Obi-Wan Kenobi

You smoothed your dress as you stared into the mirror. Being a senator for Naboo was easy enough, until last year when Padme came and told the representing woman of your district that you were to be at the Coruscant meetings from now on. The people of Naboo needed as many voices in their favor as possible. You were fine with it now but early on, you hardly knew anything when it came to handling attacks and protecting yourself.

You had no idea how many small attacks frequented the Coruscant Senate meeting house until you attended regularly. They freaked you out and you had to be accompanied by a guard constantly. However, now you were confident in your self-defense skills thanks to the various classes you quickly signed up for after an alarmingly close call with some unsavory bounty hunters. Yet Padme was instant all her delegates had stationed guards with them at all times. It drove you insane, but you used them to do things for you, as selfish as that seemed. You felt bad at how pointless their role was so you figured an errand or two would help them feel useful.

Here you were, getting ready for the first meeting of the voting sessions and you have yet to hear your guard arrive. Perhaps the senator changed her mind. You picked up a large hairpiece and placed it on your head. You reassured yourself it was securely placed and that your hidden knives wouldn't go flying off with a turn of your head and stick into someone. You giggled. How morbidly unfortunate if that happened.

You were just about to leave your suite for an orientation speech when you heard the lift to your room hum to life. You froze. Padme usually sends a message saying the guard is on the lower floor waiting. They aren't permitted to the upper floors without specified orders. And you knew you had no close friends here who would want to visit, especially without calling ahead. Therefore, you grabbed a few of those small throwing knives and stuck them in between your knuckles. You hid next to the lift, your back to the wall and your eyes on the reflection on the window in front of the doors. That way you could see the intruder. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, letting it out with a huff. This is why you wished all lifts were made of glass.

But as the lift came to a stop and the doors opened your heart jumped.

You knew the unexpected visitor.

You knew him very well.

Swiftly you dropped your knives into a potted plant behind you before wiping your nervously sweating hands on your dress. You backed into a side room so you didn't look so suspicious being so close to the lift doors.

Obi-Wan Kenobi had his hands folded in front of him as he stepped out of the lift. It was odd not having Anakin with him however it was a pleasant break from the norm. When Padme approached him on the request of looking after one of her close delegation members he felt hard-pressed to say yes. Guards were spread thin as it was so he didn't let not knowing who his assigned delegate stop him from helping out a friend.

The moment he stepped into the room he felt a presence he did not think he would feel again in a long time, if ever. He closed his eyes and took a breath. One never really knows how to react to seeing one's lover again after so many years and when it was near impossible to stop forbidden feelings. Opening his eyes slowly, Obi-Wan looked around and called out, his voice almost giving out on him.

"Senator (L/n)?"

You closed your eyes and let his voice wash over you before you stepped out of the side room. "Obi-Wan Kenobi." You cursed your heart for fluttering after uttering his name. This may be a problem if he is going to be attending this meeting.

Your voice made him turn and he couldn't help but smile. You came forward and greeted him with your own smile and a slight bow. You took another step forward to get a good look at him.

"Who would have thought that little Obi-wan would become a Jedi." You saw the lack of Padawan braid and your smile grew. "And a Knight at that." Good heavens he was attractive when he smiled in response.

Obi-Wan chuckled, moving his hands behind him to stop himself from reaching out and taking your hand. "I am not the only one who has changed." You were far more beautiful than his poor mind could remember. "The position of a senator seems to suit you. I assume you are well?" His blue eyes peered into your (e/c) ones, momentarily distracting him.

You nod once and look around your suite. "I am doing well enough. Though I do find myself itching to go run in the tall grass and throw mud at unsuspecting passersby."

The two of you laughed a bit at your mention of how the two of you first became fast friends. Obi-Wan searched your face and let his heart go for a moment. He missed you. Most ardently. Before, when he was younger and you had left for good, he chastised himself for not telling you he was a padawan but now he was glad he kept that to himself. The two of you shared his most treasured memories of childhood and growing up. Even then, he needed to hold back his feelings more than once.

