Katherine Solo was sleeping peacefully for the first time in many months. Her twin brother, Ben often woke her up in the middle of the night to tell her about the dreadful nightmares that haunted him. But she had insisted. She loved her brother and didn't want him to bear the burden of his nightmares alone. So, she insisted that he shared them with her. She only wished that she could stop him from having the nightmares, she didn't like the thought of him being tortured in his sleep.
She felt a hand on her shoulder. She looked up to see Ben with tears in his eyes.
"Another nightmare, Ben?" She asked.
He sighed. "I'm leaving, Ren. I just wanted to say goodbye."
"Leaving? Why?"
"I can't be saved." He answered.
"No, Ben that's not true."
"Luke could save our grandfather, but he can't save me. No one can."
"No Ben... please don't." She pleaded.
"I can't stay, Katherine. Luke tried to kill me while I was sleeping."
"Just like your nightmares?" She asked, surprised.
He nodded.
She climbed out of bed and began quickly stuffing her books into her bag.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"You're not going anywhere without me." She said.
"Ren... you don't have to leave."
"I can't let you be alone." She said. "I promised mom and dad that I would protect you."
"That's funny, I made the same promise."
"Then you can't leave me." She answered.
"Fine shorty, you can come."
She smiled and threw her bag over shoulder.
Just then they heard explosions and blasters being fired outside.
Ben looked outside. "It's the First Order." He said, igniting his lightsaber.
She gasped and ignited her own blue lightsaber.
"No, stay here Ren. I don't want you to get hurt."
"I made a promise, Ben." She said fallowing him out of her hut.
They came outside to find stormtroopers slaughtering Luke's students. The twin's Skywalker blood meant that they were the strongest force users. They both knew that it was up to them to defend the academy.
Ben charged towards the main battle, but Katherine noticed that the youngest students were struggling. She had to defend them. She rushed over to stand between them and the stormtroopers.
The stormtroopers were quickly outnumbering and overwhelming the students. But they could not overcome Ben, who was every bit as powerful as his grandfather before him.
Finally, when all of the other students had fallen, they surrounded him and attempted to take his lightsaber.
Suddenly a loud menacing voice brought an end to the struggle. "Wait."
They all turned to see a tall disfigured form step out of the shuttle. It was Snoke. He came over and looked down at the boy. "Much power I sense in you." He said.
"Ben!" Katherine called.
Snoke turned to look at her. He gestured and a group of stormtroopers moved to slay her.
"Katherine!" Ben cried, and he began swinging his lightsaber madly attempting to defend his sister.
Suddenly a strange feeling came over his whole body. He looked to see that Snoke had his hand stretched out towards him, paralyzing him.
"You care about her." Snoke said. He looked over at the girl. He inhaled sharply as he sensed the truth. "She's your... sister." He said with a cruel laugh.
He reached out his hand and lifted the girl pulling her towards him. He turned her to face her brother. "Join me, boy." He said.
"No." Ben said.
"Then watch your precious sister die!"
"Wait! Don't... I'll join you. I'll do whatever you say, just don't hurt her."
"Ben... don't." She pleaded.
"I have to." He replied.
"Very good." Said Snoke, releasing his hold on Ben.
Ben moved to kneel before his new master.
"And what of you child?" Snoke asked Katherine. "Will you join me... or rot in prison?"
Katherine looked at her brother. She couldn't protect him from prison, at least if she joined them she could be with him. "I will join you, Master." She replied.
"Very good, child." Snoke said, releasing her.
She moved to kneel next to her brother.
Snoke looked at the young students. "Kill them." He ordered the stormtroopers.
"No!" Katherine cried. She and Ben had helped their uncle train the younger students. They were like little brothers and sisters to them.
Snoke turned to glare at her, but Ben was quick to intervene. "They look up to us Master." He said. "We could train them in the ways of the Dark Side. We would teach them to serve you Master."
Snoke considered for a moment. "Very well, but don't disappoint me."
"Yes, Master." They both replied, bowing their heads.
