Chapter 2

"Revan. Are you ready?" Canderous asked Revan through the comlink. He and T3-M4 were already in the Ebon Hawk and parked the ship outside the house. Canderous was sitting in the pilot seat, waiting for Revan to come on board so they could go find Mandalore's mask that Revan had hidden away after the Mandalorian wars.

"Yeah. I'm coming. Just, give me a few minutes. I won't take long." Revan replied as he rubbed his mask that he was holding in his hands. He had finished getting everything that he needed, including packing the items he needed in a bag and he was wearing the robes and armor that he wore during the Jedi civil war as the sith lord, which was mainly black and red. He looked at the mandalorian mask that he was holding in his hands, seeing his own face reflected on the mask's visor. He remembered when he picked up the mask. It was during the Mandalorian wars, when Revan and his group of Jedi went to the planet Cathar, investigating the genocide the mandalorians carried out on the Cathar people that happened nearly a decade ago. When Malak returned to the group, he was followed by a council member, Vrook Lamar, and a few other council loyalists, who demanded that the Revanchist be disbanded.

While the argument was occurring between the Revanchist and the Council loyalists, Revan noticed a Mandalorian mask on the shore next to him. When he picked up the mask and the light shone on the mask, all the Jedi that were present experienced a vision through the force of what happened on Cathar. When the Mandalorians, led by Cassus Fett, pushed the Cathar people into the sea after the battle. They were prepared to commit genocide on the Cathar people when a Mandalorian female stood in front of the Cathar people and pleaded with Cassus Fett that they didn't have to do this, that the Cathar people were beaten, pleading him to spare the Cathar. Cassus, however, didn't care, claiming they had to take revenge against the Cathar people for defeating the Mandalorians during the Great Sith War. After this, the Mandalorians fired missiles into the sea, killing the Mandalorian woman and the Cathar people. After this vision, the Jedi council begrudging allowed the Revanchist to fight the Mandalorians. In honor of the woman's sacrifice, Revan donned her mask, vowing not to remove it until he and his followers brought the Mandalorians to justice. This mask was what made him famous and infamous across the galaxy, as he chose to continue wearing this mask after the Mandalorian wars and into the Jedi Civil War. After his capture, unbeknownst to the Jedi Council, Bastila was able to grab the mask without anyone noticing and  claimed that his mask was destroyed on the bridge. The reason she hid the mask was because the Jedi  destroyed Revan's original armor when they captured him, but after the war, he was able to recreate the armor so it looked a lot similar to what he wore during the Mandalorian wars and the Jedi Civil war before he was captured.

Revan looked at it and clipped it onto his belt. He didn't need to wear it right now, but it would help him a lot during this mission. Since he didn't take off his mask that often, nearly the entire galaxy, minus the Jedi Order, Bastila, his son, the crew of the Ebon Hawk and HK, didn't know what he looked like behind the mask. This often worked to his advantage, as he was able to surprise his enemies who didn't know what he looked like. Smiling to himself, he exited the house, making sure his lightsabers were on.

"Revan! Wait!" He stopped in front of the ramp when he heard his wife call out his name. He turned around and saw Bastila, who was wearing a white shirt and brown pants standing at the door, looking at him with teary eyes. He also saw that she was carrying Nikita in one of her arms. He rubbed his eyes as he felt some tears were forming in his eyes and he was getting rid of them. He saw Bastila starting to walk towards him until she was standing in front of him. He looked down and looked at his son, who was looking at him so curiously, wondering what was going on and where his dad was going. Nikita was too young to understand where Revan was going and why he was doing this. He hoped that when Nikita grows up, either he, Bastila or maybe even HK could explain to him why Revan was doing this, and not whatever lies or propaganda that either the Republic or the Jedi would likely tell him.

"Don't worry, my son. Hopefully in a few weeks, I'll be back." He tried to assure his son that he would be coming back as he cupped his chin with his free hand and stroked it gently. He almost cried as he stroked his son's chin, but he was able to calm himself. He hated that he had to lie to his son that it might take years for him to complete his mission. And that's assuming Revan would even survive it, as he knew that the odds of him surviving this were low. But he hoped that in the future, Nikita would understand why he was doing this. If he managed to survive and complete his task, Revan would come back and if Nikita was old enough, Revan would explain to him everything about why he did what he did. But for now, Nikita would stay here with Bastila, away from the eyes of the galaxy. At least for now.  Revan gently kissed his son's forehead and looked at him smiling. Nikita tried to reach out to his father with his arms, as if he wanted to be held by Revan.

