then turns back to me. "See?" He was definitely friends with everyone here. I nod. "Come on, I'll show you around!" Leon jogs to the makeup area, with the mirror and makeup on the table.

A girl strolls toward us. "Hello you two! Welcome to the little foundation area." She smiles, turning to Leon. "Would you like another shot Leon?" He quickly waves his hands, shaking his head.

"No thanks. Let's not go through that again." She nods, regarding me.

"How about you?" Before I could answer, Leon places a hand over my mouth.

"She's good." He whispers in my ear while pushing me away. "Letsgoletgoletsgoletsgo-" He pushes me some ladders. He points to the top. "Another guy named Charlie."

Marissa: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Leon: He does not run a chocolate factory.

Marissa: dang it

I climb up the ladders as Leon follows behind me. Once I made it to the top, my eyes spot a man who looked to be in his thirties. He was tweaking on some lights. But it wasn't long till he turns toward us. He greets up with a gentle smile and waves. "Hello! Nice to see you again Leon. Who's the friend?"

He places a hand on my shoulder. "This lil' lady is Marissa. She's a friend of mine."

Charlie saunters toward us and held his hand in front of us. "The names Charlie, Marissa. Here, I'll show you what I do up here." Leon takes his hand back as I follow Charlie to the lights. He moves the one in front of him around. "I do the lighting. Lighting plays a important role in concerts." He explains. I nod. "The light shows where the attention should be, and makes people able to see. You must get a lot of attention with colorful hair like that." It was true, I do. Most people think it's dyed, but for all I know, I never dyed my hair before.

I wrap a string of hair around a finger, frolicking with it. "That's true."

"Yo guys! Let's head out!" Madison calls. I turn toward Leon, who was jogging to the ladders, then turns toward me. Signaling we gotta go.

"I got work to do anyways." Charlie said.

I wave as I follow Leon down the ladders. "See ya!" He gave a curt nod. I land to the ground and follow Leon to Madison and Ana. The two were strolling into a door, leading to a empty hallway. Her high heels and some talking were the only things that we could hear.

We amble to the nearby door on the wall. Madison reaches out for the door knob, but it opens by itself. A woman exiting the room, Madison steps back. The air suddenly felt strained. The woman places her hands on her hips. "Hello Madison. How have you been?"

She smiles. "I'm good, Lilith." Lilith nods, a petite simper over her face.

Lilith inclines near Madison's ear. Whispering; "You better not be slacking off like you usually do." With that, she strolls past us. Ana looks back at Lilith, while Leon examines his older sister. Her chest was pushed out and stood tall. Watching her as she exits the hallway.

Leon pats her sister's back. "Maddy, if she's bothering you, I can—"

She replied with a smile, her fingers gliding through his orange hair. "I'll be in this room for a little while. Wait for me here, okay?" Leon seemed hesitant, but she saunters into the room anyways. The boy exhales a sigh. Ana, easily telling when someone is sorrowful, pats his back. A smile playing on her petite lips.

"Thanks." He said. I kept thinking about what Lilith said, and it was certainly incertitude. I had no doubt in my mind that Leon was worrying about that too.

We then heard four feet's amble toward us. Two walking and the other one jogging. The three of us pivot our heads to the source. Aven greets Ana with a tight hug. "Anna! I missed you!" It was obvious she was ignorant of the atmosphere around us. Anna bundles her as well. Emerald stops behind them, waving at me. Still a little shaken up, I gave a diminutive wave.

The hug breaks as they gaze at each other. "I missed you too!" They started their little chat, babbling too fast for us to understand. For some reason, Ana seemed to light up when Aven's around. Kinda like a flashlight.

Emerald strolls toward me, wearing button white shirt, brown jacket with a dark blue bow over her chest. Her hands laying in front of her, she smiles. "Apologizes for Aven jumping to Anna."

I shake my head. "It's fine."

"Are you into Madison as well?"

I scratch my head. "I recently found out about her." I point to Leon. He was leaning his ear on the door his sister went into. "Madison is Leon's older sister. Are you into the Pop star?"

She shakes her head. "My younger sister does. I don't understand how people are into Pop." She shrugs. She then points to my partner. "You also want to check on your friend." He was clearly invested in finding out what was happening on the other side of the door.

