Burn (Poe Request)

After this chapter I'm not taking any more requests. But you can still request from the prompts if you want. This chapter is based off of the song above, "First Burn, " I reccomend you listen to it before you read this chapter. Also pretend you have a sister named Angelica for this purpose.

It was late at night, and you had come home to your house, where Poe and you had stayed. You had just found out that Poe had cheated on you, only because he did it to "protect some mission" and you were furious.

You parked the speeder on the balcony of your home, getting out and marching inside.

You looked around the room for the closest object of his you could destroy, and that's when you saw it: his letters. Poe and you had met by your sister, Angelica. She introduced you to him at a celebration at the Rebel Base, and you both had been dating, then you got married ever since. Whenever Poe was away, he would send you letters of poetry, love letters, and letters telling you about his day. Whenever you felt down, you always went to his letters for comfort. But not today.

Your eyes flicked around the room, seeing where you should take his letters and throw them away, just as your heart had been thrown out and stomped on. At last, your eyes came upon the fireplace, it's burning embers crackling delicately.

You grabbed the letters blindly, not batting an eye about how much they meant to you, or used to mean to you. You slowly walked up to the fire with the letters clutched in your hands. You opened a few of them, skimming over the lines that he wrote to you. You pursed your lips together as you felt tears coming out of your eyes, and falling on to the paper, it's ink becoming smeared.

One by one you skimmed over the letters, then throwing them into the flames watching them burn one at a time, the smell of burnt paper began to fill the air.

You sat yourself down in front of the flames, your eyes squinting from the light.

As you were about to pick up another letter, you heard the door open to your home. You knew it was Poe.

"(Y/N)?" he asked, creeping up towards you. "I... I can explain-"

You weren't going to let him explain. He was probably going to come up with some lousy excuse and expect you to run into his arms. No, you were tired of running. You were tired of his excuses and his lies. You were not going to let him get away with the weak version of yourself. You were going to leave a mark in his mind that you would always remember this moment, so he would spend every night wondering about you.

"I saved every letter you wrote me," you sniffed, holding up a letter to him, your back still facing him and your attention still on the fire. "From the moment I saw you, I knew you were mine, you said you were mine, I thought you were mine. " you lowered your hand, examining the piece of paper, another tear slipping from your eye. You tore it up into shreds, and sprinkled them into the fire once again.

You heard Poe's breath hitch behind you as he saw all of his work being torn into the flames.

"Do you know what Angelica said when I told her what you'd done?" you asked, looking down at your hands, covered in wet ink, from wiping away your tears on the letters. "She said, 'You have married an Icarus, he has flown too close to the sun, '" you quoted, sniffing again, as you thought her words spoke truth.

Poe came up behind you, but you stood up and whipped around to face him, your eyes were daggers, burning just like the flames that cackled before you. "Don't, " you stopped him, tears flooding from your eyes, but your fixed your posture, making sure you weren't weak. "Take another step in my direction I can't be trusted around you, " you spat, your hands trembling from fear and heartache.

"(Y/N)..." he sighed, holding out a hand for you, but your slapped it away.

"Don't think you can talk your way into my arms... Into my arms, " you cried, turning away from him, and looking down at the fire.

"I'm burning the letters you wrote me, " you admitted, taking another letter and scanning it. "You can stand over there if you want, I don't know who you are, I have so much to learn..." you paused, crumpling up his letter, and throwing it into the hungry flames, watching it being eaten up. "I'm re-reading your letters, and watching them... Burn, " you shrugged, your head nodding of approval from yourself, and your heart seemed to applaud you as you were in control of the situation, not Poe, you.

Poe stepped up to you again, he was about to say something, then he shut his mouth, as he knew that anything he said would make you slap back with even something worse.

So instead, you said, reminding him of what he had done, "You published the letters she wrote you, " you added, remembering what he had wrote in the newspaper, the Holonews, only to protect his name. "You told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed, in clearing your name, you have ruined our lives, " you venomously spat.

You heard him plop down on the couch, his figure slouching. You turned your head slightly to look at him, seeing him run his hands through his hair in confusion and anger towards himself, wondering why he did this to you, to your relationship, your marriage.

You chuckled, staring at the fire, watching his letters burn, the memories of your younger selves running through your mind. "Heaven forbid someone whisper, 'He's part of some scheme'," you chuckle, shaking your head, admiring the crackling flames, the letters feeding the pit, just like the letters served you a right of confidence and control. "Your enemy whispers, so you have to scream!" you shout, turning around fully to see Poe, hovering over him, like a wrecking ball to a small building, about to knock it down.

You slowly walk up to him, which made him look up, setting his hands down by his side. You got down and put your hands on his knees, and leaned in whispering into his ear, your lips only inches away from it. "I know about whispers... " you breathed, "I see how you look at my sister... "

You grabbed him by the collar tightly then slammed him back on to the couch. He sat there in shock, as you were letting all of your anger out about how many times he's flirted with your sister, flirted with other women, right behind your back. But you saw, you saw everything. You weren't an idiot.

You sat down on to his lap, wrapping your legs around him, your face facing his. Your cold and lost eyes stared into his, wondering why he had to cheat on you for not only once, but for a year.

Suddenly you felt Poe start to caress your cheek, but you slapped his hand away. "Don't, " you snapped. "I'm not naive, I have seen women around you. "

You felt his hands run down your body, but you slapped his face, making him take his hands away.

"Don't, " You said, as you slapped his face. You continued, "...Think I don't see, how they fall for your charms, " you walked your fingers up his jacket.  "All. Your. Charms, " you traced his lips, teasing him. You knew how confused he was. He hated it.

You got up from his lap, his hands lingered on you as you stood up. You turned away from him, looking out at the nearest window, gazing out upon the city.

"I'm erasing myself from the narrative... Let future historians wonder how (Y/N) reacted when you broke her heart," you shed another silent tear, your fists balling up with anger and grief. "You have thrown it all away! Stand back, watch it burn!" you shrieked, running up to the table that held your letters, kicking it over and sending the papers flying away into the pit of fire, the flames lighting up again, as they were free to roam where ever they wanted.

"Just watch it burn, " you groaned, fisting your hair, tears rolling freely, landing on the floor quietly. You fell to the floor tired, exhausted, and angry. You started to cry your eyes out, letting the flood carry your emotions.

Slowly your tears began to dry up, your eyes no longer had any more moisture to let you to continue to cry. You slowly stood up, your body weakening, but your mine was strong. You looked up upon the mantel as your saw pictures of your family, your children that you and Poe had, and you seemed to crack a smile at the memories, but it quickly faded as you remembered that you could no longer have that happy reality.

"And when the time comes, " you brought your hands up to the picture, taking it off the mantel and hugging it, closing your eyes and letting the memory fade back in. After a while you opened your eyes, as they were glassy, the orange flames seemed to make your eyes change colors. "Explain to the children the pain and embarrassment, you put their mother through, " you pulled the picture away from you, darting your eyes at the photo then back at Poe, going back and forth, wondering where the father went that was in the photo, because the man standing before you was certainly not their father. "When will you learn?! That they are your legacy! We are your legacy!" you forced the photo up in front of his face, making him remember that he belonged to you, and not his job or other women, but to you and your family. "If you thought you were mine!" you slammed the photo on the ground in front of his feet, the frame of the glass shattering, leaving only the photo vulnerable.

You breathed heavily in front of him, your anger overpowering you. You continued to look down at the ground, with Poe falling to his knees, picking up the photo, as he started to weep.

"(Y/N)..."

"Don't."
