Chapter 11 | Neon Dance!

Psst.... Hey, over here!

If people ask enough questions, I'll possibly make a QnA in the future!
~~~
Sunday.
I tighten the rope around my waist as I glance back at Emerald. The rope was tied to the car wheel, which the lady was sitting on. "So, your telling me to run? With this on?"
"For one hour. Correct."
"Your telling me I gotta do this for a hour!? I'm not sure what you think I am, but I'm pretty sure I'm human."
Emerald pulls out a rope, then shot me a glare. "Did I stutter?" The hair on my neck stood up, I begin sprinting as fast as I could. "Faster!" Emerald commands. "A snail could do laps around you!" I let out a groan as I continue to pull both the tire and Emerald.
Aven stood nexts to the door. "Oh dear."
......
......
Training went on for a hour. My body felt tenuous as I obtain a water bottle from the refrigerator and sat on the chair. Aven was examining a hair barrette with a small crystal on it.
I thought back to the time my mother turned into a Phantom. Then back to the time were I fell from a window in school. My lip begin trembling. "Hey, Aven...."
"Hm?"
"Do you think I'll be able to grow stronger? Will I be able to protect people?" Aven examines my body language. Damp eyes, sweating, and fidgeting.
Aven looks around for something to calm myself. She then looks down at the hair barrette. She hands it to me. "Here." I look at it.
"A hair barrette?"
"This isn't a normal hair barrette." She points to the gem. "The small crystal creates a force field when in danger. If you want them to have protection, it's best you give them this."
I clasp the item before inspecting it. "This is great! There's a dance coming up, and that's a great excuse."
"A dance?" I nod with a big smile.
"Yeah! I'm heading out with my friends tomorrow after school." I look at the clock at the wall. My eyes widen.
"It's already two-o-three!?" I stood up, sprinting to the door. "I promised Ana I'd meet her at two. Tell Emerald I said bye!" Aven chuckles as I dash out of the place.
.....
.....
While in the kitchen with Ana, she seemed to be Day-dreaming or something. I wave my hand in front of her face. "Earth to Anna!" Ana jumps a little. Which made me do the same. But couldn't wipe the smile off her face.
"Their's a Neon Dance coming up and I'm excited! For all the food, music, and you two!" I was flattered by that last comment.
I slowly place vanilla frosting on the cupcake in front of me. I pick up the cupcake and look around for the plate. "Do you know where I placed the plate at?"
Ana looks around the table. After finding the small plate, she turns to me and throws it toward the back of my head. "Here!"
Instinctively, I swiftly rotate my body and claps the cupcake by the bottom. "Geez Ann, don't do that again." I said, placing the cupcake and exiting the kitchen.
When strolling back to the kitchen, Liam follows me. "Ana, do you mind if I speak to Marissa alone?" Ana nods.
"I'll take over cashier!" Ana jogs out. Liam chuckles and looks down at me.
"What's up?" I ask.
"So I heard there's a dance party coming up. And I know how nervous you get." My eyes widen as I jumped out of my skin.
"How'd you know that!?" Liam laughs, he gathers ingredients for a dish. Then signals me to come watch him. I lean over his arm.
"I'm not dense, you've hanged around here enough for me to know your personality. You tend to get a little nervous and think something's gonna go wrong. I wanted to calm you down a bit, plus teach you to a new recipe. Here's how it goes...."
Be does the following while explaining. Liam top with a layer of the raspberry purée. Sprinkle some toasted oats on top, then add one more layer of the whipped cream to fill the glasses. Garnish each with the reserved whole raspberries, sprinkle additional toasted oats on top, and drizzle with honey. Liam and I smile. "Understand?" I nod. Looking at the dessert, it glittered in its beauty.
Ana sticks her head in the door. "Do you mind if I head out early father?" She ask. "Marissa, you gotta come too."
Liam lets out a breath. "I guess I'll close early today." Ana almost burst out of excitment as she grabs my hand and sprints out the coffee house.
.....
.....