I nod. "Merci, Emerald." I saunter toward the boy, tapping his shoulder. His soul looked like it almost left his body. "Leon? You don't look too well."

He quickly shakes his head. "No, it's fine!"

I knew something was still off. I always hated it when people lie. "Truthfully, are you okay?" I ask.

He was able to pull a smile. His voice sounding a little false. "I'm fine."

I clench my fist, grabbing his wrist. "If your going to lie, might as well do it good." Leon's eyes widen as my hand reaches for the doorknob. Smirking, I added a small comment. "Rules were meant to be broken anyway." I slowly open the door as we bend down to the ground, entering the room. Which seems to be a music studio. Quietly shutting the door behind us, the both of us examine the room. A desk 32 feet in front of us, two people sitting down and wearing headphones. Three voices, Madison as one of them, were singing a song together. When hearing Madison sing, I could understand why she was popular.

I glance over at Leon, his eyebrows raised. Seizing on my wrist tightly. "This song, it's the same one she used to sing me to sleep." He whispers. It was really lovable, and, admittedly, makes me a little jealous.

The song stops, as one of them takes off their headphones. Then stands up. Leon and I placed our hands on each other's mouths. "This is great, Maddy. I just have some tips." Madison nods, looking at him. "Try straining your voice, and talk to established singing like, Lilith."

"I'll keep that in mind. I need to head to the restroom." The last thing we heard was a door opening and shutting. Our hands lower to the ground, scrutinizing the adults.

"She could seriously use some help." One of the singers said. Leon places his hands in front of his mouth, my eyes widen.

"Yeah. I think she's getting worse." Leon clenches his fist and lower eyebrows.

He abruptly stands up, catching the attention of everyone. My hands immediately start shaking. "Breaking news just in: You're an asshole! Thank you for your brilliant portrayal of a self-centered asshole in the movie of my sisters life." Leon shouts. I could see a small flame mustering power in his fist. I claps his hand and sprint out of the studio, briskly slamming the door behind us. My breathing quickens. The heat from his hand vanishes, as Leon calms down.

Standing in front of us was Emerald, who seemed to be waiting on us. We both inspect her. She had a small smile over her face. "How was it?"

"It was fine." I responded with. Emerald nods, strolling toward the exit door.

"Anna and Aven went to the stage." She explains. "Oh, and training will be after the concert. Extra hard." I sigh, hoping I could've skip it today.

"Hey, Mary," He said, I regard him. "Thanks for that. I needed it." I take back my hand from his, thinking that he may feel uncomfortable.

"No prob." I wink. "We're a team, that's what makes us strong." He nods.

"I'll keep that in mind."

...

...

People were cheering and screaming, as Madison and her two backup singers were chanting their song. Anna and Aven jumps up and cheers, as Leon and I screamed, clapped, and jumped. Adults probably thought we were maniacs. Numerous people attempting to sing the lyrics along with the Pop star. The stage was large, with screens left and right. The bass and sound would be thumping through the crowd as if it were our very own hearts beating to the music.

Lilith stood on the side of the stage, next to the red curtains. Examining them from the sidelines. Madison had a humongous grin as she skips around the stage, singing her heart out. Her face became flushed. "I know I should be happy, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little jealous." She whispers.

Purple slime crawls to her leg and coats over her body. Transforming her into a monster known as a Phantom. The Phantom strolls on stage, catching the attention of many. The two singers concluded their voices as they back away. Even the crowd was quiet. Ana, Leon, and Aven's eyes widen. Once Madison perceived the tension, she examines the Phantom. "Lilith!?" She shouts.

"I'm no longer Lilith anymore, I'm a Phantom!" The horde screams as they rush to the the exit. Emerald springs from the top of the stage, doing a cork flip before landing next to us.

Leon and Anna jump out of their skin. "How the hell did you do that!?"

Emerald fixes up her blonde hair. Pulling a string of hair behind her hair. "Years of training with my girlfriend helps."

Madison sprints to the edge of the stage. "Who said you could run!?" The Phantom shouts.

