...
"Ouch!"
You were too focused on the task in front of you that you barely heard Rey's protests as you pulled at her hair. Your fingers gripped her brown locks as you tugged it back, trying to master the buns you put her hair in every day.
"You'd think after doing this for so long, you'd learn to stop being so rough," Rey complained causing you to chuckle lightly as you wrap her hair into the second bun.
"Sorry," You mumble, keeping your focus on her hair.
She lets out a small sigh as you continue to tug at her hair as she tries to hold back her smile. As much as she hated that you were so rough and careless with her hair, she adores seeing your proud face every day as you finished, admiring your work. She loved it when you done her hair and you truly loved doing it. It was probably your favourite part of your usual horrid days.
"Done!" You exclaim as you finish the last touch and Rey smiles, grateful that she doesn't have to suffer through any more hair tugging for the next 24 hours but also a little sad that it was over and she had to face the day.
Rey removes herself from her uncomfortable position sitting in the sand and dusts herself off.
"Thank you." She smiles lightly, holding your gaze.
"You're welcome." You reply, grabbing your blaster from the ground and shoving it in its usual spot in your belt. "I have to head to Niima Outpost before we head out today. I have to get a new net."
"Okay." She simply replies, grabbing some supplies nearby.
This was just another typical day for the both of you.
Ever since you could remember, you have been here on Jakku. Your mother and father had died when you were only four years old and you were left in the hands of your only living relative. You don't even remember his name because as soon as you were turned over to him, he dropped you off at this junk yard and you've been here ever since.
You knew he was never coming back for you, no one was. So you grew used to the loneliness.
About two years later another girl suffered the same fate as you, her name was Rey. She was so fragile and scared when she first arrived and you were there to help her.
Ever since the day you met, the two of you promised to never leave each other. You grew up with her and you truly loved her more than anything.
And she loved you too, but her love was different from yours; she was in love with you.
For the past year she had been trying to build up the courage to tell you but she just couldn't. She was scared you wouldn't feel the same.
You were basically family, even, but Rey couldn't help the butterflies in her stomach every time you looked at her.
She didn't have a clue on how to even approach it, she'd never experienced this kind of thing and she had no idea what to do.
"Are you coming?" Your voice beams through Rey's ears, dragging her from her thoughts. She gives you a small nod before hoping on her speeder.
The day passed by as usual but you had noticed Rey wasn't acting like herself. She seemed distracted; like she was off in another world. She had barely said anything the whole day, she even snapped at you at one point.
You stood outside the old broken down walker you called home, cleaning off your speeder as the sun went down. Rey seemed to be the only thing on your mind as you worked at scrubbing the dirt off.
You were worried about her, you knew there must have been something wrong. Your mind was buzzing through all the possibilities but you couldn't help but think you had done something to make her angry.
The thought just kept consuming you until you couldn't take it any longer. You stormed inside, grabbing her attention.
"Rey, what's wrong?" You question, impatient.
"What?" She responds, confused. She stands up from her kneeled down position and walks towards you.
"Did I do something? Because if I did, you should tell me. I don't want you to be upset with me, Rey. You're very important to me and If I'm doing something you don't like, just tell me and I'll stop. I-" Your rambling off spark something inside of Rey and she grabbed you face without warning, cutting off your words with her lips. You were beyond shocked but you relaxed, kissing her back.
Her lips felt soft and you enjoyed the feeling of them against yours. When you realised exactly what was happening, you pulled back, "Why did you do that?"
Rey stumbles to find words, "I-uh, I don't know."
The air was tense and awkward. The two of you stared at each other in silence until you find yourself grabbing her face and connecting your lips once again.
Your mouths move in sync as you deepen the kiss, enjoying every second. This time, Rey pulls back,
"I think I love you." She whispers, searching your eyes for any type of emotion.
"I know."