I was surrounded by flowers of different colors. Most of them were sparkling in the bright sun. I spot Leon jogging toward us. "Hey girls!" He shouts. I wave at him. Ana held a sketchbook and a pencil while watching him.
Leon jog toward my us, panting heavily. He bent over and place his hands on his knees. "Sorry.... for being... late."
I places his arm around my shoulder. "It's just fine. As long if your here with us."
"You may be wondering why I asked you two to come here." We looked at the brown haired girl. "The Neon Dance is tomorrow, and I'm going to create outfits for everyone!" She exclaims.
"I forgot about the Neon Dance." Leon comments, scratching his head. "But I wasn't planning for anything fancy, I'm sure I can just-" Ana places a finger on his mouth, hushing him.
"No. Your going to look handsome. Just let me do this." I chuckle, Leon carefully took back his arm. Ana turns around and jogs toward the flowers, scrutinizing them.
I whisper to my partner; "She's very serious about these things. It's best to let her have this moment."
Ana begins sketching in her notebook. Leon crosses his arm, examining the brunette. He whispers to me. "Doesn't she look like she's.... glowing?" I examine my friend closely.
"Your right." When Ana examines the countless plants, they shimmer in growth. I looks at her friend, she was giving off the same aroma as Aven. A blooming flower. I pull out the hair barrette from her back pocket.
Leon examines it. "That's not a normal barrette. Where'd you obtain it from?"
"Remember that lady named Emerald? I got it from her little sister. Both really sweet people." I compliment.
"Let me guess, your going to give it to Ana." I nod.
I amble to Ana, which wasn't too far. "Ana, here. I think this may help for inspiration." I deceit. Showing her the flower barrette with a gem in the middle.
Ana gasp in excitement as she held the item in her hand. "It's beautiful!" She bundles her arms around me and hugs me tightly. "Thank you so much." I hug back, a grin growing on my face.
"No prob." She breaks away as she gently places the item in her hair. The crystal glimmers from the sun brilliant luminosity. My posture grew straight as my body relaxes.
"I'll definitely wear this at the dance."
.....
.....
Monday.
I sprint toward Leon with a punch ready, he pivots out of the way. Swiftly, I cease my kinetic movement and rotate myself around, aiming a punch to his face.
Leon jumps back, I was trumping toward him sending him a fury of punches. Once Leon hit a wall, I sent a hard punch toward his visage. He simply steps to the right, causing to hit my hand on the stone wall. The pain stinged in my knuckles as I pulled it back. Looking at it, there were as red as a Apple. I shake it, hoping it would cool off the burn.
Leon laughs. "Are you not very fond of using legs to attack?" He ask.
"I just think using hands are more efficient."
.....
When Leon and I were strolling to the next class, Leon overheard some students speaking. "Did you hear of two people fighting with black clothing?"
"I doubt it. It's just a rumor." The other girl whispers. Leon looks over at me with a knowing grin. I exchanged one back.
I suddenly felt a arm on my shoulder, looking over. It was the brunette. "Can I borrow you?" She drags me into the bathroom. Too fast for me to react.
Anna scans the bathroom, no one was here. Ana looks back at me. "Okay, I'm going to get straight to the point!" I look at her. "One of those people fighting in black clothing, I think it's Leon." My chin dropped.
"What do you mean!? That's silly!"
"I'm almost sure about it! Remember when one of them picked of up and jumped with inhuman strength?" I nod. "His eyes looked awfully familiar, they looked like Leon's."
I wave my hands. "I doubt it. If Leon did have powers, he'd probably tell us." I tricked. Ana lets out a breath.
"I doubt it." We exit the bathroom. Leon was waiting for us outside of the door. He smiles when we strolled out. "Also! About the clothes, their in my backpack." She places her backpack to the ground and digs through her backpack. Then pulls out the clothes. "Here!"
I obtain a blue shirt, big short sleeves with a oval hole in the back. Also bright yellow shorts. "Looks good!" I compliment. I look over at Leon's clothes.
