Sabine woke up with a jolt in her cell.
"Someone's up I see." Maul hissed from the cell door.
"What do you want?" Sabine asked annoyed as she swung her legs over the bed and sat up, facing Maul.
"Just wanted to make sure you were alive that's all." He answered.
"If you wanted me dead you would of done it." Sabine said her voice steady, but she didn't dare get up, her legs were shaking hard and she didn't trust they would hold her up. She was glad for the dim lit cell so Maul couldn't see.
"If I wanted you dead you would already be, but you are the daughter of a well respected and well known clan and you are the person that found Bo-Katan and put her in power and you are also the person that helped me kill her. Maybe I'm sentimental for you or I'm just going insane. Do you know who has my darksaber?"
"It's not yours."
"According to mandolorian tradition you must win it by combat, I believe if you would of fought me, you would of lost. You simply stole it."
Sabine glared at him. Maul can say that all he wants and it's true but that doesn't matter anymore. That's the past.
"Why have you come? Just leave me to rot I don't want anything you are going to ask." Sabine countered.
"Oh I don't want you my apprentice does." Maul said and grinned. "Your time is up, I don't need you alive anymore."
"Fine have him kill me, you already got what you wanted, long ago but why did you keep me alive this long? Was it just to make me suffer."
"You're smart, such a waste but that's only half of it." Maul said. "But I promised my apprentice, anything you want to say before I leave you two alone?"
"No I'm not giving you the satisfaction."
"Goodbye Sabine Wren, it was great getting to know you." Maul said and walked out of her eye sight down the hallway away from her cell.
She sat for a while alone to her thoughts. Thought about how she gave herself up to save her family, how she gave herself up to save the Ghost crew, how she gave herself up to maybe get Ezra back, how Maul tricked her into helping him take out Bo-Katan, how she put Mandolore at war with itself because of it. I do deserve to die. She finally came to the conclusion. It would end all these thoughts, all my pain and my regret for the past. I don't have much of a choice.
She heard faintly a door open and footsteps walk her way. So this is how it ends in the hands of an old friend and past mistakes.
"Ezra." She whispered him name down the hallway.
"Hello again Sabine, long time no see." He answered, standing in front of her cell, putting his hands on the bars, staring into her eyes.
"It's been a long time and since then we have both done things we regret." Sabine told him.
"The only thing that I regret is that you are still alive." He answered, hate filling his voice.
"I've done wrong and I do accept my fate Ezra." Sabine said. "But the question is do you?"
The bars disappeared as Ezra hit a button on a wall. "I accept my fate Sabine and I'm embracing it. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be here now."
"Get it over with then, make it fast please." Sabine said, closing her eyes as she heard a blade ignite.
"I might be a monster but I would rather fight you to the death than kill you unarmed." He said and felt something being pressed into her hand. She opened her eyes and realized it was another lightsaber. "I know you can fight with it."
He stood back and took ready position.
She reluctantly tried to remember the lessons with Ezra and Kanan so long ago and ignited the blade.
"Ezra, walk her through the forms."
"Okay, ready position."
"Ready position?"
"Okay, great. Yeah, that's ready position. Now we go one, two. Hey, slow down, all right? You're not gonna learn this in one day. Ready. One two three."
"I know I'm going to lose." She answered, coldly.
"I know too." He said and the blades met with a clang.
They started to fight red blade against red blade. The only light coming from their sabers and the dim lightbulb above.
"One two three."
Sabine managed to block all the strikes Ezra was throwing her way but she was on the defensive and losing ground fast. I'm going to die.
"One two three."
The sabers clashed again and again, their sabers hitting the walls leaving marks, burning.
"One two three."
Ezra came down hard on the next strike and Sabine was thrown with the force back up against the wall.
"One two three."
Ezra took her saber hand in his empty one and held it up again the wall the red blade blazing.
"One two three."
They were both breathing hard, Sabine now back against the wall, her hand pinned to the wall by Ezra's hand.
"I hate you." He said, though gritted teeth. "I hate you."
"You have the right too after all the things I've done." Sabine took in a breath as she felt the lightsaber stab though her chest, the saber she was holding feel out of her grip, helplessly to the ground. "I deserve this."
"One two three."
Ezra stared into her eyes and felt her blood run down onto the ground and under his feet. She smiled back at him. "You deserve to hate me."
Her eyes rolled back into her head and her heart stopped beating. Ezra let her go and she feel into the ground, dead, lifeless, limp.
After a few moments Ezra's breathing steadied and he looked down at his hands covered in her blood and at the lifeless body on the floor.
"I don't hate you for what you did. I hate you for who you are to me." Ezra whispered in the cell, too late for her to here it.
Too late to go back.
