Summary: Your best friend Luke finally admits his feelings for you.
...
It was late in the evening, the two moons of the desert world you lived in were slowly starting to make an appearance as the sky faded to a soft pink color. You took a moment to look up and admire the breathtaking view.
You were just about to finish up your chores for the day, grabbing a clean cream colored cloth from the back pocket of your pants to clean a silver droid your father had recently purchased.
"Your presence has been much appreciated, madame." The silver protocol droid speaks, startling you with it's suddenly loud metallic voice. You gave it a quick nod before shutting it down and heading to the door frame of your home to call out to your father, letting him know you were done.
Much like every other evening, you then made your way towards Luke's homestead to see how your best friend was doing.
You knock on the door, barely loud enough to be heard. After a small wait, Luke's Uncle Owen opens the door and welcomes you into his home, a gentle smile on his face as he tells you Luke was in he his room.
"He's been in there most of the day. I gave him some time off and he's been stuck in there reading away." He tells you, watching as you step through the small door frame.
"Reading?" You exclaimed causing the man to chuckle.
"I was shocked too." He says, patting your back.
Once the conversation dies down, you trail your way towards the closed doors of Luke's room - saying a quick hello to his Aunt Beru on your way.
Knocking lightly on his door, you wait for a reply. "Come in." His voice finally sounds; it was distant and irritated. He had thought it was his Aunt or Uncle coming to check up on him, knowing they probably didn't like all the time he had spent in his room today.
You open his door quietly before entering the room and shutting the door gently. You find him sitting on his small cot bed looking down into a book of some sort, his brows furrowed while he glared at the pages.
"Hi." You spoke up, in a soft voice trying not to scare him. His head immediately shot up from the pages and he looked at you with wide eyes before slamming the book shut.
"Hi, I thought it was my Aunt or Uncle." He mumbles, sending you a small smile that you noticed didn't reach his eyes.
"Is something wrong?" You question him, concern lined through your voice.
He doesn't say anything, he just stands up slowly - stopping in front of you before becoming silent, frozen in a new found coldness that covered his room.
You stared at him with puzzled eyes as you recall that he'd been holding back lately, becoming distant. You noticed it only a few days ago. The boy you always caught staring at you; watching your eyes closely as you talked was replaced by someone who kept avoiding eye contact with you and answered in short stubble sentences when you would ask him something. It kind of worried you; you thought maybe he didn't want to be friends anymore. The thought made you slump and frown to yourself.
But little did you know that it was all because of his growing feelings for you. He had been feeling something for quite sometime but it was only recently that his heart started beating uncontrollably whenever you smiled at him and he found him asleep thinking about you as he tried to fall asleep at night.
He had enough of holding his feelings in so he decided that today - right now - he would tell you.
The tension was growing rapidly between you both as you stared at each other; you tried to figure out his emotions as he tried to find the right words to say.
"Look, I have something to say and I'm just going to say it." He finally breaths out, closely his eyes lightly, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly before opening his eyes again to peer over at you. You watched him in confusion, pondering on his odd behavior.
"The past few months, we've been spending a lot of time together. I got to know you, a lot; I got to know your flaws, your strengths, your habits and I found myself slowly adoring every part of you. Like the way your eyes crinkle up when you smile and the way your cheeks flush from the heat as you complain about it. I love how you listen to me when I ramble off about wanting to become a pilot and you don't think it's only a silly dream by telling me I will actually do it someday. Being around you just feels me with and unexplainable joy." He rambles out before pausing trying to read your face. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, I like you, a lot. Maybe even love you." He finished, letting out a breathe as he hadn't throughout his whole speech.
Your face filled with shock as you carefully analyzed every word you had just heard him say; you couldn't believe it. The boy you had been crushing on since the day he introduced himself after spilling a can of oil by your feet, just confessed he felt the same way.
"Luke, -" You start, beginning to tell him the feeling was mutual but he cuts you off, shaking his head.
"It's okay, [Y/N]. If you don't feel the same, you don't have to pity me or comfort me. I'm a strong person, I can handle rejection." He mumbled, trying to avoid your gaze, kicking his boot against the dirty floor.
"I feel the same way." You blurt out, ignoring the fumbled words that had just came from his mouth.
"Really?" He questioned in shock, looking hopefully towards you with wide eyes.
"Yes." You answer and a smile appears on his face before you tightly wrapped your arms around his neck, his hands resting comfortably around your waist.
