Spark of Rebellion- Part One

In the darkness of Space, a large gray ship flew through the air.

Inside of the ship, a holographic image of Darth Vader stood. "The Jedi Knights are all but destroyed," he stated, "and yet your task is not complete, Inquisitor. The Emperor has forseen a new threat rising against him: the Children of the Force. They must not become Jedi."

"Yes, Lord Vader," the Inquisitor replied. "Hunt down this new enemy," Darth Vader ordered, "and if they will not serve the Empire, eliminate them along with any surviving Jedi who will train them. This is my master's command."

"And so it will be done," the Inquisitor said calmly. The hologram disappeared.

The Inquisitor opened his eyes, revealing them to be dark red and yellow.

Far away from Lothal's Capital City, a fourteen year old boy was leaning against the railing of an abandoned communication tower.

He stared at the city for a while before a shadow fell over him. He looked up and saw an Imperial Ship flying towards the city.

He narrowed his eyes a little before he walked inside.

He started driving to the city on his speeder.

In the Capital City, two TIE fighters flew overhead. Commandant Aresko and Taskmaster Grint were standing in front of a merchant.

"Your identification. Now," Grint demanded. "I'm just trying to sell a couple jogans here," the merchant said nervously.

"All trade must be registered with the Empire," Aresko told him. The merchant looked away bitterly, "I remember what it was like before your ships showed up. Before you Imperials ruined Lothal like the rest of the Galaxy."

Aresko took out his communicator, "this is LRC-01. I'm bringing in a citizen under a charge of treason." "Copy that, LRC-01," a Stormtrooper replied, "dispatch to Cell Block AA-33."

Two Stormtroopers grabbed the merchant. "Take him away," Aresko commanded.

"You can't do this!" The merchant protested as he struggled in the Stormtroopers' grip. Grint picked up the pack of jogans and took a bite out of one.

"Oh yeah? Well who's gonna stop us?" He asked, looking towards a woman and Rodian who quickly ducked his head, "you? You?" The woman quickly looked away and he laughed. He took another bite out of the jogan.

"Hey, mister," the boy said, "a spare Jogan?" "Move along, Loth-Rat!" Grint snapped.

"Sorry, sorry, not looking for trouble," the boy said, quickly swiping Aresko's communicator from his belt. He quickly walked away and smiled.

"But it sure has a way of finding me," he said quietly as he tossed the communicator up.

"All officers to the main square! This is a code red emergency!" This caught everyone's attention. Aresko looked at the merchant, "it's your lucky day, Lothal scum." He looked at the two Stormtroopers, "you two come with us."

The Stormtroopers let go of the merchant. One pushed him to the ground and Grint threw the jogans down on the ground as they all walked away.

"Stay on alert," the boy said as he walked up to the merchant, "repeat, this is a code red." He knelt down. He set down his bag and opened it as the merchant held out a jogan to him.

"Thank you," he said. "No, thank you," the boy smiled as he took the jogan and put it in his bag, along with a few more.

"Wait," the merchant said, surprised, "wait, what are you doing?"

"Hey," the boy smiled, "a kid's gotta eat." He got up and the merchant watched in stunned confusion as the kid jumped up onto the roof of a nearby stall. He carefully walked along the roof before he jumped up onto a post on a wall and he climbed up the roof.

"Who is that kid?" The merchant wondered quietly to himself.

Ezra snuck along the roof before he peeked out and saw Aresko and Grint talking to a commander.

"Copy that. We have reached the location and we are standing by."

"What's the emergency?" Aresko asked. "Emergency?" The commander repeated in confusion.

"You called in a code red," Grint informed.

"I... I'm not sure what you mean," the commander said, even more confused, "my orders are to get these crates to the Imperial Portal."

Ezra looked over and saw Stormtroopers moving in crates.

"Well, get them loaded then!" Aresko exclaimed. Ezra chuckled to himself.

"Almost feel bad for them," he said, "almost." His smile fell when he heard a distant humming sound. It got louder for a second before it faded away.

"That was weird," he murmured quietly, "I...," he got up and he looked towards a man who was standing in the middle of the street, his back to anyone who passed him.

Ezra stared at him. The man turned his head and Ezra quickly ducked down to avoid being spotted. The man turned in his direction, looking around for a moment before he started walking.

Ezra watched him curiously as the man stopped next to a Lasat standing in an entryway and patted his leg twice. The Lasat opened his eyes and walked out of the entryway.