"Go on. Hold him." Bastila encouraged him as she smiled at him. Revan looked at her and then his son. He knew that this might be the last time he would ever see his son. He gently took Nikita from Bastila's arms and held him. He smiled happily as his son was looking at him. His big, innocent brown eyes looked at Revan's purple eyes. Revan knew in his heart that eventually, when he grew up, Nikita would hear of what he committed during the mandalorian wars, the Jedi Civil War and so much more. He dared not think how would his son react to all his acts. For now, he didn't think about it as he smiled at his son, then at Bastila, who was smiling at Revan as she cupped his cheeks with her hands. Revan smiled at Bastila as he pressed his forehead against hers, looking at her brown chocolate eyes. He smiled sadly at her as he cupped her cheek with his left hand.

"Revan! You coming?" Revan turned around as he saw Canderous on the ramp, watching the family with his arms crossed. "You might want to hurry it up. The sooner that we start to start for Mandalore's mask, the sooner I can reunite the Mandalorian clans and prepare them for whatever threat you warned about lurking in the unknown regions." He added. Besides HK-47, Bastila, T3-M4 and Canderous, Revan didn't tell anyone else about the threat on the unknown regions, as he knew that he had to do this alone.

"Yeah. I'm coming. Just, give me a minute. I'm almost done." Revan nodded to Canderous that he was almost done saying goodbye to his family. Canderous understood and went back inside, where he went to the cockpit and waited for Revan. Revan blinked back tears that nearly formed in his eyes as he kissed Nikita's forehead again, then gently kissed his wife a goodbye kiss as he gave Nikita back to her. Before he went on board, Bastila hugged him briefly and then pulled away. He could see that she too was trying to blink back tears that threatened to leave her eyes.

"I love you, Bastila. We'll see each other again. I promise." Revan smiled sadly at her as he turned around and started to walk to the Ebon Hawk, boarding it as he turned around to face his family. He pressed the button that would close the ramp. As it slowly went up, he waved at his family goodbye, and Bastila did the same to him. Even Nikita tried to wave at him with help from Bastila as the ramp slowly went up, blocking their view of each other. The last thing Revan saw before the ramp closed fully was his wife's face. And then the ramp was secured in place, closing it. Revan felt the tears flowing down his cheeks and felt a pain in his heart, placing a hand on his heart as he rubbed the spot, as if he was trying to heal the pain. He felt like a piece of his heart had broken away and it would not return to him. Revan almost wanted to forget about everything. This quest to find Mandalore's mask, the threat in the Unknown Regions. He wanted to forget all that and spend his time and life with his loving, caring wife and his son. But he knew that as much as he wanted to be happy with his family, the force cursed him with knowledge about the threat in the Unknown Regions. And he would confront it. Not just for the Jedi or the galaxy, but for his wife and children. He wanted to end this threat once and for all so it could stop taking his friends and his loved ones away from him. Revan closed his eyes and wiped the tears from his face with his hands, turning around and walking to the cockpit, sitting in the pilot seat and looking at Canderous, nodding to him as they gently lifted the ship off the ground and left Lothal.

Bastila and Nikita continued to wave at the ship, even as it passed the clouds and entered the atmosphere. They stopped waving when Bastila sensed that the Ebon Hawk left Lothal. She guessed that Nikita sensed it as well, because he started crying hard. Her heart hurt as she watched her son cry, feeling his sadness of his father and wanting him back so badly. Bastila then broke down as well, crying with her son as they went inside.

*3 years later*

"Mom? Where are, we going?" Nikita asked his mom as they ran across the fields of Lothal, with one hand holding hers as they ran, and the other on the strap of his backpack to ensure it didn't fall off. At this point, Nikita was about 5 years old, and he had brown hair and brown eyes.

