Zero Hour spoilers

Mart ran though the disorganized fleet that was touched down on Yavin 4. Supplies were being unloaded and the rebels started to make progress on their new base, slowly but surely they would make it as great as Chopper Base once was.

"Uncle Jun!" Mart yelled, runing through crates. "Uncle Jun!"

Worry was growing in the young boy's chest. He has to be here.

"Uncle Jun!" He yelled again, louder causing his voice to crack. "Uncle Jun!"

Hera's heart plummeted when she heard Mart faintly in the distance. She walked closer to the boy, who was now pacing back in forth in front of a row of crates.

"Uncle Jun!!!" He yelled out one last time before sitting down on one of the crates, defeated.

Hera noticed people's pitying glances cast Mart's way, but no one seemed to want to tell the boy the bad news.

Someone has to tell him. She thought, looking at him, not being able to fathom the sadness he would feel when he knew. It's the right thing to do. Hera slowly made her way from landing pad to Mart's crate.

He looked up as he heard her footsteps approaching. "Hey Captain Syndulla." He said, half-heartedly.

"Mart, do you know what happened to you uncle?" She started, hoping he already knew.

"No, it was all so fast. The troops, the ships, the blasts and then before I had a chance to think about something other than not dying we end up here on Yavin 4 and I can't find Uncle Jun." He said, Hera could tell he was losing hope, guessing his only living family's fate. "He's dead isn't he?"

"I'm so sorry Mart." Hera answered, not able to meet Mart's eyes. "He is."

Mart let out a strangled sort of sob and Hera eyes widened as Mart pulled her into a hug. He then started silently crying on her shoulder. "He's....g-g-gone." Mart mumbled, voice cracking again.

She nodded and put her arms around a boy she barely knew, but knowing she had to comfort him.

A few moments pasted just them sitting in silence as everyone else continued to unpack, then Mart spoke up again "How did he die?"

Hera gave a sad smile, remembering his sacrifice, hoping this would cheer him up a bit. "Commander Sato sacrificed himself and his ship up to destroy one of the interdictor cruisers that prevented us from jumping to hyperspace and escaping. Both of the ships collided and went up in flames allowing Ezra and Chopper to jump to hyperspace and gather reinforcements, therefore saving all of our lives and many of our ships." She gestured to all the people around them. "Your uncle sacrificed himself for all of us, for you Mart to have a tomorrow even if he didn't get one himself."

"That's Uncle Jun." He gave a sad laugh. "Always saving the day." He pulling away from Hera and wiped his face on his sleeve. "I just wish he was here."

"I know." Hera replied, remembering her own mother and family she had lost. "But it'll get better in time. It's hard, but it'll get better."

"Thanks Captain Syndulla." Mart said, getting up.

"You can call me Hera." She offered as the boy began to walk away back to his friends, wherever they were on the new base.

"Thanks Hera." He smiled, tears still brimming his eyes and walked off though the base.

Hera sighed and got up as well. She then went back to helping the rebels fix up their new base.

"My uncle saved you all." She heard Mart faintly bragging in the distance.

I felt as if Mart needed to know how and why his Uncle died.
