Chap. 4 - Reinforcements in Christophsis
The journey to Christophsis was long and tedious for the enthusiastic Padawan, whose master forced him to sit in meditation the entire way. Hours had passed, and his butt was beginning to ache from staying in a meditation pose, next to his already numb legs. On one occasion he even raised his head to see his teacher and ask permission to go to the bathroom, but he shook his head even before he asked. As if he imagined what he wanted before even thinking about it. Luckily for Roy, a message from the admiral interrupted his meditation.
Admiral: - General. We approach the space space of Christophsis. We've received a transmission from Admiral Yularen. They say that Generals Skywalker and Kenobi are having a lot of trouble on the ground. We need to break the Separatist blockade so we can send reinforcements. -
Pablo: - Understood, Admiral. Prepare the troops to land as soon as we break through the blockade. -
Admiral: - Yes, general. - And ended the holocall.
Pablo: - And for you, young padawan. You will be under the command of Captain CT-3796. You will follow his orders like any other Lieutenant, but you will not have any troops under your command. Understood? -
Roy: - Yes, general. -
Paul: - Very good. See you at the landing platform. Prepare your equipment. -
Roy: - Yes, general. He answered with a cold voice.
Pablo-Jill didn't like treating the young Padawan in such a way, he even felt bad for doing it, and he was worried about that lack of emotions when expressing his doubts. In fact, he wasn't even dissatisfied, he just followed orders and shut himself off from him. Pablo had to find a way to connect with Roy, but for now he needed to understand what respect and chain of command meant within the army.
The Jedi left the room, leaving Roy behind. As he left, two clones that were on guard stood to attention in a military pose when he saw him, and he simply ordered them to rest before retiring to the command post. A few seconds later, Roy left the room, though with a much less serious face than before.
Roy stretched with all his strength, to then jerk his neck violently, something that worried the two clones quite a bit. A very deep breath, and in less than ten seconds his enthusiastic face reappeared.
Roy: - Do you know where I can find Captain CT-3796? - I ask, leaving the clones surprised by the sudden change of attitude.
Roy scoured the Venator cruiser barracks, looking for his new superior. On the way he met many clones, who greeted him and praised him for his great deeds during the capture of Gala, but he only returned the greetings, leaving aside the compliments. After all, he wasn't interested in being a hero or anything like that.
Roy: - Captain CT-3796? He-he asked a clone in blue armor who was on his back arguing with several lieutenants.
Clone Captain: - Yes? What do you need...? The clone asked as he turned around, though he was stunned to see who it was.
Roy: -Hammer? -
Hammer:-Roy? - The two asked surprised.
Roy: - So you are my new superior? -
Hammer: - And you my new recruit. When the commander informed me that he had to attend to a new Lieutenant, I never imagined it was you. But... Lieutenant? Aren't you supposed to be a commander or something? - I ask without hesitation.
Roy: - Yeah... Well... The general has other ideas in mind. For a while I thought he was going to be a private. So I don't think he didn't do too badly for me. -
The real reason why Paul put him in that position with those restrictions was not by chance. Being a private, he had to obey the orders of a sergeant or a lieutenant, officers who might not know how to give orders to a Padawan, much less take advantage of it in combat. Captain Hammer had already seen him in action, so he would have a general idea of where he could be useful. On the other hand, a senior position wouldn't teach Roy the basics of warfare alongside an army, and he wasn't ready to have men report to him. That was something he had to earn.
Hammer: - Good. I've never been trained to lead a Jedi, but I'll see what I can do. -
Roy: - It's a pleasure to be under your charge, captain. He-He said with a smile on his face.
Hammer: - The pleasure is all mine, Lieutenant. -
Everyone present could witness the moment. Those two, so different in mind and body, but they had been able to connect harmoniously from the first moment. The young man admired the clone for his courage in combat, and the clone admired him for his skill despite being so young. "It would certainly be interesting what the battlefield would be like with the two of them fighting together." That was a common thought in many of those present.
Shortly after the presentations, the red lights in the int
The Venator cruiser's superiors indicated that all clones were to prepare for landing on Christophsis. The fleet had broken through the Separatist blockade, and it was only a matter of time before they were required ashore.
Roy joined Hammer Company, a name he received from the same captain as the company. The 144 men climbed into the shuttles, and as the hangars of the massive space colossus opened, the LAAT/i doors closed and they began to descend toward the planet's surface.
Inside the shuttle where Hammer was, Roy was also there with another Lieutenant, while they had a strategic meeting via holo-projection with the rest of the Lieutenants who were in the other transports.
