Chapter 5
Nikita shook his head as he stood up and looked around at where he was. He rubbed his eyes as he was not sure where he was. Standing up carefully, he turned around, expecting to see his mother behind him, but she was not there. He started to panic and tear up, thinking that she had abandoned him.
*No. Don't be like that. That's stupid. No way would mom abandon me.* Nikita thought to himself in an attempt to calm himself down. Maybe she did follow him, but was somewhere else in wherever he was. Taking deep breaths in an attempt to calm down, he rubbed his face and wiped the tears that were going down his cheeks, he looked around himself to see where he was. He could see that there were pillars with blackened material that reached the ceiling, although a few of them had blaster bolt holes in them, as if a battle had taken place in this place. Placing his hand on his backpack's straps and rubbing it gently, as if it would have a calming effect on him, he slowly started walking forward, looking around and making sure to look around at his surroundings. He could feel the floor was smooth on his feet, realizing he was walking on a long brown carpet, seeing there were a few brown carpets ahead as well, with there also being shorter blue carpets on the sides. He looked to his left and saw a vast hall, with a few pillars also reaching the ceiling, although this time the pillars were of lighter color, although it was still black.
"Where am I?" He muttered to himself, wondering where was he. What he also found strange was the fact that there was nobody here at all. As far as he could tell, the place was completely deserted. He thought it was bizarre, as surely a place that had a massive hall would have hundreds, if not thousands of people, and yet there was not a single soul to be found either here in the corridor or the hall on his left. He also couldn't sense anyone anywhere in here. Granted, his mother, Jolee and Juhani, whom he considered his uncle and aunt respectively, did help train him in the ways of the force for 2 years, and while he was a fast learner like his father and had a very strong connection to the force due to him being the son of Revan and Bastila, Bastila stopped his training abruptly when he was 4 years old. As well as that, Jolee and Juhani stopped visiting. He always asked her why she stopped training him. She always tried to make up some excuse, such as she was busy doing stuff. But he suspected that she was holding something from him and that she wasn't telling him the truth.
He rubbed his head and tried to figure out why there was nobody here in this building. He did have a few ideas, such as the building was closed off to the public and no one was allowed to enter. But if that were the case, then why weren't there any patrols around here to make sure that no one entered the building, why weren't there cameras or alarms around here? Were the people who were supposed to be in charge of this building so arrogant, believing that no one could enter this building that they didn't even bother to place at least some people around here to ensure that no one broke in? He stopped moving when he heard footsteps ahead of him. Or more specifically, he sensed two people ahead of him.
Quickly looking around, he tried desperately to find a place where he could hide from the people that were approaching him. He quietly ran backwards from the way he came from and saw a door to his left. Thanking the force for placing this door right here, he quickly entered it and hid inside. Thankfully, it was dark, so he pressed himself against the wall, leaving a small section of the door open so that he could hear about what was going on outside, while at the same time making sure that nobody would notice that the door was opening slightly. As he waited, he could hear the footsteps coming closer. He took a deep breath and patiently waited, hoping that whoever was outside would walk by him.
"So. What's going on? Why was the alarm raised?" He could hear someone ask, most likely to the person that they were walking alongside with.
*Well. That's not good. this place has some security measures. Seems like I tripped an alarm or something.* Nikita thought to himself as he heard the steps coming closer and closer to where he was.
"I don't know. Apparently, there's an intruder somewhere out here in the temple." The answer came to the first person.
"You reckon that it's a Jedi that broke inside?" The first voice asked the second.
"It's possible, although personally, I find it unlikely. Getting on Coruscant as a Jedi is highly unlikely due to the fact that going back to their destroyed temple is more or less pointless, since their brethren are dead, the Jedi are hated across the galaxy and the temple is empty. It would be suicidal to come back here, not to mention completely pointless. And getting inside is nearly impossible. But just because we butchered nearly the entire Jedi Order doesn't mean that there are some out there who survived, although soon all of the Jedi will be found and burned out of their hiding holes. I heard that Lord Vader is the one in charge of hunting down the Jedi survivors." The second soldier explained his thoughts of how likely it was that it was a Jedi broke inside the temple.