The man walked up beside a young woman and patted his leg twice again. The woman patted her leg three times and the two went their separate ways.

Ezra watched them curiously and smiled, "interesting."

The woman walked past a Stormtrooper and his speeder. She threw a detonator into the speeder and walked away as the Stormtrooper looked towards her and moved forward to get her but stopped, unaware of the detonator beeping faster and faster.

Then the speeder exploded and Ezra shielded his face then moved his arm and widened his eyes at the scene.

"Get those crates out of here! Keep them secure at all costs!" The commander ordered the Stormtroopers as they quickly hopped onto their speeders and drove away.

"All costs, huh?" Ezra smiled, "I like the sound of that."

The three Stormtroopers drove down an alleyway only for a much larger vehicle to move in their way and they had to skid to a stop to avoid running into it. The man smiled, "how's it going?"

He jumped out of the vehicle and kicked the first Stormtrooper out of his speeder. He took out his pistol and fired at the second Stormtrooper, knocking him down and he quickly avoided the gunfire of the last Stormtrooper.

The two fired at each other and kept missing but still kept firing.

Two more Stormstroopers, followed by three more ran down to the commotion. Ezra watched them before he smiled.

The Stormtroopers rounded the corner and the Lasat poked his head out with a smirk as he ran after them.

The Stormtroopers fired at the man as he quickly ducked behind the boxes. The other Stormtrooper looked up as the Lasat grabbed him and threw him into another Stormtrooper.

The man fired at the two remaining Stormtroopers and dodged the blaster fire. The Lasat grabbed the second Stormtrooper by the head and yanked him away.

The other Stormtrooper looked to see what happened only for his comrade to be thrown into him and they were downed.

The Lasat dusted his hands. The man got up and smiled. Ezra jumped down from the roof, swung from a wire and landed in the speeder, surprising both the man and the Lasat.

"Thanks for doing the heavy lifting," Ezra smiled as he gave a small salute and he drove the speeder backwards, quickly avoiding the Lasat who swung his fist at him. Ezra waved at them as he sped away.

The Lasat let out a small growl of frustration, "now what?" "After that kid!" The man exclaimed.

Ezra backed into the other Stormtroopers and quickly started driving away, avoiding getting grabbed by a commander. The Stormtrooper shook his head and fired his weapon but it missed as the man and the Lasat drove two other speeders with crates and knocked the Stormtrooper down before they sped after Ezra, ignoring the commander.

Ezra sped down the alleyway and the girl quickly flew from the roof and onto the crates. Ezra looked at her in surprise.

"Pretty gutsy move, kid!" She said. Ezra quickly drove the speedster to avoid crashing into anything and the girl was keeping herself steady on the second crate.

She pulled out her blaster and Ezra widened his eyes. "If the big guy catches you, he'll end you," she warned playfully as she shot at the chain connecting the last crate to the other, "good luck!"

Ezra smiled as he sped away. The girl hopped off the crate she had and quickly took it down another alleyway as the man and the Lasat drove after Ezra.

Stormtroopers quickly rounded a corner and aimed their blasters as Ezra sped towards them. He braced himself as he accelerated and the man quickly took out his blaster and fired at the Stormtroopers, taking them all out.

Ezra and his pursuers sped down the road. Ezra looked back at them, "who are these guys?" He looked ahead of himself and yelped in surprise as there were people.

He quickly avoided them as he flew up and past them.

The man and the Lasat quickly followed him all while avoiding the people.

"Who is that kid?" The man murmured. The three sped out onto the roadway and two Stormtroopers sped after them.

They started firing at the three. The man took out his pistol and fired back at the Stormtroopers. One of the blaster shots hit the speeder Ezra was on.

"That's never good!" He yelped before he flew high and onto the other lane. Once he got the control back, he quickly avoided the incoming vehicles.

The Stormtroopers kept firing at the man and the Lasat. The Lasat took out an electrifying staff and quickly moved backwards to take out the second Stormtrooper.

The first Stormtrooper looked at the man who had his hands out in front of him. "Okay, you caught me! I give up!" He said.

"What the-?" The stormtrooper said, startled. "Just kidding!" The man grinned as he tossed a detonator at the stormtrooper who quickly caught it.

The man and the Lasat sped up as the speeder and the stormtrooper exploded. Ezra glared at the two before he sped up.

The man watched him for a moment before he slowed down beside the Lasat. He made some signals at him and the Lasat almost rolled his eyes before he gave a thumbs up. The man sped up and pressed a button.