You cocked your head to the side and smiled. "And yet it seems you are still all the same. A beard does not a man make, especially when they stare."

Obi-Wan blinked and smiled shyly as he turned to look around the room. "It looks as though I will be accompanying you tonight." He fidgeted with his hands in his long cloak sleeves. He really needed to reign in his thoughts and feelings.

You smirked at successfully making him uncomfortable. "So it seems. I have all that I need with me." You ventured a wink once he turned to you. "I usually make my guards carry things but it looks as though fate is in your favor." You turned to enter the lift.

Obi-Wan smiled at your back. "So it seems."

The two of you stood silently in the lift, both of you debating if it was wise to stand any closer. The two of you were unceremoniously pulled apart right as your hearts were molding and becoming attached. You both never healed and never wanted to. Such decisions made this sudden reunion a curse and a blessing.

Your heart beat wildly at his closeness and you clenched your fist in a sudden wave of anger. Why him? Of all men, it had to be him. The one man I vowed to love forever at a young age was suddenly thrown into my path once more after I had to endure years of nursing a wounded heart when I was yanked away from him unwillingly. How could fate tempt me with such cruel bait?

Obi-Wan felt a shift in the Force. Anger suddenly swelled from next to him but when he glanced at you; you looked perfectly fine. He closed his eyes and decided to take after his padawan for a moment. Reaching out, Obi-Wan took your hand in his, feeling your anger suddenly slip away but not before washing over him as well. Ah yes. With just a simple touch he knew what was angering you and rightfully so. If not for his training he would be reacting the same way.

You looked over at him and he sent you a small smile. You glanced down at your intertwined hands. Perhaps it is time to close this chapter in your life and move on. As much as you hated the idea of losing him again, it would be pure torture to live a life loving a man who could never be yours.

Obi-Wan gave your hand a squeeze making you nearly jump. It was as if he had read your thoughts and knew you needed a bit of comfort, for that's what it felt like. You then remember he is, in fact, a Jedi, and Jedi are known to feel the emotions of those around them. Curse your reactive thoughts.

But your heart fluttered.

Perhaps it was alright to live in the moment. For now.

Obi-Wan smirked to himself when he felt you relax. Glancing at you, he found himself almost giddy to be next to you again. "(Y/n),"

Your mouth twitched at his voice saying your name. You squeezed his hand gently.

Obi-Wan continued, "How is it that a young and beautiful Senator such as yourself has not found a husband." He was almost surprised with himself with such a sudden question. But he was curious. Curious if you weren't involved with someone because of him or because you were too busy. He hoped it was the former, as selfish as that was.

You squeezed his hand a bit harder. "I have been otherwise engaged in-" You were abruptly interrupted by the lift coming to a sudden stop.

Obi-Wan reached out and held you to him as you both steadied at the surprising halt. He kept you close as he looked around doing his absolute best not to think too much about how perfectly you fit against him. His eyes glanced at the doors once more. Nothing looked wrong.

You looked around as well, then spotted something out one of the windows behind you.

You groaned, "Oh please, not again."

Obi-Wan followed your gaze and his face hardened. A sizable group of mercenaries were making their way into the delegation building. Many were scaling the walls and punching in windows. Others were shooting at the guards who were trying to keep them at bay, but there were too many of them. Obi-wan felt you shift, your heart racing.

You turned in the Jedi's arms and looked up at him. "You didn't happen to bring your saber, did you?"

Obi-Wan raised his brow. "As a matter of fact, I left it at the temple with the younglings."

You let out a huff as you hit his chest with a light fist. Obi-wan couldn't help but laugh softly. "Of course," but he said it a bit tentatively, not sure what you were thinking.

You smirked. "Perfect." You shimmied out of his arms and pulled your headdress off.

