Danger Lurks

"Yeager!" A voice growled throughout the base, echoes jumping off the walls.

"What?" Came the reply filled with emptiness. The sound travelled from the brand new X-Wing sitting in the dockyard. It shone in bright blue, red and silvery grey as the dimmed sunlight danced upon the glossy paint job. The Trooper she'd named it, after a full on blowout with Kiri Storm.

"What kind of a kriffing name is that?" Storm spat, completely unpleased. "The kind that suits this beast perfectly. It has the willpower, the skill and is just overall badass." Skyler shrugged, a glint of pride in her eyes, while patting the underbelly. "Why are you so obsessed with the clones?" Skyler threw Storm the bird, glaring dangerously at the pirate Captain. "I'm not obsessed. I honour them, share my life with them...love them. Because Captain, I grew up with them as my family on Kamino, with Obi-Wan." Storm raised an eyebrow at that, crossing her arms. "Does that mean everything has to be 'cloned'?" She air quoted with her fingers as she replied flatly. "Do you have a problem with me loving my brothers?" Skyler growled stepping closer, anger radiating off her in waves. "No. But you are so stuck to them."

That's what made Maul's throat run dry. The sudden war cry rushed to his ears like a rolling freight train. His head whipped around, his body already sprinting to the source. The scene he stumbled upon was a struggling Captain headlocked by a yellow eyed rebel, holding a knife dangerously close to her throat. "Yeager! Stop!" He grabbed her hands that dropped the knife, firmly holding it behind back. She struggled harshly in his grip, the power inside of her threatening to explode. "I'm gonna kriffing kill you!" A voice growled from the woman he was holding, but it definitely didn't sound like the Skyler he knew. "Come on Yeager, push it down. This isn't you..." Maul whispered almost desperately, as he too touched the Force and sent waves of light towards the rebel's force signature.

It could have ended very badly. She collapsed to a heap in his arms as the darkness died down. 'She possesses so much power,' he thought as he walked into the galley.

Skyler sat at a bunk, slightly bowed forward just staring at the durasteel underneath her feet with a lifeless expression.

Maul approached quietly and came to a standstill in front of her. "You alright?" He mumbled, staring down at her oddly hunched posture. She actually seemed...broken? The hardass that had the mouth of a pirate and the soul of a Mando, now sat there with nothing to show. The red Zabrak was never one to comfort, but he also wasn't the heartless Sith everyone took him for.

"I could've killed her...my friend...I-I...almost killed her," She closed her eyes as dampness settled around them.

Maul lightly placed a hand on her shoulder as he kneeled down. "It wasn't your fault, Skyler. That power was held in too long. I've waited too long. Without telling you. I am to blame." He quietly admitted. She slightly flinched at that. She surely felt like kriff, she didn't want this. Ever.

"I don't want to hurt anyone, Maul." She looked up, her eyes dull.

That could well have be Stormy, or Blitz...even Kallus. She wasn't up for this. A strange yet satisfying feeling settled in the pit of her stomach. A promise she made years ago to a dying friend.

I won't ever harm a ally. Death will then be welcomed as a friend. P-Promise...

Yes, she knew it. What did she have to lose anyway? She was going to relieve the burden.

Maul felt a chill run down his spine as he stood. Something radiated off of her. Something cold. That worried him. A whole lot.

"Please don't do something we'll all regret, Yeager." He whispered, as he slowly made his way out of the ship.

'There will be no regrets. Only another burden dropped.'