The two crates unlatched and he sped ahead to catch up with Ezra. The Lasat slowed down and put a hand on the crates, watching the man. "If Kanan catches that kid, I'm gonna end him," he grumbled.

Kanan continued to speed after Ezra before he sped up and landed in front of Ezra, causing sparks to fly in front of him.

Ezra waved his hand to avoid the sparks flying into his face. Kanan skidded to a halt.

Ezra moved his hand before he looked at Kanan. His eyes widened slightly before he quickly pulled the levers and he skidded to a halt next to Kanan.

He sighed heavily, leaning forward. He glared at Kanan, "who are you?"

"I'm the guy who was stealing that crate," Kanan replied. "Hey, look," Ezra started, "I stole this stuff... wh-whatever it is fair and square." He crossed his arms.

"And you made it pretty far," Kanan chuckled, "but I've got plans for that crate. So today's not your day."

Ezra glanced at the incoming TIE fighter before he smiled at Kanan, "day's not over."

He quickly sped away. Kanan frowned in confusion before he rolled his eyes, "oh wonderful." The TIE fighter fired at Kanan who quickly ran away and the speeder exploded.

Kanan glared at the fighter as he got up. He looked towards Ezra as he started to drive away, waving. "Have a good one!"

Kanan watched him before he shook his head with a smile. He took out his communicator and started walking, "this is Specter One. I need a lift."

Ezra sped out onto the field and the TIE fighter was flying after him. He glared at it, "whatever's in these crates must really be worth it!"

He quickly avoided a green blast that zipped past his head.

"Better be worth it!" He yelled in panic. The fighter fired at the speeder again, this time striking the target and it exploded. It sent Ezra flying and tumbling into the grass.

He pushed himself to his feet and looked at the burning wreckage of the speeder. The crate was still there.

He looked back at the fighter as it flew at him. Ezra watched nervously. It got closer only for blaster shots to hit it and it exploded. Ezra shielded his face before he turned and saw Kanan standing aboard a ship near the latch.

"You want a ride?" He asked. Ezra stared at him before he looked towards the incoming TIE fighters. He looked back at Kanan.

"Kid, you have a better option?" He asked, "come on!"

Ezra quickly turned and ran up to the crate. "Leave the crate, you'll never make it!" Kanan told him.

Ezra pressed a button and he started to push it towards the ship. The TIE fighters fired at him but missed.

Ezra leapt high up and the crate landed on the ship.

"Whoa," Kanan murmured. Ezra climbed up onto the ship and he pushed the crate. Kanan hurried over to help and the two got the crate inside. The latch closed and the ship sped up.

Ezra looked up at Kanan and the other two. The Lasat, Zeb, took the top off the crate, revealing a whole bunch of blasters. Ezra widened his eyes as he got up and walked over to the crate.

"Whoa," he said, "do you have any idea what these are worth on the Black Market?" He picked one up.

"I do actually," Kanan replied. Zeb glared at Ezra, "don't get any ideas." "They're mine," Ezra replied and the Lasat snatched the blaster from Ezra's hands.

"If you hadn't have gotten in our way," he growled. Ezra glared at him, almost getting in his face, "too bad. I got to them first."

Kanan quickly and lightly pushed Ezra away from Zeb, "it's not who's first, it's who's last."

Ezra looked at him in surprise before he glared at Zeb. "Keep an eye on him," Kanan said to Zeb and Sabine.

As Kanan entered the cockpit, there was a Twi'lek and a girl piloting the ship.

Hera Syndulla was at the helm while her droid C1-10P, better known as Chopper, was at her heels. The girl, Peyton Kelly, was pressing some buttons and she looked at Kanan.

"You said this was a routine op," she said, "what happened down there?"

Chopper buzzed and grumbled at Kanan. The man sighed, "Chopper, please, it's been a difficult morning."

"He has a point, love," Hera said, "we've got four TIE fighters closing in."

The Ghost flew above the clouds and dodged the blaster fire from the TIE fighters.

"Hera, how about a little less attitude and a little more altitude?" Kanan huffed. Hera suddenly spun the ship around, causing Kanan to fall against the wall.

Peyton laughed. He glared at her before he looked back at Hera, "if I didn't know better, I'd think you did that on purpose."

"If you knew better, we wouldn't be in this situation," Hera shot back, "seriously, Kanan, what happened?"

Kanan stared at her before he looked at the cameras. "He did," he said. Peyton followed his gaze and her eyes widened. "Ezra?" She murmured.

