You're What I Love
Author's note I wrote this before TROS but I forgot to publish it
The Resistance had gathered on Endor. The old Empire base had served them well, after nearly being wiped out by the First Order.
Finn had sat by Rose's bed while she was unconscious, day and night, watching over her and waiting for her to wake up. He had so many things that he wanted to tell her, he wanted to thank her for saving his life, and tell her how he really felt about her. Every time he sat at her side, admiring her beauty as she slept, he thought about all of things that he wanted to tell her. He wanted to tell everything that had happened, but a year had passed and he was beginning to lose hope that she would ever wake up, and if she did, would she be the same? Would she even remember him?
He looked over at her, she was still lost in a deep, peaceful sleep. He reached over and grabbed her hand, gently stroking it with his thumb. "Rose, please wake up. I miss you." He whispered.
Her eyes fluttered open and she turned to look at him. "Finn?" She whispered.
He gasped, "Rose? You're awake?" He asked, hugging her excitedly.
She smiled and nodded. "What happened? Did we make it?" She asked.
He nodded.
"How long was I out?" She asked.
"Almost a year," he answered.
She gasped. "You have to tell me everything that's happened."
"I will," he promised. "Later."
She nodded. Then she looked at him. "Your hair has grown." She said.
He reached up and he smoothed his hair down nervously. "Um... yeah, do you like it?"
She smiled and nodded, before reaching up to run her fingers through his dark kinky curls. He blushed as she did so. "Rose, I..." He began nervously, wanting to tell her everything, to thank her for saving his life, and that he loved her. But his nerves began to get the better of him.
She looked at him intently. "Yes?"
"I... I should tell the others that you're awake."
"Oh," she replied a little disappointed.
Later that day, Rose tried to talk to Finn, he had promised to tell her about everything that had happened to the Resistance in the past year, but every time she tried to talk to him he would make up an excuse not to. At first she thought that he was just busy, but then his excuses began to become less and less believable, and he began to act strange every time he saw her, he seemed almost afraid of her. Rose was beginning to worry about him, what if something was wrong?
She tried to brush it off, perhaps he just didn't want to talk to her anymore, now that he had his old friends... Poe and Rey. His friends... they would know what was going on.
She wandered the halls of the old base until she found Kaydel standing at a computer. "Where's Poe?" She asked.
Kaydel smirked. "Negotiating with the locals." She said.
Rose smiled, everyone had heard the legends about the Ewok that lived on Endor. "I hope he brought 3PO with him."
Kaydel laughed. "He did... this time."
Rose laughed. "I'll talk to you later, Kaydel." She said.
The lieutenant nodded with a smile, before returning to her work.
Rose made her way through the base to the exit. She stepped outside to find Rey training with her staff. She approached her slowly. "Rey?" She asked.
Rey stopped her training and turned to look at her, she smiled. "It's good to see you up and about, Rose, Finn was worried sick about you." She said.
"He was?" Rose asked surprised.
"Of course," Rey replied. "You saved his life... and you almost died doing it."
"I couldn't let him die, I... I love him."
Rey smiled, "I know," she said. "And he loves you, he's barely left your side since we got here."
"Really?" She asked surprised again.
Rey nodded.
"Then why won't he speak to me?" She asked.
Rey looked over at Finn who was checking the equipment outside of the base for the third time that day. "I think he's afraid of his feelings... for you." She replied.
Rose nodded, shyly. "What should I do?"
"Just give him time," Rey replied.
She nodded again. "Thank you Rey." She said.
Rey smiled at her, then continued her training.
It was the next day when the First Order attacked the base. The star destroyers flew just close enough to the forest moon that they could be seen, a looming terror from the ground. TIE fighters attacked from the sky, and on the ground, shuttles landed to admit large groups of stormtroopers.
Poe led a group of fighter pilots against the TIE fighters, while Finn, Rose and Rey defended the base from the ground. Rose admired Finn for his courage, as he bravely stood against the First Order. But as she looked over at the enemy, she noticed that one of the stormtroopers had a blaster aimed at Finn and was about to fire. She leapt in front of him, taking the bullet in the chest.
She fell to the ground, her shirt stained with blood. Finn fell to his knees beside her and gently pulled her into her arms. "What happened to not sacrificing ourselves?" He asked.
"There's nothing wrong with sacrificing yourself as long as you do it for something worth dying for," she replied weakly. "Hate isn't worth dying for, but love is. You're what I love, Finn."
"I love you too, Rose, I wanted to tell you before, but I was scared."
She looked him and smiled.
He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her lips.
She reached up to touch his cheek, then her hand fell lifeless to the ground, leaving streaks of red blood on his face. "Rose?" He asked, gently cupping her face in his hands, but she was gone.