It's been a year since that day.
It felt like it was only yesterday to you. Your relationship grew stronger over the past year, and you grew madly in love with the Tatooine farmboy, yet you had never actually spoken the meaningful three words to him; you were just waiting for the right moment. Something you believed strongly about; you didn't want to just spit the words out.
Luke sometimes didn't understand why you wouldn't say the words but he was accepting, waiting patiently. At the end of the day, he was okay with it because he believed you truly loved him; he wanted you to feel comfortable and safe in your relationship, not wanting to pressure you, making you feel like you needed to say it because you didn't; the love was there and you both felt it but Luke did wish you would utter the words, just once.
"Hey." Luke greets you as you walk over to the boy who was standing outside his house with a golden droid.
"Hi." You beam at him, causing him to smile before he pulls you in for a short hug.
"I know we had plans today but something came up. A droid is missing and if I don't find him as soon as possible, I'll be dead." He tells you. Your face falls slightly but you nod understanding. His Uncle could be really strict when it came to his droids, especially around harvest season. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"All right." You smile before he places a quick kiss on your cheek.
He hops into his speeder, along with the droid, waving back at you before disappearing from your sight. You sigh and make your way back home deciding to distract yourself in your chores.
The day drags on slowly and the longer you find yourself waiting for Luke's returned, the more worried you become.
Your thoughts were filled with him; so much so that you could barely focus on trying to fix the bad motivator on an old Artoo. You try to steady your thoughts, concentrating on the droid in front of you. As soon as you actually start making some progress, you hear a loud crashing sound sound from outside causing you to drop your tools from the scare.
You catch your breathe before taking in what had happened. Your father wasn't home, he had recently left to head into Tosche Station so there was no way the source of the noise came from him. Furrowing your brows in confusion, you think about what else it could have been.
Luke's Aunt and Uncle were the only one's around but you knew they never made much noise. So you decided to ignore it. You pick up your tools focusing back to the droid, thinking it was probably just some Jawas fooling around. You don't get much farther into you work before you hear another bu much louder bang.
Your curiosity grew so you quickly set your tools back down and headed out of your homestead. As you step through the doors, the heat beats down on you and the light of the day shields your vision.
Once your eyes adjust to the light, you search around looking for what could have caused the loud bangs. When your eyes land on Luke's homestead, they widen in horror at the sight, "No!" You call out discovering that the source of the noise did in fact come from Luke's homestead.
Without hesitation, your legs start moving, picking up speed as you hurry towards the homestead. It takes you only seconds to reach the hut. You fall to your knees at the sight of Luke's aunt and uncle's dead bodies sprawled across the desert floor. Tears build up in your eyes as your thoughts travel back to Luke; what was he going to do? Your emotions were all over the place, thinking of the two elders you had grown to love over the past years; they took you in like family, they cared for you and they cared for Luke.
Suddenly, you're drawn from your thoughts as you hear loud, clanky footsteps sound from floors of inside Luke's home. Your eyes dart up in fear and you're meet with the sight of two tall figures, dressed from head to toe in white armour with a blaster each in hand, ready to fire.
Before you even get a chance to react, two ear piercing blaster shots sound and you felt a sharp, stinging pain shoot throughout your entire body.
You look down at your body to see blood flowing out from a wound in your stomach where you had been struck. Collapsing to the ground, you try to control your ragged breathing, holding onto the wound trying the best you could to stop the blood.
It felt like hours had past but you knew it couldn't have been when you see Luke's worried face appear in front of you.
"No, no, no!" He yells out, frantically once he realized what had happened; his family was gone. His eyes drift down to see a large amount of blood covering your shirt and he starts to panic all over again.
"[Y/N]!" He calls out, taking your almost lifeless body into his arms, resting your head in the crook of his elbow. "Don't die, please." Luke whispers, his voice trembling as tears cover his vision. He stares down at your drained features, letting his tears fall.
"Luke." You say weakly, barely above a whisper as you stare up at him.
"Please don't go." He says, pushing hair from your face as he watches you slowly slipping away, pain shaking through his body.
At this point, you had realized this was it; your final moments. Figuring now was the perfect time - the only time - you manage to lift your hand up to cup his face.
"I love you." You whisper, just loud enough for the crying boy to hear. He lets out a loud cry, realizing you finally said it, the three words he'd been longing to hear fall from you lips.
"I love you, too." He whispers back, his voice filled with pain as he watches you take your last breathe.