"Look, I was just doing the same thing you were," Ezra said, "stealing to survive." "You have no idea what we were doing!" Zeb retorted, "you don't know us!"

"And I don't want to!" Ezra shot back as he got up off the crate, "I just want off this burner." "Please," Zeb said, leaning closer to Ezra, "nothing would thrill me more than tossing you out while in flight."

"A kid tripped you up?!" Hera exclaimed, surprised and amused, "must be some kid. Spill it!"

"Aren't you a little busy at the moment?" Kanan huffed, crossing his arms.

"Spill," Hera said shortly. "Kanan, take the wheel," Peyton said.

"Wha- whoa!" Kanan nearly yelped as Peyton jumped out of the seat and she hurried out of the cockpit. Kanan quickly got into the seat.

The Ghost dodged a few blaster shots except one that hit the wing. The ship jolted violently, causing Sabine, Ezra and Zeb to stumble.

Ezra grunted as Zeb fell on him. "Get off!" He groaned, "can't... breathe!"

Zeb glared at him offensively, "I'm not that heavy in this gravity!"

"It's not the weight," Ezra sighed then groaned, "it's the smell."

Zeb widened his eyes before he narrowed them, "you don't like the air quality in here, ey? Fine! I'll give you your own room." He grabbed Ezra by his ankle and yanked him onto the ground.

"H-hey! Stop!" Ezra yelped. A door to a small space opened.

"Let go!" Ezra exclaimed and Zeb threw him into it. The door slid closed.

"Kid sounds impressive," Hera commented. Kanan looked at her suspiciously, "you're not thinking what I think you're thinking."

"He held onto a crate of blasters with a pack of troopers on his tail," she smiled, "plus Peyton knows him."

"It's because I was there to save him," Kanan huffed, "and we don't know him. He's a street rat. Wild, reckless, dangerous and...," he looked at the cameras and blinked, "gone? Sabine, Zeb, where's the kid?"

"Calm down, chief," Zeb replied, "he's in-" the door opened and the room was empty. "Uh, here," he said, rubbing his head.

"ZEB!" Peyton shouted angrily and the Lasat winced. Sabine placed her hands on her hips as she shook her head at Zeb. They saw a vent that was opened.

"Zeb, where is he?" Kanan demanded. Ezra crawled through the vent.

"Well... he is still on the ship," Zeb replied. Then they looked at the ceiling as they heard muffled, metallic thuds and thumps.

"Oh he's in the ship alright," Sabine said, amused. "Very creative," Hera smirked, "sounds like someone I used to know."

Kanan groaned as he got up from his seat. Peyton shook her head with a smile before she clapped rhythmically.

Ezra perked up, surprise rippling through his chest. He'd know that rhythm anywhere. He rhythmically patted the metal underneath him twice and yelped when he fell on the floor.

Peyton looked at him and smiled, "took you long enough, supernova."

Ezra looked at her in shock and relief, "Peyton?" He got up and looked at the window before his eyes widened.

"I'm... I'm in space," he said with an amazed smile. The TIE fighters fired at the Ghost.

"And I'm about to die!" He exclaimed. "No we're not!" Peyton huffed as she took a hold of the controllers.

"Shields are holding for now, but you need to buy me time to calculate the jump to light speed," Hera said firmly. "Buying time!" Kanan replied, "now!" He started firing at the TIE fighters. He managed to hit one and it exploded.

"Whoa," Ezra gasped. He yelped as Sabine grabbed him and yanked him away from the seat. He looked at her and she removed her helmet.

"Hey, my name's Ezra," he smiled, "what's yours?" Peyton rolled her eyes, so did Sabine.

Zeb grabbed Ezra and glared at him, "my name's Zeb, you Loth-rat."

"Drop him," Peyton growled, glaring at the Lasat who quickly dropped Ezra who yelped as he hit the ground. He glared at the Lasat.

"Calculations complete but we need an opening!" Hera called out.

Peyton closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Sabine, Ezra and Zeb looked at her.

The TIE fighters were closing in.

Then she opened her eyes and fired at the TIE fighters. They exploded and the Ghost flew forward. Ezra looked at Peyton, "how did you do that, Peyt?"

"You know this kid?" Zeb demanded. "Yes. I do," Peyton said sternly before she looked at Ezra, "he's my best friend and my adoptive little brother."

"Entering hyperspace!" Hera said and a second later they did. As the stars began to streak, Peyton smiled.

"I've missed this." She sighed.

Back in Lothal, troopers were inspecting, as the commanding officer and officer were on a roof overlooking the area.

