Chapter 2
Kanan came up to the cockpit where Hera was and sat down in his co-pilot seat as she maneuvered her way through the air to lose those tie fighters. "You said this was gonna be a routine op, what happened down there?" the twi'lek asked as she maneuvered through the clouds.
Her droid, that she called Chopper, or C1-10P, beeped a few things to Kanan who just sighed and said "Not now Chop, I just had a busy day."
"He is right love, we got four tie fighters closing in on us right now," Hera stated pointing the obvious fact out as she came up above the clouds with the four tie fighters right behind her ship.
"Hera, how about a little less attitude and a little more altitude?" Kanan asked his pilot sarcastically and was rewarded with a sharp turn to the left, making him fall back in his seat hard, before turning it to the right and flying upwards.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you did that on purpose," Kanan said lightly.
"If you knew any better then we wouldn't be in the mess," Hera stated in a serious tone before continuing, "Seriously Kanan, what happened?"
"He did," he said looking at one of the cameras that was showing the young boy, they rescued, making a cast to wrap around his ankle with his own sleeves.
Esther winced at the pain as she tried to wrap her ankle again but winced even more as the pain hit her harder. She breathed in and out deeply to pass the pain but got a bit dizzy. "Need help with that?" the Mandalorien boy asked.
She looked up at him with her hooded eyes and nodded her head once in a curt form cause she still had some pride left in her. The Mandalorien sighed and came over to her before gently taking her left ankle between his hands and wrapping her shirt sleeve fabric around her bootless ankle. Esther kept slightly wincing at the pain but kept pushing it aside because this was nothing compared to what she went through years ago. Finally, he was finished and tied a soft knot to make sure the cloth doesn't go anywhere. "Thanks," Esther said quietly looking down at the floor before laying her ankle on the crate beside her.
"Don't try anything kid," Zeb warned.
(Snorts) "Like I can do anything with one leg down for the next few days," Esther remarked sarcastically before continuing, "I just want to get off this ship and go home."
"Please, nothing would please me more than tossing you off this ship while in the air," Zeb growled at her.
Esther glared back at him through her disguise before looking away and letting out an angry huff of breath.
"A kid tripped you up?" Hera asked Kanan.
"More like he was tripped up from above us and distracted the imperials himself and got himself into some trouble with us not following far behind," Kanan replied sheepishly.
"Well that must be some kid," Hera said in a sly tone before saying "Spill Kanan."
"Don't you have some flying to focus on?" Kanan asked in a bewildered tone.
"Spill," Hera said in a more serious tone.
The Ghost maneuvered and made a sharp turn to the left causing Esther to fall off the crates and crash into the Mandalorien boy. She quickly got off the boy and rolled to her right to avoid hitting her foot against the floor. "Sorry," she mumbled a bit embarrassed at that outcome.
"Eh, it's okay. Not the first time someone's fallen on me," the boy said in a smug tone making himself and Zeb laugh at that joke.
"Shut up! Why would anyone want to fall on top of a guy who's stupidity is the size of his head?!" Esther demanded in an angry tone.
"Hey! Watch your tone with me boy! Or Zeb here, is gonna place you in your own room," the Mandalorien boy snapped back at Esther, possibly glaring at her through his helmet.
(Snorts) "Whatever. I'm used to it," Esther muttered to herself as she tried to stand up on her own and keep her left foot from hitting the floor but failed and hissed at the pain again.
Breathing in deeply and letting it out in a slow manner, she put on a determined face and kept going till she finally stood up with her left leg bent up slightly to make sure that it didn't hit the floor. "Well done kid, now I'm a hundred years old," Zeb said sarcastically making the boy chuckle a bit.
Esther took a moment to observe Zeb before saying, "You don't really look like your a hundred, more like your way younger than that."
"Really, how much younger?" Zeb asks in a growling tone ready to punch this kid's lights out.
"Possibly much younger than my parents. They were over thirty," Esther replied in a nonchalant tone as a memory of what her parents looked like came up.
"Don't worry," Mira's voice echoes through her head before Ephraim's voice finishes Mira's sentence, "We'll protect you. We promise."
That was made years ago when they first..... Esther shook her head of that memory and took a deep breath in before letting it out slowly to control her emotions. She had to keep in control of them because her headband can only do so much to hold her hair in place. Suddenly, the ship jerked causing Esther to fall forward onto the floor once again with pain jerking up from her left foot again. Just before she could push herself up and off the floor, something very heavy, and smelly, landed on top of her. "Get up," she managed to wheeze out to the weight on top of her.
"I'm not that heavy in this gravity," she heard Zeb grumble next to her.
After he was able to get off of Esther, she was able to breathe properly and say "Not the gravity, the pain it causes when someone lands on your injured foot."
"Hmm, I thought you were gonna say the smell," the Mandalorien boy says in a thoughtful tone.
(Snorts) "Smelt worse, ya get used to being in the sewers for a living," Esther replied in a snarky tone.
"Well if you can handle the air quality in here, then I can arrange a room of your own that smells worse than this," Zeb said to Esther in a offended tone.