Hammer: - Very well gentlemen. We were assigned to take this sector of the city. - He said while he was pointing at the holomap. - According to intelligence, thanks to the actions of General Skywalker a huge energy shield was deactivated and with that our artillery is safe. But this area is too far and must be reviewed in detail. The droids could be around any corner. Stay tuned and don't be fooled. There may be thousands of them among the many streets. They are ready? -
Clones: - Yes, sir. -
The scream of the clones took Roy by surprise, who had not expected such a reaction. Captain Hammer certainly commanded the respect of his comrades.
Pilot: - Enemy fire! -
Upon the pilot's warning, the shuttles began to shake before the gunfire coming over the ground. Blasters of all calibers hit the shuttle's fuselage, while a LAAT/i could be heard exploding dangerously close to them.
Hammer: - Open the floodgates! -
Upon the order, the side hatches of the transports were opened, allowing the troops to view the ground targets. Automatically, the clones began to return fire, as hundreds of droids were seen firing at the transports with everything they had. Roy stayed in the back of the shuttle by not carrying a weapon to shoot, but when he saw a clone he was shot and fell dead on the floor of the shuttle everything changed.
Roy moved to the edge of the hatch and switched on the lightsaber, accurately reflecting the incoming blasters. There were many, but the Padawan did his best to keep everyone safe.
Roy: - Not to resist too much like this! -
Hammer: - We have to get to the landing zone. -
Roy: - I hope to make it alive. -
Hammer: - Me too. Ha ha ha. -The clone's laugh made Roy believe that he was crazy, but when he saw that his partner didn't even flinch, he simply ignored him thinking it was normal.
Pilot: - States arriving in the area, sir. -
Hammer: - The time has come, gentlemen! All ready! -
The LAAT/i descended on a plaza that was moderately protected by the droids, who did not stop firing on the transports. The first LAAT/i landed, leaving the clones as quickly as possible so others could leave their troops on the battlefield. In just a few seconds, the clones managed to set up an improvised line of defense, until the rest of the troops arrived to fight.
Hammer descended from the shuttle taking cover from the shots until he reached cover, when suddenly the young Padawan passed him at high speed.
Hammer: - No, Roy. Wait... -
The clone tried to stop him, but when he raised his head he saw Roy in the front line, using his lightsaber to deflect all the shots that were going towards that position. His defense was unbreakable, something befitting a user as gifted with Soresu as Roy himself was.
Clone Lieutenant: - Not bad. -
Hammer: - Ha. Damn braggart. -He said with a mocking smile on his face, seeing how he cleared the way for them. - To all troops! Follow the Lieutenant! -
The clones left their cover and began to advance, closely following the skilled Padawan who had unknowingly concentrated most of the enemy fire on his position. The B1 droids, which were what made up the enemy troops in its entirety, could not do anything to stop the aggressive advance of the clones, who, like a white tide, wiped out everything in their path.
After a few minutes of combat, the area seemed to fall under Republic control. The clones had finished sweeping the area for droids, and were just patrolling to be sure. Hammer ordered his lieutenants to meet his in the plaza, a meeting which Roy attended.
Hammer: - Very well, gentlemen. I received a message from the commander. We will move east to support the rest. -
Lieutenant 1: - Surely they didn't expect us to take the sector so quickly. -
Lieutenant 2: - You don't even say it. - Everyone focused their gaze on the young Padawan.
Roy- what? He asked confused.
Hammer: - I think I know why not.
Men went under your command. -
Roy: - What do you mean? -
Hammer: - You are a great swordsman and you can face a large number of enemies by yourself. But that's not being a good officer. -
Roy: - I only did... what I thought was right. -
Hammer: - For you. -
Lieutenant: - Yes boy. We can't keep up with you. -
Roy: - I... I'm sorry. -
Hammer: - It's not a scolding. It's a lesson. A good officer guides his people while he sees the whole picture and makes the best decision. He first thinks, then acts. -
Roy was stunned before those words. He thought Hammar was another wrestling fanatic just like him, but now he could see the big difference. Within that confident shell that covered him, Hammer proved to be an experienced captain and one who knew how to analyze the situation. In fact, now that he thought about it in detail, it didn't take Hammer two seconds to see the opening he had created. He worthy of someone who knows how the battlefield works. Roy wondered how incredible the clones could be, since on Coruscant they were only seen as war machines. Not unlike droids. It was clear that he had to learn much more than just military code.
Hammer: - Fuck. You are just like the commander. -
The captain's comment and the mocking laughter of the rest of the Lieutenants took Roy out of his thoughts. Looking curiously to understand what they meant.
Roy: - The commander? Impossible. He is too serious and strict with the rules. - The clones looked at each other for a few seconds, and laughed out loud again. - That? -
Hammer: - You'll understand when you meet him. - He said as he wiped a tear from his eyes from laughing so much. - Let's continue for now. We have a whole city to liberate. -