He had a bright orange, sleeveless shirt, and bright yellow joggers. Furthermore white shades. "These are great!" Leon gazes at Ana. "Did you really make these?"
"Yeah, it took a while. I'm glad you like it!"
.....
.....
It was the night of the Neon Dance. I stood in front of the school, waiting for my friends. The place was packed with teenagers, and two lines of teenager trying to gain permission to enter.
"Hey, Marissa!" I heard. Turning my head toward the source of the noise, Leon was jogging toward me with his neon clothes and shades on.
I chuckle by the sight of the shades. "Nice shades." I joked. Leon pushes them up, keeping them from following. Leon surveys my attire.
"You look beautiful." I scratch the back of my head. Leon looks at the back. "Do you mind having this big hole?"
I shake my head. "I don't mind showing a bit of skin." I said, growing a confident smile. Leon shared a smile as well.
Despite all the noise the teenagers were making, we then heard high heels clinking our way. "Hey guys!" Instead of her normal ponytail, she had a flower braid. Her outfit was neon green pleated skater dress, and a black belt around her waist. She stopped in front of us. "You two look great!"
"We wouldn't look this cool if you didn't make these. Thanks!" The blue-haired boy grabs us by our wrist. "Come on! Let's go!" He dashes to the front as we follow close behind. Trying not to fall.
When glancing over at Ana, her face was filled with excitement. Her eyes glisten of eagerness. My heart ached, not in pain, but due to the warmth that I've been given. I felt like I was in heaven.
As we enter the ball room. Leon lets go of our wrist as he was in awe of the design of the room. Their were stairs that lead to a upstairs, big ribbons on the walls and white fence, and some chandeliers hanging from the roof. The room dazzles in its beauty. "The place is breath-taking." Ana comments.
"Certainly!" I add. Leon scours the area enthusiastically. He seemed like a bomb that was about to explode. I noticed how he was about to run off. Before he could, I seize onto his shirt collar. "Don't run away!"
Leon looks back at me. "But this place is begging for me to explore it!" I sigh, letting go of his collar. The orange-haired boy exhales a breath. I inspect for the brunette, but she was nowhere to be seen. She then appears beside me.
"Brought drinks." Leon grasp on his drink while examining it. I did the same. "Don't drink them yet, their's going to be a small speech by a teacher. Then we're free to do whatever." I nod.
Leon was already sipping it. We both looked at him, he stopped once he noticed our demeanors. "What?"
From the second floor, Katie strolls to the white elegant fence with a drink in her hand. In her right hand was a microphone. Students surround the place as all heads turn toward her. She held the microphone close. "Welcome to the Neon Dance! Let us enjoy this event without letting our grades separate us. Now raise your glasses..." Everyone did so, including us three. "And have a toast to your dream! Cheers!"
"Cheers!" Everyone shouts. We then gently hit our glasses together. Leon immediately drinks the drink. Music then enters my ear as the musicians begin playing violins.
Gasp could be heard from the bar of smoothies. Turning our heads, a small crowd was formed around it. Leon was the first to jog toward them as he squeezes through the students. Ana and I swiftly follow behind. When scanning Leon, his eyes were wide. "Cassie?!" Ana and I shout.
Cassie was chill as she pours the drink into three glass cups, pushing it toward us. "It's Shirogane Mixed Juice. Try it."
"I didn't know Cassie was this cool." Leon whispers. The three of us sit in the seats as we survey the liquid.
"How pretty." Ana comments, taking a sipping. "Not to mention it's delicious." Cassie smiles at her.
Leon swallows some of the drink as well. "You're amazing, Cassie!"
"I try my best." She replies. I took a try of it as well. No doubt about it. It was good; I wouldn't mind having seconds. She points to her left. "The buffet is that way."
Leon wraps his arm around mine. "Lets go, Mari!" He pulls me to that direction, which caught me a little off guard. Ana jogs close behind us.
Leon and I gaze at the countless food. "There's so many! They went all out."
