Chapter 3

Era was then dragged painfully to the cockpit, by the arm, yelling at Zeb to let her go. They finally arrived at the cockpit with Era yelling "Let me go! You can't keep me here! Take me back to Lothal!"

"Calm down, that's exactly what we're doing," the Twi'lek captain said pressing a few buttons as she continued to steer the ship towards Lothal.

"Wait, right now? With Imperial Tie's chasing us?!" Era asked bewildered at such a thing being done while Zeb crossed his arms and put a frown on his face.

She remembered during her times in Lothal's underground sours to loose the Stormtroopers but had to wait out the entire day before they got bored with her and left her alone. "We lost the Ties when we jumped and the Ghost can scramble it's signature so they won't recognize us when we return," the Twi'lek captain replied drawing Era out of her thoughts and onto the situation she was still in.

"Wow, that's pretty cool. So all you guys have to do is drop me off at Capital city and.....," Era said in amazement before turning serious and ready to head home before the door opened to interrupt her with Sebil saying, "We can't drop you off yet," as he stood on the other side of the open door with Kanan behind him.

"And we're not going back to Capital City, jobs not done yet," Kanan said making Era frown at his statement.

When the Ghost landed on the outerskirts of Lothal's plainfield, the ramp lowered itself to allow the crew to push their cargo out into the open and go into two separate directions. Sebil and Zeb went in one direction towards Tarkintown and Kanan and Hera went in another direction unfamiliar to her. "Where are they going?" Era asked curiously as she watched Kanan and Hera disappear with the three purple crates.

"If I told you then I might just have to kill you and I probably will," Zeb responded as he pushed one of the orangish-brown crates, not scaring Era since she received worse threats out on the streets.

"Grab a crate and pull your weight," Sebil said pushing a crate towards Tarkintown with Zeb leaving the third crate for Era to push.

Wasting no time, Era got the last crate and quickly pushed it towards the town to catch up with the two to see what was going on. She eventually caught up with the two and said, "Been here a couple of times to help the people out, never actually found out why it was here or what it was for."

"Why'd you not come back?" Sebil asked curiously.

"Tried giving some of the rations of food, that I have been gaining from helping the citizens of Lothal out, to the people here but it was never enough to please them all. Felt like I was failing them and myself," Era responded with a sad look in her eyes.

"Hey, a little help is better than nothing, it should've made you feel better to help those out," Sebil said as the three of them stopped a few miles out from the town to talk.

"But I felt like a failure in not being able to do more for them, I felt like I failed them in not being able to provide for their hunger needs. I did try but..." Era said trailing off not able to form the words.

"But?" Zeb asked urging her to continue.

"But I learned from during my days on the streets that trying only leads to failing due to the fact that whenever I tried to figure some stuff out, it failed," Era said not wanting to give away the real reason why she often tried something.

"Trying may seem like failing my friend, but it's often better than doing nothing and letting the Empire do whatever it wants and get their way," Sebil said wisely as they resumed walking towards Tarkintown.

"So what's this town for and why has anyone ever heard of this town?" Why have I never heard anything about his town? Era thought to herself while she asked the first question outloud.

"The Imperials don't advertise it," Sebil responded while letting Zeb take over as they continued walking through the town towards the middle it.

"The locals call it Tarkintown," Zeb continued as they moved onwards to let Sebil continue.

"Named after Grand Moff Tarkin, Governor of the Outer Rim. He kicked these people off their farms when the Empire wanted it," Sebil explained making Era's eyes widen in horror of the awful things the Empire did to these poor people.

"Anybody who tried to fight back got arrested. For treason," Zeb said angrily saying the last two words as if he witnessed something the Empire did himself.

Soon, they made it to the middle of the town and settled their crates down. Zeb gained the town's attention by yelling "Who wants some free grub?" before the three of them all removed the lids to reveal all sorts of food that the people could eat.

A Rodian came by her crate and took one of its fruit out before placing a grateful hand on her left shoulder while saying "Thank you! Thank you so much!" before leaving her alone.

"I didn't do anything," she muttered to herself before leaving the town.

She sat down on the crate lid and placed her hand on the side of her face while sighing and looking upon the village. It was true Era had tried to do something while out on the streets but it took a turn for the worse and had nearly gotten her caught in the process. Era had then given up on finding out what she wanted to know and had decided to help those who were trying to find their way to making a living on the streets. Often a lot, Era had led the Imperials on a wild goose-chase to lead them away from the victims, that were about to be taken away for ridiculous treason crimes they never committed, to teach them a lesson.

Feeling something behind her, Era snapped out of her revere and turned behind her to see nothing there. Confused, she looked around for anybody that might be around her and stood up before heading inside the ship to see if there was a clue to what this feeling was. Soon, she came to a stop in front of a cabin door and began to concentrate on her 'instinct' not even realizing that a droid had saw her and wheeled off. Finally, her 'instinct' allowed her to be transported inside the cabin to see nothing but a bunk bed and a couple of drawers on the two opposite walls.

Looking around, Era decided to sit on the bed and think on what in the world she was thinking when she felt a feeling of something underneath the bed. Knowing she didn't have another choice, she got off the bed and knelt down to see what she was looking for. Feeling around, Era stumbled upon a hidden drawer and pulled it open to discover a golden cube object inside. She took it out and observed it before placing it into her makeshift cast, for some observations later, and took a look inside the drawer to see what else she could discover in this secret drawer. Era was then shocked at her next discovery of a long cylindrical device in the back of the drawer before calming down and pulling the device out to take a look at it.

She inspected it all over before curiously pressing a button, on its right side, activating a long blue blade that made a humming noise that seemed to speak to her. Gaping at it in awe, Era barely heard the sound of the door opening behind her before she heard the chief say "Hey, be careful with that. You could cut your arm off with that."

Jumping a bit, Era almost dropped it before catching it so quickly that she felt like they didn't notice that she almost dropped it. Deactivating it, she turned around and saw a droid there that beeped something at her that triggered something making her close her eyes to see:

A man and a woman run from a temple on fire with a baby in the woman's arms.

Before opening her eyes and shaking her head to clear her vision. "You okay kid?" the Twi'lek asked in concern.

"Yah, it's probably just another....stupid headache coming on. It's common in street rats these days on Lothal," Era simply said after a hesitation in what she was about to say.

"Are you sure? We might have some medicine to help with that," the Twi'lek offered politely but Era just shook her head saying "No thank you. Besides, it's natural and I have to learn how to do live with life the hard way."

She held out the device and gave it to the chief saying "Sorry," before heading out of the cabin room and walking to wherever she might wish to be on this ship right now. "Now, we wait," Kanan said after he untwisted the lightsaber and placed both pieces on either side of his belt and watched as young Era left with Hera turning to watch after young Era with a concerned look on her face as Era seems to be hiding something from them but couldn't figure out what. She just hoped that when the time was right, the young child will open up to them and say what has happened to in the past that has caused her to act the way she does.