Nikita's heart dropped when he heard what the second soldier said. That's impossible. No way could the Jedi have been wiped out so quickly. He remembered that his mother told him that the Jedi were hailed as heroes and they were very popular among the population of the galaxy. Had she been mistaken? He covered his mouth to ensure that whoever was outside could not hear him as he was struggling to hold his breath in.
"Yeah. The Jedi deserved it. After leading our brothers to their deaths on some god forsaken planets and then attempting to launch a coup d'etat against the Chancellor and killing him. I would say the Jedi deserved to be wiped off the face of the galaxy." The guard chuckled as he and his partner walked by the room that Nikita was hiding in, although he dared not exit until he could not hear the foot steps anymore. Releasing the breath that he was holding, he slowly opened the door and peaked outside, looking at the right and then the left, seeing no one there, he stepped outside, closing the door behind him.
Nikita realized what the two soldiers had just said and in how much trouble he was in. Nearly the entire Jedi Order was dead, and there were a few survivors out there, but they too were being hunted down, led by this 'Lord Vader'. He had no idea who he was or what he was, but he was not planning to meet this Lord Vader. Looking back, he quickly ran forward, making sure that his feet could not be heard, hoping that there was a way down. He ran forward before he stopped, turning around and seeing a staircase. It was also here that he could smell the smoke in the air, as if a great fire had taken place somewhere in here. He wasn't sure why, but he had a sick feeling in his stomach as he ran down the stairs, getting down to ground floor so he was standing on the side of the grand hall. He could also see what he guessed was the exit to this building. Panting slightly and letting his curiosity get the better of him, he slowly started to walk towards it, hearing his shoes echo through the temple hall as he saw the sun shining through the entrance. Covering his eyes slightly so he didn't get blinded by the sun, he was standing just a few steps away from the gate that separated the temple and the city of Coruscant that he saw before him.
Nikita remembered visiting this planet a few times with his mother. They lived in an apartment that was not too far away from the Jedi Temple. He then remembered why this place felt somewhat familiar when he looked around. This was the Jedi temple of Coruscant that he was in, and he himself went here at least twice with his mother. He remembered the looks that he and his mother received whenever they were in the Jedi Temple. He remembered the looks of jealously that the other Jedi students and younglings send his way. Even though he was only 4 when he visited the temple with his mother, his connection to the force was phenomenal, suppressing all the younglings, padawans, knights and even a few Jedi Masters themselves in terms of his sheer connection to the force. Of course, he could not forget the looks of shame, anger and what looked like disgust that the older knights and masters send to his mother and a few even at himself. When he tried to tell his mother about it, she told him to just ignore it. However, this didn't work on him and one day, while Bastila was away and Jolee was looking after Nikita, he asked Jolee this exact question. He still remembers the conversation as if it happened yesterday, closing his eyes as he remembered the conversation that he had with Jolee at Bastila's house. He remembered that it was evening and it was very late. Jolee was setting Nikita to bed and was about to leave the room when Nikita stopped him.
"Uncle Jolee. Can I ask you something?" A four-year-old Nikita called out to Jolee before he closed the door completely. Jolee heard his call and opened the door, his head peaking out as he looked at the child.
"Sure. What is it you want to ask, kiddo?" Jolee asked him as he came back inside and closed the door, looking at him as he grabbed a chair using the force and setting it in front of Nikita's bed before he processed to sit on the chair and look at Nikita.