"They knew our protocol and were waiting." he informed him, and the commanding officer nodded at him.

"I have no doubt, you're not the first on Lothal hit by this crew," he informed him, making the officer sigh.

"That's a relief. I mean, I assume that's why you're here, Agent Kallus," he said and the agent took off his helmet and turns to him.

"The Imperial Security Bureau pays attention to patterns.
When the Empire's operations are targeted on ongoing bases, it signifies something more than the theft of a few crates. It could signify the spark of rebellion." he stated, "next time they make a move, we'll be waiting for them to snuff out that spark before it catches fire."

Peyton walked into the cockpit with Zeb dragging Ezra.

"Let go, you can't keep me here! Take me back to Lothal!" Ezra demanded as Zeb released him. Peyton crossed her arms as she looked at him.

"Calm down, that's exactly what we're doing." Hera said, stopping Zeb from making a retort.

"Wait, right now!? With Imperials chasing us!?" Ezra cried.

"We lost the TIEs when we jumped and the Ghost can scramble its signiture so they won't recognize us when we return." Hera explained.

"Aw, that's pretty cool." Ezra admitted. "So just drop off me, Peyton and my blasters outside Captial City and-"

"They're not your blasters." Sabine said as she and Kanan entered the cockpit.

"And we're not going back to Capital City," Peyton said, "our job isn't done yet." "You still haven't answered my question, Peyton!" Zeb exclaimed.

The ship went back to Lothal and landed in a field.

While Ezra, Peyton, Zeb and Sabine went in one direction, Hera and Kanan headed in another.

"Hey, where are they going?" Ezra asked.

"If I told you, I'd have to kill you." Zeb whispered, "Oh, and I might just kill you. Ow!" He flinched as Peyton kicked him in the shin.

"Grab a crate, pull your weight." Sabine said as she, Zeb and Peyton, already pushing crates, headed down. As she passed Ezra, Peyton whispered, "now you get to see where I disappear to every day."

As the four walked through the town, Ezra said, "lived on Lothal my whole life, never been here."

"The Imperials don't advertise it." Sabine stated.

"Locals call it Tarkintown." Zeb explained.

"Named for Grand Moff Tarkin, governor of the Outer Rim." Peyton added, "He kicked these folks off their farm when the Empire wanted their land."

"Anybody who tried to fight back got arrested." Zeb said, "For treason."

"Who wants free grub?" He asked as they stood in front of the open gates.

People slowly came over and began to thank them for the food. Some of them even recognized Peyton from her various trips there. She just smiled softly and gave them the food they needed.

"You come here often?" Sabine asked after a while.

"Whenever Ezra and I got some food, I always take some extra for the people here or I help out the merchants, Ezra tells them to help those who need the food more than me." Peyton explained, looking down at the ground with a soft smile on her lips. Helping people was one of her favorite things to do in the whole galaxy and it was something she tried to do every day. Sabine smiled softly, "that's pretty nice of you."

"Thanks." Peyton smiled back. She sighed softly and looked over at Ezra.

"Our families were best friends. We grew up together, him, me, and my sister Bernette," she explained, "but... a lot of things happened. My sister and I were separated and my mother was killed." Her grip tightened on the locket, "before she died, my mother made me promise to help those in need. And I promised Ezra that he was never alone, no matter how far away I would be."

After a while, Peyton walked into the ship and she heard the humming sound. She smiled as she climbed up the ladder and she walked over to Kanan's room.

She had her fair share of sharing rooms with Ezra during their childhood.

She hummed softly as the door opened and Ezra nearly yelped as he almost dropped the cylinder he was holding.

"You shouldn't be in here," she said. "Hey, believe it or not, it was calling me here," he protested. He pressed a button and he activated the lightsaber.

Peyton chuckled slightly, "called you here, huh? That's Kanan's lightsaber." "Lightsaber?" Ezra repeated, "wait... isn't that the weapon of the Jedi? Do you have one?"

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't, supernova," she smiled. He softly glared at her and swung it around a bit. He gazed at it in amazement and wonder. Peyton watched him.

She knew that the lightsaber was calling him but she wasn't going to say it out loud. She wanted Ezra to know it on his own.

The door opened and they looked over at Kanan. "Careful... you'll cut your arm off," he said to Ezra. Peyton looked at Chopper and growled.

"Snitch," she huffed. Hera gave her a look, "Peyton." "I know, I know," she sighed, "I should be keeping an eye on him but in my defense, he was curious."