Instinctively, Leon jumps over the railing and in between them. A shield like flame protecting him, the slime vanishes by the touch of the flame. "Hands off my sister!" He commands. Madison glances back to see his younger brother standing in front of the monster.

Aven quickly dashes to her side. "Come on, ma'am. Let's bring you to safety." Reluctantly, she nods. Aven led Madison to the exit.

"Why the hell are you so irritating!" The Phantom shouts.

Leon replied quickly. " If your opinion mattered to me, I would be insulted."

I bounce myself over the rail and hasten next to my partner. The Phantom shoots balls of slime toward us. Leon and I swiftly flip out of the way, jumping closer and closer toward the Phantom. When the balls stopped, Leon and I prance high in the sky. "Haah!" We yell, kicking the Phantom on the head simultaneously. The Phantom falling to the floor, we effortlessly land to the ground. "Nice job!" I said, Leon nods with a thumbs up.

Ana stood next to Emerald. The two quietly watching. "Anna, correct?" She nods. Ana wasn't sure what to start the conversation with. "Marissa talks about you." Emerald smiles. "Don't worry, they were good things." It was as if she could read Ana's mind. The brunette was definitely shocked. "I'm guessing you found out their little secret?"

She nods. "It was surprising when I found it, but I quickly got used to it."

It was silent again, until Emerald broke it. "Marissa's been working hard to be where she is now. She does claim that she'll quit numerous times when training, but she hasn't done so yet."

Ana lifts her head, she was starting to feel a little inspired. "I want to do the same. I want to help as well." She states. Emerald chuckles.

The monster became larger, as she stood back up. Aiming her punches toward our head and legs. We jumped and swiftly ducked, then briskly pulls ourselves up from getting hit. Before I could fall, I briskly regained balance. Right when we were given time to attack, Leon flips on his hands and leaps excessively above the monster. His hands enveloping in flames, but more ferocious than ever. Leon clasped his hands tightly together, creating a immense ball of fire. "Everyone's entitled to act stupid once in awhile, but you really abuse the privilege. Especially if it involves my sister!" He impacts the fireball on the Phantoms head, the blaze surging through her body and breaking the orb.

The slime slithers away, as the orb vanishes. Leon alights on the stage. "Mary... I think I need a nap or somethin'." The boy falls in my arms, I seize on his shoulder. His breathing quickens. He pivots around and faces me, his cheeks were burning hot. Leon almost looked sick. The boy attempted to pull off a smile. "You did.... amazing." He gently placed his head on my shoulder.

"I know. But you did better." He chuckles. I rub his back. "You bring a first aid kit but not a healing potion." He snickers.

"Slipped my mind."

A laughing sound came from the blondie, Ana looks over at Emerald to see her chortling. "Kelly always seems to pick good partners." Ana cocks an eyebrow.

Madison sprints back to the place with Aven behind her. "Leon! Lilith!" She dashes toward her younger brother. Our hug breaks apart as Madison bundles her arms around him. "I was so worried." Leon hugs back.

"Sorry for making you worry." The hug breaks as they gaze at each other. Madison regards Lilith. She was sitting on the floor, her hand on her head.

The singer jogs toward the fallen girl and holds her hand to her. Lilith examines her and tilts her head. "Are you alright?"

After a silent moment, Lilith pushes her hand out of the way. "I'm just fine. You need to worry more about yourself." The woman stood up and saunters past her.

Madison watches her as she strolls away. A petite simper over her lips. "She's just being stubborn, like always. She'll come around again sooner or later."

Emerald chuckles. "I like her."

After sometime, people started coming back. As Madison and her backup singers continued the song. Emerald vanished, as Aven and Ana stayed with the audience. Leon and I sat on top of the concert, sitting on the black rail. The first aid kit next to me, I rub alcohol-free wipes over the injuries on his arm. He does a sharp inhale, sucking air through his teeth. "Can you be a little easier?"

"It's not my fault. Maybe you should watch yourself." I responded plainly.

"Says the one who gets injuries two days in a row." He covers his eyes with his hand. Another sharp inhale.

"Asshole." He exhales a guffaw. I pinch his arm with my open hand.

"Ow! That was on purpose, wasn't it?"

"Maybe."

He crosses his arms. "I'll be keeping that in mind."