"So. When me, and Mom were at the, Jedi Temple. I saw the looks that the older Jedi send to my mother. It looked like, they were ashamed, angry and even disgusted at my mother. And when I tell her about this, she just tells me to ignore it, and it's not a big deal. But I know that she's not telling me the truth. I don't understand it. Isn't my mother one of the best Jedi in the Order?" He asked Jolee as he hugged his toy lothcat. It was a full minute of silence before Jolee sighed and chuckled humorlessly as he looked at the young child. Bastila would probably be very unhappy with Jolee if she found out what he was about to tell her son, but he decided that he would give into Nikita's curious
"Well, yes. I do admit. Your mother is probably one of the best Jedi that the Order ever had. She is one of the best and kindest Jedi I've met. I think the reason why the older Jedi have these feelings to your mother that you described is, well. The Jedi don't exactly have a good opinion on relationships. They believe that love and passion will make a Jedi weak, that they can be turned to the dark side easily if their partner is in danger, seriously injured or dead. And while I don't deny that this can happen to any Jedi, they are wrong about love and passion. I was once married to a Jedi myself, just like your mother and father. It's a, really touchy subject to me. What you need to know is that my wife, like many Jedi during the war against Exar Kun, fell to the dark side. I fought against her, but I refused to strike her down. I regretted that decision, and eventually she was killed in battle. The Jedi don't realize that love doesn't lead to the dark side. Passion can lead to rage and fear, and can be controlled... but passion is not the same thing as love. Controlling your passions while being in love... that's what they should teach you to beware. But love itself will save you... not condemn you. Also, the fact that your mother married Revan didn't exactly sit well with the Jedi, as he did commit a lot of, questionable actions before he returned to the order." Jolee explained to Nikita, looking at him as Nikita was getting really curious by what Jolee said, mainly about his father, Revan.
"What did, my father do? Before he came back to the order?" Nikita asked him, with Jolee sighing and standing up.
"I can't explain it. Not now, at least. Now go to sleep, kid. It's getting late. Your mother will be really unhappy if she knew that you were staying up all night." Jolee told him as he petted his head and put the chair back from where he got it, going to the door and exiting the room, closing it, but not before he heard Nikita say, 'good night, uncle Jolee.' which caused him to smile to himself as he went to his bed.
Nikita smiled as he remembered the memory. He snapped out of the dream when he heard a blaster, or more accurately, the clip of multiple blasters as he opened his eyes and looked around, seeing several soldiers surround him with blasters aimed at him. This time he could see more clearly what the soldiers looked like. They were wearing white armor that surrounded their entire body, seeing a few spots in their armor, like the arms and shoulders having black spots. He guessed that they were wearing some sort of bodysuit. He saw there were about 6 soldiers around him, one in front of him, one in the back, two on his sides and the other two slightly behind the first one. He saw that they had the blue markings on their shoulders.
"Hands up where I can see them!" The leader of the squad ordered him, with Nikita taking deep steady breaths as he raised his hands in what appeared to be surrendering to them. He could see that these soldiers were slightly trigger-happy, and if he made a move or a mistake, they wouldn't hesitate to kill him. "Now. On your knees." He ordered Nikita to get on his knees as the squad moved in slightly closer, pinning Nikita. Nikita refused to do such a thing, instead glaring at the trooper.
"I think this is the intruder that tripped the alarm." He could hear the soldier on his right whisper to his buddy. He sensed the trooper behind him kick him in the leg, forcing him on one knee, before feeling the cool barrel of a blaster pointed behind his head.
"I won't say it again, kid. On, your knees. Otherwise, you'll get a hole in the back of your head." The soldier behind him growled as Nikita knew continued to glare at the leader, getting on both his knees and feeling his arms going behind his back, before feeling a pair of hand cuffs on his hands and the soldier tightening it around his hands. He felt the soldier grab his arm and force him to stand up.
"Take him to the transport and to the prison. Then we'll see what happens to him." The leader informed them as Nikita was shoved forward by the soldier behind him, forcing him to move forward and follow the leader.
*What is going on here?* Nikita thought to himself as he boarded the transport with the soldiers and started to be taken to the prison they were talking about.