"Traitor," Ezra huffed. "Give it to me," Kanan said sternly, "and get out."

Deactivating the lightsaber, Ezra walked over and placed it in Kanan's hand before he walked out of the room.

Peyton walked up beside Kanan and Hera as he clipped the hilt to his belt.

"Now we'll see," he said.

Ezra walked into the kitchen. Sabine looked at him, "not too good at following directions, are you?"

He rubbed the back of his neck. "Not so much. You?" He asked and she laughed slightly.

"Never been my specialty," she said. Ezra leaned against the counter.

"So who are you people? I mean, you're not thieves exactly," he stated.

"We're not exactly anything," she said, "we're a crew. A team. In some ways, a family."

Ezra looked away sadly. Sabine stared at him.

"Wh-what happened to your real family?" He asked. "Empire," she answered, looking away for a short moment before she looked back at Ezra, "what happened to yours?"

Before he could answer, the door opened and the two looked over to see Zeb and Chopper.

"Kanan wants us in the common room," Zeb said and he looked at Chopper, gesturing to Ezra, "if he tries anything, sound the alarm or shoot him."

Chopper whined at the Lasat who shushed him. "Just watch him," he huffed before he walked out of the room. Sabine walked over to the entrance before she paused and she looked at Ezra, "Sabine. My name's Sabine."

He smiled at her and she returned the smile before she walked out of the room.

Peyton walked out of her room and she saw Chopper racing past. She raised an eyebrow before she made a beeline for the common room.

When she got there, she saw Ezra on the ground and the rest of the crew staring at him. She sighed, "Ezra, what did you do?"

"Nothing!" Ezra exclaimed. She raised an eyebrow, "I don't believe that for even a second." She got between him and Zeb as the Lasat snarled.

"Can we please get rid of him?" He growled.

"Try as you might, Zeb, you're not doing it," Peyton huffed.

Sabine said, "No, we can't." Ezra began to smile until Sabine added, "The kid knows too much."

"We don't have time to take him home, anyway. We have to move now." Hera said as she helped Ezra up and led him and Peyton to the cockpit. "Peyton and I will keep an eye on him."

"Properly, this time," Peyton nodded in agreement and followed the pilot up the ladder.

"You know, this whole mission thing is nuts." Ezra commented as the three sat in the cockpit, Hera in the pilot seat, Ezra next to her and Peyton behind him. "I'm not against sticking it to the Empire but there's no way I'd stick my neck out this far. Who does that?"

"We do." Hera answered honestly. Ezra was silent after that and Peyton continued in her own silence, something Ezra was used to after years of knowing her. The Ghost came out of hyperspace and approached the ship they were directed to.

"Imperial transport 651," Hera said, "this is Starbird coming inbound."

"State your business." A man's voice requested.

"Bounty." Hera explained, "We've captured an additional Wookie prisonor and have transfer orders to place him with you."

"We have no such orders." The man said. The ship deployed TIE fighters.

"That's fine." Hera said calmly, "We already got paid by Governor Tarkin. If you don't want to oversize monong, I'll jettison here, let you explain to your superiors why the Empire has one less slave." There was silence on the other end until the man finally said,

"Permission to dock. Bay 1." Hera smiled while Ezra looked away and Peyton gave the pilot a thumbs up and a smile of her own.

"No troopers." Kanan said through his comm, "Security's soft." The transmission was suddenly overcome with static.

"Spectre 1, come in." Hera said, growing concerned. "Spectre 4? Spectre 5? Ahh, comm's down. No, not down. Jammed."

"Something's coming." Ezra whispered. Peyton stood up, concern growing on her hidden face. The three looked up as a Star Destroyer came out of hyperspace.

"Oh no..." Peyton whispered.

"That's an Imperial Star Destroyer!" Hera said.

"This whole thing was a set-up!" Ezra cried.

"It's beginning to look that way." Hera agreed. Hera turned to Ezra, "you need to board the transport and warn them."

"What? Why don't you do it?" Ezra asked.

"I need to be ready to take off or none of us stands a chance." Hera explained.

"Peyt?" Ezra asked. Peyton shook her head.

"I need to pay closer attention to everything so we can avoid something like this again." She said vaguely, "You have to go, Ezra."

"No, no way." Ezra protested, "Why would I risk my life for a bunch of strangers?"

"Because Kanan risked his for you!" Hera argued, "If all you do is fight for your own life, then your life means nothing! They need you, Ezra, they need you right now."
