Barrack Patrol

"The south patrols have reported in white smoke in the distance, send a squad out to investigate," Cody stated, watching the Lieutenant walk away, speaking in their comm unit.

"Last time they reported in white smoke, it was from the barracks," Cause stated, approaching the Marshall Commander.

"Let us hope they have not made that mistake again," Cody sighed, looking over at the fellow Commander, "anything to report?"

"The usual noise complaints," Cause shrugged.

Cody sighed, removing his helmet to pinch his nose. "Why are they not understanding that there is vode currently on a sleep schedule different to theirs?"

"The normal “I'm bored, so I'm the most important”, you know, that sort of thing," Cause shrugged, "ready to deal with the usual suspects?"

"I'm willing to make it a GAR law at this rate," Cody sighed, placing his bucket on his desk before walking towards the first barrack, "this patrol of the barracks every shift is getting frustrating."

"You do that; maybe we'll get a chance to sleep on this “peaceful and part leave campaign”," Cause sniggered.

"Only if I get them doing the reports; they've already put us behind because of all the complaints," Cody snorted.

"You do that also," Cause stated, "if they have enough time to make bubbles, then they have time to fill in reports."

They reached a building with 187 written in calligraphy.

Cause raised an eyebrow, "when did they take on handwriting classes?"

"I find it is best not to question," Cody sighed.

Together, they walked in and towards where they could hear the sound of something repeatedly hitting against something.

"Should I not question this, then?" Cause questioned as they looked over at the sheepish looks of the troopers in purple.

"If you want to play cricket, then go to the field," Cody stated, crossing his arms, "it can be used for this exact reason. Instead, you try and wake your vode."

"Sorry, Commanders," the vode muttered as they grabbed everything before leaving the room.

"I'm going to send a photo of this to Ponds; he doesn't believe me every time I bring it up," Cody sighed, glancing over at Cause

"I could also send over images of the last incidents," Cause offered.

"Why do you still have those?" Cody asked.

"Blackmail."

Cody only raised an eyebrow before he set towards the next one.

The building had a barely legible 501 splattered on with blue paint.

"You got a shield?"

"A shield?" Cody questioned, turning to look at Cause in surprise.

"Every time I've dealt with Torrent noise complaints, I've needed a shield," Cause explained before opening the door.

"Incoming!"

Cody only just heard the shout before he felt himself be pushed to the side and onto the floor.

"See, a shield," Cause whispered before standing upright to stare at Torrent, "CT-27-5555! Why do you have a vode-sized bowling ball?!"

"Sorry, Commander!" Fives shouted, hurrying his feet.

"And gonk droids explode!"

"Sorry, Commander didn't realise," Fives stated through a grin.

"Now I know the whole of Torrent knows otherwise," Cause stated, raising an eyebrow.

"I want that ball gone; the droids returned to where they are meant to be and ten laps of the large field," Cause stated.

"But-"

"Now, troopers," Cody growled, moving to stand next to the other Commander.

"Sir, yes, sir!" The vode all but squeaked, scrambling to do as told.

"Kriffing Torrent," Cause muttered.

"I do believe swearing about those below you is unbecoming of a Commander," Cody stated.

There was a loud crash behind them.

"Its Torrent, it allowed."

There was a pile-up of four vode and a gonk droid behind them that Cause highlighted.

"They might be the exception," Cody offered.

The two turned and were met with two of Torrent trying to pick up the bowling ball.

"They are the exception," Cause stated.

"If you break yourself, you'll be fixing yourself!" Kix shouted.

"I find that acceptable," Cody agreed, turning away before they had to start filling in other forms.

The barrack courtyard was silent under the dying light as the two Commanders made their way around the buildings.

"Was there another complaint about the 224?" Cody asked, looking over at Cause.

Cause sighed, pinching their brow, "always is, but apparently, they are acting more secretive than usual."

Cody raised an eyebrow, "more? I didn't think they could be more secretive unless they went to a black op."

"They have no communication with those outside the 224 unless it is mandatory," Cause sighed, "no one has been able to get in there anymore."

"Well, that is odd," Cody agreed.

The two walked to the unmarked barrack. The door was locked, and it took their override code to allow them entrance.

"How are they allowed to have a building that would hold everyone present?" Cause asked.

"Their “fame” gives them certain privileges," Cody sighed.

"So, how do we approach this?" Cause questioned.

"Carefully to through, they have an office with a computer connected to the security cameras, from there we'll be able to highlight any areas that we'll need to check out," Cody explained, "I checked the blueprints."

Walking in, the entrance hallway looked normal - as normal as GAR space gets - so they moved forwards towards where the security office was. Opening one of the doors, they heard something squelch beneath their feet.

"So uncivilised," Cody muttered, shaking the mud from his boot.

Cause snorted, "they are the mud-jumpers."

