Truly, you could only blame Leia for this happening. She had sent you and Poe on a mission to Batuu, located at the very edge of the Outer Rim, on a three week long trip. Three weeks of scouting the interesting city all alone together had given you and Poe far too much time to think. You were asking about what he wanted out of the future, expecting him to say something cheesy but justified, like peace across the galaxy or justice for everyone hurt by the First Order. Instead, he stared straight ahead out of the viewport, looking at the rocky mountains in the distance, and he caught you completely off guard.

"Hm... what do I want out of the future?" He drummed his fingers against his knee, exhaled slowly, and then said, "Honestly... I'd say you."

"Huh---" Your head snapped to the side and you widened your eyes. Completely caught off guard, your lips twitched into an amused smile. "What did you just say?"

Looking over at you, he said, "I said you."

You laughed. During the year you and Poe had been dating, you'd experienced plenty of cheesy flirting. Some of it was teasing and he made a joke out of it. As much as what he said send your heart into a frenzy, you rolled your eyes, passing it off as a joke. "Why would you say that?"

"Because it's true!"

"Poe. No jokes. I really want to know what you want your future to look like! Come on --- I'm being serious."

He turned in the pilot's seat. "And so am I. Look, these last few days have been so boring --- and I love you, honey, don't forget that --- but they've been so boring and slow, and it's making me realize how much I like days like this. I want to have more of them with you. One day, when the war is over and we're finally able to have normal days, I want every single one of them to be with you."

The smile slowly disappeared off your face as the atmosphere changed. He reached over, stroking the side of his pointer fingers across your jaw in a quick movement.

"You're really just the easiest to fall in love with, aren't you?" you muttered.

His laughter filled the cockpit, combining with yours as he leaned in to kiss you softly. You wrapped your arms around his neck, letting your fingers brush against his hair. As you broke the kiss, he brushed the tip of his nose against yours.

"Just how easy am I to fall in love with?" he said. You pulled away from him, bemused, and he raised his eyebrows. "Easy enough to marry me, maybe?"

"If you're messing with me, Dameron, I---"

"I'm not," he laughed. "I'm not. I am honestly in love with you and if marriage is how I can guarantee all of those boring days I'm looking for, then I'm diving right into it. But only if you want the same, obviously."

"Poe, I love you more than I knew I could ever love someone," you said. "I'd marry you today if I could."

The bright idea must've popped into both of your minds at the same time, because you both grinned like fools. He quickly stood up from the pilot's seat just as you did, grabbing each other's hands.

"We could go see if they're selling a white dress or something at the markets," he said.

"I'm sure we could find someone to marry us."

"Beebs could be our witness---"

At the mention of his name, the nosy droid rolled right into the cockpit. He beeped quizzically.

"Hey, buddy, how does a wedding sound today?" As BB-8 chirped high pitched sounds to express his shock, Poe beamed. "I know! I mean --- I think we're doing this." He looked at you. "Are we doing this?"

"I think so," you breathed. "I'm ready if you are."

"I'm ready, honey," he said. It was true; he'd never been more ready for something. Neither had you. Your entire life was suddenly mapped out in front of you. If you had the chance to get to answer your own question on what you wished the future would look like, you knew your answer would've been something similar. A lifetime with Poe. That was all you could ask for. Even if the war was lost, you would find contentment spending whatever time you had left with him.

Gripping your hand tightly, you left the Falcon. BB-8 rolled behind you as you entered the markets in Black Spire Outpost. There were several junk shops that didn't offer anything useful. It was Poe that eventually found a tiny clothing shop owned by a Twi'lek woman named Arta. She put you in the prettiest dress she had; a secondhand gown that was cream colored and went down to your ankles.

As you changed behind the tiny curtain in the corner, Poe bought flowers from a cart. In the bright sunlight of the early noon, he put the flowers in your hair and let you hold the rest of them.

You found a secluded spot by the trees. A man you didn't know spoke in a language you could hardly understand. BB-8 stayed between you and Poe as you faced one another. He cradled your hands in his. The sunrays were right on your face as the man turned it over to Poe.

"I promised myself not to get into anything serious with how screwed up the galaxy was. It seemed like such an easy thing to do. But the first girl I ever saw was you, and it threw all of my plans out the window. And it's hard for to be mad for that, because you've given me something to fight for. Something that keeps me from being reckless. I have you to remind me that there's actually someone waiting for me to come home. I love you, honey, and I can't wait for all of it. The good days and the bad. I promise I'll take care of you always. I'll try my best to listen to you---"

You laughed. "At least you'll try."

"At least I'll try," he agreed. "I'll try to do everything right. I can't guarantee that I will, as much as I would like to. But I can guarantee that I'll treat you the way you deserve to be. The way you always wanted to be. I love you."

"I love you," you said. "Poe, I can promise you a thousand things right now and never be finished speaking. I don't even know where to start with my promises. I have too many. But I do know how to start thanking you. You gave me a family when we became friends, Dameron. Rey, Finn, Leia, Chewie... I had no idea so many people just like you could exist. And Beebs... you brought a droid in my life  that I had no idea I could love so much."

BB-8 chirped and bumped against your leg. The sound he made was something between a cheerful pitch and an, "awe".

"Thank you for them. Thank you for you. You encourage me when I need it. You protect me every single day. You never snap at me. You love me fiercly without fail and I cannot for the life of me understand it. I know getting married was a fast decision, Poe, but I've wanted it for longer than you know."

"Me, too." It was impossible to not notice how teary eyed he was.

There were no rings, there were no objections. The vows ended and the marriage was officiated and you were suddenly kissing Poe. Your arms were thrown over his shoulders and he looked down at you and just smiled.

"I am so incredibly in love with you," he told you.

"I know the feeling," you said, and you kissed him again.

After the mission, you and Poe disappeared on your honeymoon. Your extended trip took you away from Batuu to explore the other corners of the Outer Rim. To keep Leia from panicking, you sent her a message to explain.

She read it again and again in her quarters. The news would no doubt annoy Finn and Rey, who would want to be there. But for Leia, it was joyous. She loved you. She loved Poe. He was a son to her and you were the best he could have ever hoped for. She would be lying if she hadn't wished for something like this before every single mission she sent the duo on together.

So for now, she quietly celebrated with love in her heart. She would send a message of congratulations when she was sure the tears would stop flowing. Then she would tell Finn and Rey.

She read the end of the message again.

"That's what happens when you send us to the galaxy's edge," Poe had written. "But we couldn't be happier. Thank you. We'll see you soon."