Obi-Wan watched in awe as you pulled out various little throwing knives from the decorative headset that he thought were parts of the headpiece. You then cut the bottom of your dress to give you a bit more room to maneuver. You checked for your small gun strapped to your leg and then nodded to your stunned him. He knew his face betrayed his shock but he couldn't help it. This wasn't the same woman he knew before they parted. This was someone he very much wanted to never be parted from again. For more than one reason.

You shrugged. "What?"

Blinking, he shook his head and chuckled. "I'm starting to think you did, in fact, change a lot."

You smiled. "Just enough." You sobered and looked out the window. Things were getting worse. "Alright. We either break through the lift window and join them down there or you can force open those doors and we fight our way through."

On cue, the sounds of battle suddenly clambered through the other side of the stuck doors. Obi-Wan weighed the options and decided to go with the second one, with one condition. "We fight our way through but only if you promise to stay close and don't try to be all heroic and get yourself killed. Clearly, you can hold your own but I'm not losing you right when I've found you." The urge to touch your cheek was nearly overwhelming to the point of pain. But he told himself that when they survived this because they must, he would allow himself at least one embrace.

You heard a bit of humor in his voice but took in his words with a slight shrug. "Fair enough."

Satisfied with your answer, Obi-Wan pulled out his lightsaber and turned it on, the sound giving you goosebumps. You watched as he tested it on the door driving it through the expensive-looking metal and it nearly started melting on impact. However, you both found that to take too long, the dripping metal making a huge mess on the floor and the lift was starting to get hot. Giving you a look he nodded to the door.

"I'm going to slash the controls then force the doors open. Ready?" Obi-wan wasn't confident it was going to work but it was worth a try.

You just stared at him. His beard made him look older and his eyes held yours with kindness. There were days when you wished you knew how he was and what he was doing. Funny to think that here he was, going into battle alongside you. You smirked as an idea popped into your head.

Taking a small step forward, you looked at him earnestly. "I don't suppose this is a normal thing to do before going into battle. But," you shrugged, taking another step forward, your chests nearly bumping, "c'est la vie."

Without warning Obi-Wan found your lips pressed to his. It took him just a second to react. Holding his saber out to the side, he wrapped his other arm around your middle, kissing you back. You held onto each other for as long as you dared. He pulled away slightly only to kiss you again, lightly and with your name on his breath. Slowly he then brushed his lips against your cheek, slowly moving back to your lips just like all the times he'd imagined doing to you.

His breath against your skin made your toes curl while your heart did its best to pump right out of your chest. You felt tears prick at the back of your eyes as you pulled away and looked him right in the eyes.

"I'm sorry but I had to. Before it was too late." But it more felt like he took over, making your apology sound superfluous.

Obi-Wan reached up and stroked your cheek like he wanted to do earlier and smiled. "If only things were different."

There was a loud shout and more shots fired on the other side of the door, bringing your attention back to it. You nodded, leaning into his hand. "If only."

There was another shot and the doors shook. Obi-Wan took his hand back and held it in front of the door, ready to force it open. He gave you one last look and you nodded, brandishing your own weapons. Swiftly he slashed the controls and then parted the doors with ease. However, he felt nothing but unease at this entire situation. His mind was clouded with the feel of your skin, your scent, your body against his. It was almost like he had to physically shake his head to focus. This was probably why Jedi were restricted from relationships, all his senses were filled with you.

You took in the raging battle before you. Obi-Wan took his lightsaber in both hands and held it up. Your heart was still pounding from the kiss, your skin still tingling from his touch. You needed to focus on the battle before you, the cries of the fight and the sounds of blasters doing hardly anything to take your mind away from finding some sort of solution to Obi-wan Kenobi becoming a permanent companion in your hectic life.

You both looked at each other one last time before rushing out into the fray, guards, Jedi, Padawan, and soldiers alike defending their home alongside friends. You let a smile pull at your lips as you fought beside the man who had your heart. Perhaps it was time to make things different and not let 'fate' take him away again.