"Could they not live up to their name?" Cody sighed, walking through the hallway and around each puddle.

-----

Soon they made it to the security office, and Cause waited as Cody logged into the cameras.
"Anything flagging your attention?" Cause asked.

"Nothing, except the mud," Cody grunted, "most areas are quiet, others are empty."

Cause sighed, moving towards the door before pausing.

"What's up?"

"There is someone out there," Cause stated, "they are not that quiet."

"Well, can you see who they are?" Cody asked, logging out of the computer.

"No, they chose not to have any windows here," Cause sighed, "and they are out of view when I peak open the door."

"Risk it?" Cody asked.

"There isn't much we haven't seen because of Torrent," Cause agreed.

Opening the door silently, both looked around the room before coming on to who was the other in the room.
A trooper and a girl were both down to their lower layers, covered in a rash that the vod was applying cream too.
Everyone froze.

Looking away, Cody muttered under his breath, just loud enough for Cause to hear, "sorry, didn't see her blue..."

Both Commanders got out of the room the quickest that they could without looking like they were rushing.
The two had only just got out of the building before they realised just what the Marshal Commander had muttered.

Kix muttered as he made his way through the courtyard towards the medical building. Somehow, the di'kutla had managed to dislocate their knee and fracture both wrists because of the bowling ball.
He was so out of it that he was startled when he heard two vode suddenly start to laugh almost next to him. Turning around with hypos in hand, he was surprised when he saw that it was both of the Commanders that were almost collapsing in laughter.

Cause only managed to grab Cody to prevent him from falling as the two laughed themselves into tears.

"Are you both alright?" Kix asked, scanning over the two for any signs of injuries. Except for the tears down their faces, the laughs echoing through them and the mud over their boots, both looked to be okay.
When he gained no reply, he approached both slowly, knowing that they would still be fully capable of fighting back in this state. "I need to know if something is not right."

Sighing, Kix risked it and grabbed both of them by their shoulders. Raising an eyebrow as the two continued to laugh, instead of throwing him to the floor, he started to drag them towards the medical building.
He got them to two cots and promptly sedated them.

-----

Obi-Wan watched as both Commanders began to wake. "So you think that they were sleep-deprived, Kix?"

"Sir, that hypo should only last thirty minutes; they were asleep for just shy of four hours," Kix replied, "I have not been able to figure out what caused both Commanders to start laughing like that suddenly."

"Where was the smoke orienting from?" Cody rasped as he looked over at the two, squinting because of how bright the lights are.

"The barracks," Obi-Wan sighed.

Everyone startled as Cause barked out a laugh, "I kriffing told you, I kriffing told you it would be!"

Cody only sighed, "it was mandatory to go out." Before he pinched his brow, "and I had hoped that they'd learned the lesson from last time."

"You want to explain why you both had a laughing fit?" Kix asked, crossing his arms at the two.

"You know, I don't think hers were blue."

Kix and Obi-Wan's eyebrows rose as the comment from Cause caused Cody to break out in sheer giggles.
The two waited for them to calm down before Obi-Wan asked, "who is “her”?"

"With the mud-jumpers, little girl and trooper with a rash," Cody stated, taking deep breaths to calm down his lungs.

"And they didn't go to a medic?!" Kix growled, storming out, comm already up, ready to shout down the line.

"You know, Cody," Obi-Wan started looking between both Commanders, "when I recommend you to help instruct Cause, I didn't mean to teach them how to be sleep deprived and have a minor mental breakdown."

"I do believe that it is the troopers fault about the sleep deprivation," Cody stated.

"We did have to do patrols of the barracks every shift because of noise complaints, of troopers who only seemed to listen to two Commanders. Then we had to try and catch up on the data work that got delayed because of the patrols."

"Noise complaints?"

"They want to sleep, but their vode would rather play bowling with a vod-sized bowling ball and gonk droids," Cause shrugged.

"What-?"

"Torrent."

Obi-Wan sighed at both Commanders answer. "Kix has instructed that you are to get at least six more hours sleep," Obi-Wan explained.

"The data work?"

Obi-Wan held back his groan before stating, "I got the Lieutenants working on them, and any that they can not is being sent to me."

"Sir, you have to rest as well," Cody stated, pushing himself up.

"I, unlike yourself, have spent the last eight hours asleep," Obi-Wan pointed out.

"The medics went for you, didn't they?" Cody asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Only minorly."

"If you are not sleeping within the next five minutes, I will sedate you!" Kix growled, dragging in the trooper and girl behind him.

"I told you hers wasn't blue," Cause muttered as they closed their eyes.

"How is purple that much of a difference," Cody grumbled.

Kix appeared, pushing the Marshall Commander down on the cot, "because it has red in it." He then pulled out a hypo and held it threateningly in front of Cody's face, "sleep, now."

Cody grumbled but otherwise closed his eyes.
