From service droid to mother - Bettie Bot (request)
Song: John Williams - Rey meets BB8
Imagine: you're a homeless boy and you try to find shelter.
•••
Your belly rumbles with every few meters you walks down the streets of Coruscant. You don't remember the last time you ate anything.
Even though Coruscant is supposed to be one of the wealthiest places in the galaxy, you don't even get a glimpse of it.
Left alone to roam the streets by both parents, you spend your days searching for food and drinks just so you can survive, for what? You don't really know.
But now you haven't found any food in days. You're starting to lose energy, steps falter, you're tired and to top it all of, it's starting to rain.
You look around as the drops continue to fall faster and faster, you rush through the small alleys and the busy streets trying to find some sort of shelter. You already had your fair share of cardboard boxes already, dumpsters also made pretty decent homes over the past few months but tonight, you can't find a single place.
That is until you spot an open door to a house that seems pretty abandoned, it isn't unusual in a city like this for homes to be left to perish on their own.
You hastily close the door behind you, you're met with a warm glow casted around the house by a few small lights, it surprises you how cold it is inside the home though.
It doesn't seem like anyone lives here, judging by the coldness of the house and the state it's in. A quick look around can't harm you, right?
Your bare feet paddle down the large hallway, you've never seen such a big and rich environment as this house. It's a shame it's abandoned. Someone important must've lived here a long time ago.
You inspect every room, in search for any kind of supplements. You eventually end up in the kitchen. The food that's present isn't much but it is certainly enough to fill your small stomach.
You sit down on the high counter and slowly start munching away at the food in front of you. You close your eyes at the rich flavour. You can't remember ever tasting anything as good as this.
'Hello...' a female voice fills the room and it makes you startle. You quickly jump off of the counter and try to grab some food to go.
'Oh no... wait... please...' the droid raises her arms to prevent you from leaving. 'You can eat... it's fine... you can stay here...'
'Really?' Your voice comes out so small and hoarse, you could've sworn her features soften a bit. Which is practically impossible, she's a droid.
'You must be hungry, and tired..'
'I am...' you reply, tears pricking in your eyes. 'But won't your owner get mad?'
She shakes her head, 'my owner left a king time ago, I've been living here alone... I don't mind some company...so take a seat... I will get you everything you need...'
She gestures to the comfortable looking couch in the living room. You frown at her but you follow her direction. You walk over to the couch and you hop on, the food still in your hand.
You hear her rummaging through a cabinet in the hallway for a couple seconds until she returns to the living room. 'You must be cold...' for a droid she's actually quite human based.
She gently lays a blanket over your shoulders. You continue to eat while she does her daily tasks, or so you presume. You take your time letting your eyes scan the room.
'What's your name?' She asks.
'Y/n..' you answer truthfully. 'What is your name?' You ask as she joins you in the living room. 'I'm called a Bettie Bot...'
'You're pretty...' you comment with a small smile.
'Why thank you... you're very kind...'
'My parents always tell me to be nice, if you're nice to people then they do nice things back... so far no luck.. but I can try...'
'Where are your parents?'
You swallow the last bit of your food, your hands rubbing together, she can see you don't like to talk about it. 'They're gone...'
'Oh... I'm sorry...' She bows her head a little. 'It's okay... it's not your fault...'
'If it's any comfort, you can stay here as long as you'd like... I am programmed for many things, taking care of children is a big part of them... my last owner had two wonderful children...'
You yawn, the food is making you a little hazy. You suddenly get so many nutrients that your body doesn't really do well with processing them yet. Not in the old way.
'You can sleep if you want...'
You shake your head, fear keeping up on you again after the recent events. The streets at night aren't the safest, you're still scared that you're not entirely safe here.
'Do not worry Y/n... I will remain here.. I will make sure you are safe...'
Somehow this droid you just met is already ten times more trusted than anybody else in your life. Droids don't have evil intentions, not usually. 'Will you stay with me until I fall asleep?'
'Its part of my protocol Y/n...' she answers.
You turn your body so that you're laying on the couch. Your head resting on the soft pillow and your body covered with the thick blanket. With your belly filled, the warmth engulfing you and the safety of a service droid, you close your eyes and wait for the sleep to kick in, which is a couple minutes later.
Bettie looks at the child, it's been a while since she had to take of one but her protocol guides her through it like it has done many times before. A droid isn't supposed to feel much, but with this child, it's like human emotions develop.
•••
Over the past few weeks you've grown more and more attached to Bettie. Her pretty looks and her soft approach make you feel like you're being cared for by your mother.
She hold you, well it's more like you hold onto her like a koala. She feeds you the best food you could only ever dream of. She learns you many new things.
You learned to read a little, you even write your own sentence the other day. She's like a mother to you and that's exactly what you need.
You helped clean out the large bedroom, now it's your room. There's a large bed and a cabinet, now filled with clothes that are made for your size. All done by Bettie.
'Bettie?' You ask het as she carries you to the large bedroom.
'Yes Y/n?' She asks looking down at you in her arms.
'I want to ask you something...' you comment as she gently placed you on the bed.
'You can ask me anything you like Y/n, you know that..' she lifts the covers for you to crawl under.
You pull the covers over you as you get comfortable. You've wanted to ask it for a while, not sure if the question will go against her protocol.
'Would you like to be my mommy?' You ask.
It stays quiet for a few seconds, it's like Bettie is rendered speechless by your sudden question.
Its true that she's been acting more and more like a mother to you, kisses and hugs included.
'Yes...' she replies, breaking the silence. 'I would like that... would you want a droid as a mother Y/n?'
'In my eyes you're not a droid... you're my new mommy...' you smile getting excited.
'Then your wish is my command...' she responds. You shoot from under the covers and wrap your arms around her frame.
A hand comes up your back, it's cold but as always, you ignore it, this is the only affection you need. Even if that means cold metal.
'I love you Mommy...' you whisper.
If she had been able to smile, she definitely would have. You mean a lot more to her than what you should mean to her. Truth is she was never a normal service droid, she always started to care too much.
But in this case, it might be good thing, because you need someone to take care of you, to teach you what you need to know to have a chance in this galaxy.
And this droid needs someone to take care off, so who else than this sweet little person in the ridiculously large nee in front of her?
'I love you too Y/n...' she replies, even though it might sound stoic and robotic, you couldn't be any happier.