"Hey, I didn't mean to offend you in any way Zeb. I just mentioned that I smelt worse than what I can already smell from yoooouuuuuuu!!!" Esther tried to say in a reasoning tone but was grabbed from her right leg and pulled along the floor into a different room.
Zeb hauled her up roughly and threw her into the smaller room connected to the different room through a sliding door. She landed on the floor and looked up to see him press a button that slid the door shut in her face. Grimacing in anger, Esther pulled herself up and looked around for a way out cause, as far as she had figured out in her life on the streets, there was always a small vent that led to the way out. Finally finding it, she set to work on unscrewing the bolts when she heard the mans voice over the intercom of some sorts saying Zeb, Sabale, where's the kid?
So the other boy's name is Sabale? Wow, his parents were... creative, she thought to herself as she finished unscrewing the bolts and carefully took off the cover before crawling into the vent quickly and silently.
She kept moving while hearing Zeb's voice say back to the man, "Calm down chief, he's in...." before it went silent after she heard the door open.
Wow, so we have a boy who has a.... creative name and they think that I'm a boy. Not the first time that happened, Esther thought sarcastically to herself as she kept crawling through the vents to get away from that mean purple alien.
"Well, at least we know that he's still in the ship," Zeb said sheepishly after the chief's voice sounded again in a stern tone saying Zeb.
"Oh he's in the ship alright," came the Mandalorien's/Sabale's voice from below when one of her weapons accidentally hit the bottom of the vent creating a small thump sound.
Shoot! Esther cursed to herself for allowing that accident to happen.
Quickly she kept picking up the pace, until the ship rocked again causing her to fall through the vent and land into another unfamiliar room. "About time you joined us," came Sabale's voice from above her.
Looking up, she saw that he was seated in a chair that held some sort of mechanisms that was attached to a gun of sorts that was attached to the ship. Esther shook her head to clear the dizziness away and groaned as the world begin to shake. Standing up, she accidentally pushed back her hood a bit to show off her bright blue hair that was tied back inside the hood. "Wow, never seen a guy with hair like that before," Sabale said in awe before turning back to his task at hand of shooting the tie fighters blasting at them.
"Yah, well that just proves that you don't know us Lothrats very well," Esther replied in a sarcastic manner while yanking her hood back over her head to at least provide some shadow to cover the identity of her gender.
"Wow, never heard that one before," Sabale said sarcastically as he began shooting at the ties but kept missing.
"If you shoot to the left, then you might be getting somewhere," Esther said out of the blue after a few minutes.
Sabale turned to look at the boy with a distrustful face but just ignored it until he saw a tie fighter coming in from the left ready to shoot at the ghost. The calculations are complete, but we need an opening, came a woman's voice from over the intercom of sorts.
"Found one," Sabale replied back as he shot at the tie fighter on the left giving them a clear shot to enter into hyperspace.
"Names Sabale, yours?" he asked the boy in a polite tone.
The boy was silent until Sabale heard him being yanked by Zeb and heard his groveling voice say "And my name is Zeb you Lothrat!"
"That's not a first," he heard the boy say in a weirdish girly tone but figured that the boy hasn't hit puberty yet to make his voice go deep just as Hera yelled over the comn Entering hyperspace!
Hearing the mechanisms change, Esther looked towards the window and watched as the stars suddenly changed and became blue before they entered a blue changing atmosphere. She was shocked beyond belief that they could do something like this but remembered that the Empire could do something like this as well. Soon the ship was in something called hyperspace and was sailing through it very easily. Zeb roughly placed her on the ground and grabbed her by her wrist but stopped at what caught his eye.
Esther began to panick when Zeb looked at her with a weird look in his eyes almost as if he was confused for a moment. "Zeb, what is it?" Sabale asked coming over to the two before staring at Esther in confusion before it turned into shock.
She felt around her hood and was shocked that it had pulled halfway back to show off her headband that she wore around her head in a halo manner. It had been given to her by her father Ephraim to help keep her powers at bay and was also meant to show off some beauty in it to help her blend in more easily. The headband was made of lithium metal that could easily suppress her powers and was easily dyed a golden color and was molded to look like leaves strung together with a thick black string attaching both ends at the back. (Like this).
Panicking, Esther quickly said "It's from my relatives but haven't heard from them since I was a little gi...boy. So it's all I have left of them."
"Wow, so you gladly wear that headband in a girly manner to remember your relatives that you haven't heard from in years. That's about the weirdest thing I've ever seen a Lothrat do," stated Sabale in a 'I'm not convinced' tone.
"Hey! Not all Lothrat's are heartless and self-centered! Look at me, I didn't want anything to do with your stupid blasters and was just helping out the citizens of Lothal while on my own personal mission. So if you have something to say about me that's weird, say to my face and I'll shove it down your throat! Got it?!" Esther sneers towards the boy making him reel back in shock at her threat.
She just narrows her eyes and pulls her arm out of Zeb's grip before heading off towards the room she had last been in while pulling up her own hood to once more cast a shadow over her eyes and disguise her gender. That was a close one. But it won't be a secret for much longer and when the Empire finds out about my abilities, they won't stop until they find me and kill me, Esther thought sadly to herself as she sighed and remembered the day it happened when her life had changed for the worst.
