Motor races, the classics
"I thought you'd enjoy this, Anakin," Obi-Wan stated.
"But it's motor racing, not podracing," Anakin whined.
Obi-Wan chuckled, "exactly, it's a classic. And this is the twenty-four-hour race; it's legendary."
"But it's motor racing!"
-----
Obi-Wan chuckled at the enthusiasm of Ahsoka and the Vode. They bounced in their seats whenever a car came zooming past them.
-----
Twelve hours in, and most of them had worn themselves out and were dead in sleep.
Obi-Wan couldn't help but chuckle as he noticed Cody lose the fight to stay awake, the man's head falling against his shoulder.
There had already been many accidents, the first few laps being hectic.
-----
Obi-Wan smiled when he realised that everyone had woken up for the last hour of the race.
He felt The Force pull at his attention as a car came down towards the corners. He watched as their breaks lock up, sending them over the grass banks before landing back onto the road.
The whole crowd gasped as the car's flooring was ripped off along with anything below the rear lights.
Obi-Wan sighed, already knowing that there was to be a full course yellow.
He was right.
-----
The mood was electric around them as all the cars came zooming past on their final lap.
"And the 98th car seems to have stopped on the track!"
The crowd went silent as they stared at the car that stopped on the track right in front of it.
"Imagine getting this far and the car stopping on the final lap."
The crowd winced in sympathy. They could see the marshals out looking over the car and making sure any car following would know to get out of the way.
"Why are they not helping?" Ahsoka asked, seeing the driver attempting to start the car and the marshals watching.
"They're are not allowed to interfere, and if the driver gets a certain distance away from the car, the car and the drivers are disqualified," Anakin sighed, "unless the driver gets it going, he's not crossing the line."
"Is there anything against the crowd assisting?" Cody asked, "like pushing the car?"
Everyone, including the rest of the crowd, turned to look at Anakin.
Anakin only shrugged.
"There is no rule against it," Obi-Wan spoke up, "we just have to be able to get onto the track past the marshals."
"How do we get past the marshals?" Someone in the crowd asked.
"Well, they keep us off the track to keep us safe," Obi-Wan mused, "so what if all the other cars had gone by? They would be last but would have still made it across."
"And they could defend saying a Force-sensitive would know if there was a danger," Anakin grinned.
The crowd was once again vibrating in their seats until the last car had passed.
"Is the track safe?" One of the crowd shouted.
"Mostly?" One of the marshals replied.
The marshals were not prepared for the hoard of the crowd coming pouring down and onto the track.
The driver was startled as Obi-Wan Kenobi tapped on his door. He just gapped at the man.
"We'll get you across that line," Obi-Wan smiled over at the shocked driver. He then looked over at the crowd as they all grabbed parts of the car. Looking back at the driver, he asked, "will the car roll?"
The driver could only nod at the question.
"Then get ready to make sure the car rolls in the correct direction," Obi-Wan smiled again before turning back to the crowd, "get ready, we'll get this team across!"
The marshals watched with equal shock as the crowd around the car grabbed a part of the vehicle.
"3, 2, 1!"
After the initial struggle to get the car moving, they got it to a reasonable rolling speed of slow.
"I can not believe it! The crowd is pushing the 98th car!"
Obi-Wan felt the joy in the air as more and more of the crowd joined in as they passed more stands. The marshals had given up trying to stop people and had opened the gates to prevent people from climbing the fences instead.
-----
They were two corners away from the finishing straight when they encountered an uphill that they could not roll the car over.
"It seems the 98th car can not get over the incline!"
"Alright, Vode to the sides, nice and tight!" Cody barked.
Obi-Wan chuckled, realising what Cody intended to do. Luckily, most of the Vode had taken up bench pressing since the war's end and had kept most of their muscles and strength. He waved the rest of the crowd back slightly, ensuring they gave the Vode enough room.
"Ready! 2, 3, heave!"
The drive was startled as he felt the car lift from the ground. He could see through all the various screens and mirrors that he was being raised.
"I can not believe this! They've lifted the car!"
"Forward, Vode!"
The crowd followed as the ex-soldiers carried the race car over the hill. Soon, once the vehicle was on the ground again, they resumed their positions and began to push the car again.
"What's this! The drivers are leaving the pits, running out onto the road towards where the 98th car is!"
Obi-Wan spotted the drivers as they came closer; the front two were the other drivers of the 98th car. He forced them politely to sit on the sides of the vehicle while the others pushed.
"The 98th has made it to the finish straight! This is unbelievable! The crowd and drivers are all pushing it towards the finish line!"
Everyone was cheering as they pushed the car across the finish line.
"And the 98th car has finished the race!"
The relief and joy were overwhelming; the reaction from the crowds still in the stand was almost more than it was for the race winners.
-----
"So, you enjoyed it then, I take it, Anakin?"
"Oh, shut up."