I begin naming the food. "Beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes, lamb, rams, hogs, dogs..." and so on. Ana was faster than a cheetah; as she sprints around the table, placing a piece of each food on her plate. She then stood next to us while eating her food. "You're going to eat all that?"
"Yup!" Leon picks up a plate and picks up a sandwich. He takes a bite before placing it on his plate.
I obtain and plate. Scanning the table, the hotdogs caught my eye. I saunter toward it and reach out for it. My hand then brushes off another hand, which reached for the same thing. "Oh, sorry." I look up at the person. Red eyes, black hair. "Wait, Hasi?"
"Marissa." He scrutinize my outfit before smiling. "Cute. It fits you." The boy compliments. "I gotta go, I'm searching for a friend."
I nod. "Good luck!" I wave as he jogs away. Leon ambles next to me.
"Lets start eating, I'm hungry!" Leon gushes.
.....
Leon pats his stomach. "I feel like a hippo." He comments. I chuckle. He scans the area. "Do you know where Ana is?"
"She went to organize the party." A male teenager strolls toward us with a smile. His most noticeable trait was his blue quiff hairstyle. Examining his other features; he had dark brown eyes, cocoa skin color, and nice neon clothes. "Hello Marissa. I'm Alain. Ana's told me about you."
I scratch my head, letting out a nervous chuckle. "I hope they were good things." Two people stroll behind him, one male with long blond hair that reaches to his shoulders. And the other one a girl with a dirty blonde wavy bob.
"Huh?" The girl takes out the lollipop in her mouth. Examining the both of us unimpressed. "Alain, who are these people?"
The boy greets us with a big smile. He sticks out his hand. "I'm Beau! That little lady is my sister Belle. Nice to meet you!" He said in a singing tone.
Leon shakes his hand enthusiastically. "Nice to meet you Beau! I'm Leon," my partner points toward me. "She's Marissa, a friend." Beau surveys my hair before jogging behind me and driving his hand through my soft hair.
"Hun, what conditioner you use?" I let out a loud laugh. Belle sticks the red lollipop back in her mouth, her face said she wasn't impressed.
Clapping overlaps the room. Leon grew a grin. "The clapping means the waltz is about the start." Beau strolls to his sister and holds out his hand, politely bowing down. Belle places her hand on top of his, Beau stood up as the two saunter to the dance floor.
I hold out my hand to Leon. "Want to dance?" Leon examines my hand. Slowly his hand reaches for my hand as he gently settles his palm on mine. I steer the orange-head near the dance floor. I position my hand under his arm while my other one was bundling his hand. Leon settles his hand on my shoulder as the other was holding on hand tenderly.
"Mind if I tell you something a bit embarrassing?" I look at him. "I don't know how to do the waltz."
"Here, I'll show you." I move my foot backward. "As I move my foot back, you step forward." He does so with ease. "And the same with the other foot." I pull back my leg as his comes closer. "Continue to do so while moving in a square. Sounds good?" Leon nods, scrutinizing his feet. Slowly, he was getting used to it.
Alain was sitting in a chair while watching the teenagers dance. Ana sits next to him. "Hey Alain. What did I miss?" He points toward us with a smile.
"A bit of bonding." Ana examines us. She let's out a breath before smiling.
Leon's grip tightens a little, which made me think he was scared. "We can take it slow. No need to rush." The male exhales a breath before stepping on my toes. Which caused me to lose my balance and fall backwards. Instinctively, he leans in and bundles his arm around my waist. I enfold my arms around his neck to keep me from falling. We stared at each before sharing a smile. I brush off his shoulder. "Nice moves."
.....
"Why must we record this stupid dance at all?" The boy said, getting his camera out of the case. With a yellow cone next to him. "They're a lot better things to record." His face went red.
.....
Ravana's ear twitches. He stands up from the table, where the chess board was. With Okuma sitting on the other side. "One more game! I'm going to beat you this time!"
"You don't even know how to play." She strolls out of the room and down the long hallway. Her long, straight purple hair was halfway down her body.