It had been 3 years since Revan had left them on his quest. Bastila didn't know what had happened to him, as he hadn't contacted them at all during that time. She didn't even know if her husband was alive. But she did know one thing. She, her son and the whole Jedi order was being hunted down by the Sith Triumvirate, and the Jedi were being mercilessly hunted down. It was a loose alliance of what had remained of Revan's empire that was nearly destroyed after the Jedi Civil war, but a few parts of the empire survived, and three sith lords managed to unite them. According to the Jedi Order, they were lead by Darth Traya, or Kreia as she was known in the past. She was once a Jedi master and a teacher of Revan himself, but after many of her students followed Revan to the Mandalorian wars, the Jedi Order blamed her and cast her out of the order. The Jedi order didn't know who the other two sith lords were, and that's what worried Bastila the most. She had been alerted by the force, warning her that the sith were coming to Lothal to kill her and either kill or worse, capture her son. Her other son, Vaner, was not force-sensitive, but she hid him in the city and gave him to a friend, just to make sure that he was safe from the sith that were hunting her before she went to pick up Nikita. She remembered what Revan told her, about the Jedi temple and its secret. Bastila was doubtful that it existed, but she was willing to try it.

"We're going, to the Jedi temple. You know where it is? Your father took you there a few times." Bastila told him where they were going, causing him to nod as he remembered. As they ran, they saw the Jedi temple slowly coming into view in the distance. It looked like a hill, but the temple was hidden inside the hill. Eventually they stopped as they stood in front of the temple and panted, sitting down and resting.

"Where is dad? Why isn't he here?" Nikita asked her as he looked at her while they were sitting. Bastila looked at him as she tried to think up of an excuse as to why Revan wasn't here.

"He's. He's busy, dear. He's helping lead the republic against the sith who are hunting us." She tried to lie to him. Thankfully, it seemed to work on him, as he nodded and looked down.

"I hope so." He muttered. Bastila's heart hurt when he said that, sensing his pain and his sadness. She could also sense that he wanted to see his father so badly.

"Can you stay here for a few minutes? I need, to look around here. Don't go anywhere." Bastila asked her son to stay here. She had to find a painting that Revan said was located somewhere around here. Nikita nodded and put his backpack down, taking it off and opening it. He grabbed a toy lothcat from inside that Revan had created for him before he left for his quest three years ago as Nikita started to play with the toy.

As Nikita was busy playing with his toy lothcat, Bastila walked around the temple, looking at the walls and searching for the painting. Revan told her to look for a painting of three figures that should be surrounded by lothwolves. It took a while and having to circle the temple twice, but she eventually found it. As Revan said, the painting showed three figures surrounded by lothwolves. The middle one, who was a tall man with grey skin, grey robes white hair and blue eyes with black sclera , she recognized as the father. The one on the left was a woman, who had yellow robes, green eyes and hair and pale skin, known as the daughter and the other one was the son, who had red eyes with black sclera, white skin with red markings and was wearing black armor. Bastila recognized these figures. The Jedi order had taught their students that these beings were known as the ones. The daughter and son represented the light side and dark sides of the force respectively, while the father maintained balanced between the two.

Bastila rubbed her head as she didn't know what to do next. Keeping calm and taking deep steady breaths, she closed her eyes and focused on the force, trying to figure out what to do next. At first, she couldn't sense anything, but eventually she felt her hand trying to touch a part of the painting that was out of her reach. Opening her eyes, Bastila looked around her, seeing a rock that she could use to stand on. Smiling to herself, she used the force to bring the rock to her, before she placed it just in front of the painting. She then processed to stand on the rock, closing her eyes again as her hand was placed on the painting. She could feel her hand on the daughter as her hand moved to where the daughter's left hand was. She thought that she could feel something on the daughter's left hand. As if there was a switch or something.

Deciding why not, she tried her luck and pressed her hand gently on the daughter's left hand. She could feel the hand being pushed into the temple. She continued to press her hand until it went fully in. Stepping back, she opened her eyes and saw the painting come alive. Bastila saw the painting light up despite the fact that it was daytime. She saw the Daughter's head turning and the Father pointing his left hand at the Son's fist. At first, she thought she heard something from the painting. Shaking her head and making sure nothing was wrong with her ears, she could hear the howlings of the wolfs, who started to run in circles around the three figures before they started to walk across the walls itself. Bastila blinked in surprise as she rubbed her eyes, making sure she wasn't just seeing things. After checking her eyes were fine, she saw that the wolves were indeed moving. Curious to see where they were going, Bastila followed them. She saw the wolves enter into a cave that led to the inside of the temple. Grabbing her lightsaber,  she ignited it, revealing the yellow blade of her lightsaber as she followed the lothwolves. She saw them forming a circle around a rock before they started to run around in a circle. Bastila realized that this must be the gateway to the world between worlds that Revan had taught her about. She turned around and exited the cave, going back to where she left Nikita.

When she did return to Nikita and saw him, her heart nearly stopped by what he saw.
