Chapter 13: Discovering Secrets
Author's note: During the movie interrogation scene, Rey pushes Kylo out of her mind with the Force, even gaining information from his mind in the process. Considering we've seen Kylo hold a blaster shot in midair while talking and then executing someone without losing focus on either, he has tremendous mental concentration. It seems unlikely she'd be able to get past his mental barriers to learn anything, let alone push him out.
My version of Kylo isn't trying to be the next Vader. I don't know how he would've retrieved the burnt helmet as Luke would've buried it after the funeral pyre, and Kylo wouldn't know where the burial site was located. Finding a charred helmet on a forest moon would be a challenging task, and I would think he'd have more important things to attend to with the First Order and the Knights of Ren. This Kylo isn't even thinking about Vader but is trying to carve out a destiny for himself.
When Kylo asks Rey for information on BB-8, she rattles off some technical jargon rather than answering with what Kylo really wants. A BB unit is rather new to the Star Wars universe, so it seemed odd a person who has salvaged junk all their lives on a backwater planet would have knowledge of the top of the line equipment, so I have Kylo respond with...
"Firstly, selenium drives are not used in BB units, and secondly, thermal hyperscan vindicators haven't been in use for a decade," Kylo countered. "Living on Jakku, salvaging scraps, has given you a wealth of technical knowledge, but newer units like BB droids are outside your expertise."
"Best I could do," Rey admitted.
Kylo leaned forward, holding an open hand slightly above her forehead. Rey's face twisted into a grimace as Kylo began sifting through her mind.
"You were trained," Kylo said. "Sentis. He's still on Jakku, and you're concerned about him."
Kylo curled his fingers slightly, intensifying his search. Rey's head slammed backwards against the headrest, her teeth clenched together in pain. It was all she could do to keep from screaming. He abruptly stopped, lowering his hand. Rey cautiously opened her eyes to find him staring at her once more.
"The daughter of a Jedi," Kylo whispered. Even with the interference of his helmet, Rey could hear the astonishment in his voice. "How is this possible?"
Without warning, Kylo reached out with both hands as if to strangle her; his fingers were curved claws within inches of her face. This time, Rey did scream as it felt as if her brain was being flayed apart. Kylo relented once again, lowering his hands to his sides.
"So," he said calmly. "Even you do not know. It doesn't matter, a puzzle for another day. Had you been trained in the ways of the Force, you might have been able to resist me, but as it is, I managed to retrieve the map."
He turned away from her, heading for the exit and pressing a switch on the wall to open the door. Six stormtroopers waited in the corridor, and Kylo waved them inside.
"Keep her under guard," he told the soldiers. "If anyone but me tries to release her restraints, kill them, but any harm to her, and you will get the same."
"Understood," the leader of the stormtroopers acknowledged.
Restricted Scene Summary – Kylo goes to report to Snoke. Hux interrupts and says the enemy has the droid and the map, but Kylo explains he has the map as well. Incomplete as it is, Kylo is confident he'll be able to make use of it.
Snoke decides to use the weapon on the Republic base and destroy their portion of the map, leaving no one to challenge them in their pursuit of Skywalker. He then orders Kylo to bring Rey to him.