Ravana opens the door to a room with only a chair and a window. The lady saunters toward the chair while swinging her hips side to side, then sits down. She raises her and moves it around gracefully. Purple slime appears as it swiftly crawls to the next victim.
.....
While the guy was standing up with the camera and a yellow cone in his other hand, the slime envelopes his body, including the camera. The Phantom smiles, examining his body. He had a suit on with a camera and yellow cone.
Scanning the area to see what he could do. He then spots the breaker on the wall. "Time to have a little fun."
.....
The lights turn off in the room. Everyone looks around in confusion as the area filling with whispers. Leon and I looked at each other with a knowing demeanor. Ana shouts out her command. "Everyone, stay calm!"
"This way!" Alain jogs toward the door and opens it. "The corridors are still lit!" All the teenagers and teachers jog out of the room as they stand outside the door.
Beau and Belle jog toward us. "Hey guys!" The three of us turn toward them. Beau looks at Ana. "It seems only the party hall's lights are out." Ana nods.
"And the light switches aren't working." Belle adds, holding the lollipop in her hand. "We'll have to check the breaker panel in the storage room."
"Storage room?" One the teenagers whisper. The group eavesdropped on what he said. Leon leans toward the guy descreetly. "It's one of the school's mysteries."
"Seven mysteries?" Another guy said.
"I hear it's haunted by ghosts." A girl comments. Ana's eyes widen by the comment, which only I noticed.
"Are you alright?" I ask.
Ana swallows down her pride and nods. "I'm fine. I'll head to the storage room. Leon, Marissa, you two stay here." Without any questions, we nod. Ana turns to Belle and Beau. "The same with you two." They nod as well. "Alain, can you come with me?"
"Sure." Ana and Alain saunter toward the doors and enter down the hallway. When Leon was about to stop them, I place a hand on his shoulder and shake my head.
"She'll be just fine." I assure. Leon exhales a breath and stands back to normal.
Alain places his hand behind his head. "It's probably a prank. Who believes in-"
"Please stop talking!" Ana snaps, causing Alain to jump. "People has high hopes for this party. Now let's get back on track." Alain nods his head slowly. A bit frighten of her snapping at him.
Ana opens the door to the storage room. The two stroll to the breaker. Alain opens it to show multiple breakers. "It seems the hall's breaker really was switched off." He looks back at the brunette. "Switching it on should solve our problem."
A smile crawls on her face. "Thank goodness."
"Boo?" Ana's eye's widen as she sucks in loads of air. The two turn around. They faced a small floating ghost. "Boooo!"
Alain grins. "We found our prankster. Let's get him!" He sprints toward the ghost. The ghost floats away and turns to a different direction. "Come back here!" He shouts. Before he knew it, Alain's face hit the wall and fell to the ground unconscious.
"Are you okay?" Ana questions. Alain was laying on the ground with his eyes shut. "I'll take that as a no." The big Phantom stood on the other side of the room. The ghost was being projected from the camera, the spirit floats toward Ana.
"Boo!" Ana backs away before sitting on the ground and placing her head on her legs, with her arms over her head.
"A g-ghost!" She shouts. Her body was shaking as sweat pours from her head. The girl lets out a loud scream. Multiple ghost appear as they surround the brunette. As the Phantom tries to attack the girl, the crystal glows brightly as a force field appears around her.
The Phantom aims a punch toward the force field. Before it could hit it, a shield dived through his wrist. The Phantom's hand fell off his arm, but slowly reconnected back together with the help of the slime. Ana's eyes widen. With the black attire on, I stood in front of Ana as the shield flies back in my hand. The monster grows bigger as he aims a punch at me. I hold up my shield, blocking the attack.
Leon jogs toward the monster and kicks it's leg. The Phantom lost its balance as it fell to its back. I turn toward my friend and bend to my knees. Pulling off my mask, I showed a smile. "Everything's going to be okay." I assure. Ana place a hand in her forehead as she laid on the ground. It seems like she fainted.
"Marissa, how's Ana?" Leon ask. I gave a thumbs up. Leon nods, facing the Phantom who was standing back up. "Leave the Phantom to me!" He dashes toward the monster. The Phantom aims two punches toward Leon. The boy bounces on his hand and prances again, landing on the second one. Leon leaps in the air and kicks the Phantom with flames. The Phantom stumbles backwards, but swiftly regains balance. Leon lands on the ground with ease.
I knew I could do much in a situation like this. So I sat still as the shield disappear. Leon jumps backward, dodging the attacks from the Phantom. The boy almost lost balance, so he rolls rearward and flips onto his feet. The Phantom slams the yellow cone around the teenager. He tries to break through, but no luck avail. "Marissa!"
The Phantom throws his hand toward my legs. I swiftly jumped over, but with a weak landing. The Phantom sent his second attack, I flew to the wall and fell on the floor. Bruises were over my arms, I couldn't stop them from trembling. Yet, I stood back up and sprint to the Phantom.
The Phantom threw a punch to my face, I roll to the ground and briskly stood back up. Raising my hand, I summoned my shield and threw it to the orb in his stomach. The weapon missed by a inch, as it's kinetic energy stopped, sitting in the stomach. My breathing was becoming burdensome. Instantly, I was shot it the wall with my back hitting it. I didn't need to look at my body to know there was a couple contusions.
The Phantom was impacting the force field, which was slowly dispersing. I stood up with little stagger. "Hey!" I yelled. The Phantom regards me. "Let's get one thing straight..." I started. My teeth were clenching together, as my hand balled into a fist. "I'm not doin' some bullshit friendship speech. But ones things for sure, your not touching my friends!" The crystal necklace luminescent of a intense black color. Dark energy floats out of it, constructing a bow and arrow. My eyes transfigure from blue to red. I grasp hold of the weapon and pulled back the arrow. Narrowing my eyes at my target, I shot the arrow at the orb.
The arrow successfully strikes the orb as it breaks into numerous pieces. The slime crawls off the victim as the camera and yellow cone went back to its normal size. The bow and arrow dematerialize into dark energy and wafts into my necklace. Leon sprints toward me and envelopes his arms around me. He held onto my stomach tightly. I bundle my arms around him as well. The hug lasted longer than a minute, after some time the hug broke apart.
I took off the black overalls and handed them to Leon. The force field around Ana disappeared as I jog to her side. Shaking her with little force. "Ana, wake up." I whisper.
The brunette let out a groan as her eyes slowly open. "Marissa?" I nod. Ana's upper half stood up as she examines the place. Leon was waking up Alain while the teenager laid on the wall, he was waking up as well. I stood up and held out my hand. My friend clasp onto it and stands up. Brushing off her neon colored clothes.
"Do you feel okay?" Ana blinks, her face looked like she realized something. She hits her head with her hand.
"Yeah, just my memories are a little blurry. But I'll be fine."
.....
.....
The lights turned back on. Teenagers enter the room as chatter quickly fills it. Katie was standing near the elegant fence. "Let the party commence once again!" The violin music begins to play again, teenagers partner up with each other and start the waltz.
Ana was chatting with Alain. Leon and I were sitting in a chair together with food on our plate, watching the other teenagers dance. Without the need to look at each other, we gave a fist bump.
Alain held out a hand to Ana. "Can I have this dance?" He ask.
She tilts her head. "Sorry, but I've already chosen who I'll have my first dance with." Alain blinks as he pulls his hand back.
Ana saunters toward us and gently grabs my hand. I stood up and examine her. "Huh?"
She gave a soft smile. "Let us dance, my friend." I blink a couple times before realizing what she said. Leon gave a little shove. Which almost made me fall over, Ana helps me keeps my balance as I we begin to do the waltz.
I place a hand on her shoulder as our hands held each other's. "Follow my lead." Ana said. We gracefully dance in circles, our feet moving in sync. I was impressed by her dancing skills, memorized by her movements. "You're dancing well. Thank you, Marissa."
I grew a smile. "No problem!"
