Cap. 11 - Elite
Roy could tell the seriousness of the situation depending on the way his master Pablo called him to the command post. And when the Ongree said, "Right away," it was because something wasn't right.
The young padawan had to leave a game of cards he had with his platoon mates to head to the command post of his capital ship, only to find a war meeting between his master, Commander Tukk, and members of the Jedi council.
Around the holoprojector table were four blue silhouettes that Roy knew very well from his time at the Jedi Temple. These were none other than Mace Windu himself, Yoda, Ki-Adi-Mundi and Kit Fisto.
Pablo: - Young Roy, just in time. Masters, my Padawan has arrived. - He said when he saw him enter through the doors of the premises.
All the teachers of the council stopped looking at the holoprojection table to look at the young man who had just arrived, although the looks of each teacher differed considerably. Yoda was playful, knowing his temperament and his resemblance to Skywalker himself. Kit Fisto, as usual, smiled at him when he saw him, although he always smiled at everyone. Ki-Adi-Mundi looked at him thoughtfully, as if he were analyzing the young man who gave off so much mystery during his stay in the temple. And Mace looked at him stoically, even a little defiantly, he didn't like Roy's manner. It was as if he could see through her being. He himself opposed the idea of sending the Padawan to the battlefield, but as with Anakin Skywalker, the rest of the council's opinions opposed his.
But along with all those projections, there was a fifth projection. An image that Roy had only seen on posts and advertisements in the Republic. It was Chancellor Palpatine himself.
Roy: - A pleasure to see you again, teachers, chancellor. - Despite the stares, Roy managed to maintain his composure and greet his superiors properly.
Yoda: - Good. We all already here are. The meeting begin must . -
Pablo: - What is the situation? -
Kit Fisto: - We have received alarming reports from a distant planet called Cyrkon. Located in Hutt Space, on the borders of the outer rim. -
Pablo: - The Hutts? What's going on? -
Ki-Adi-Mundi: - Reports say that a group of Separatists are making agreements with the Hutts. Very dangerous agreements for the Republic. -
Pablo: - I thought that the Hutts remained neutral in this entire galactic conflict. -
Mace Windu: - It is most likely not the direct work of the Hutt clan, but someone is using his name and influence to deal with the enemy. Your mission will be to find and deactivate that contact at any cost. -
Palpatine: - General Pablo. It is extremely important to carry out this task with great discretion. The Hutts are a major force in the galaxy, and turning them against us will not be good for our cause. -
Pablo: - Yes, chancellor. We will act as a small force so as not to arouse suspicion. -
Yoda: - Discretion in this mission exercised must be. Alerting the Hutt clan to our operations in Cyrkon would be better. In your judgment we will trust, Master Pablo. -
Pablo: - That's how it will be. May the Forces be with you, teachers, chancellor. -
All: - May the Force be with you. -
One by one, all the holograms disconnected, Ki-Adi-Mundi being the first, followed by Master Fisto. Next was Master Mace, but not before seeing young Roy with some distrust, something that did not go unnoticed by many. Next was Chancellor Palpatine, who was not only very courteous in his speech, but also gave the young Padawan a slight smile. And finally, Master Yoda, who did the same as the chancellor.
Roy: - An interesting group... without a doubt. -
Pablo: - The Council of Masters usually has its own point of view on many issues, and the Hutt clan is something that the Order will have to execute once this war is over. I just hope that what Master Windu said is correct, because if a Hutt is behind these trade agreements we will have serious problems. -
Roy: - It is not surprising that the Order has so many disagreements with the Hutts, our principles are completely opposite. -
Pablo: - That is correct, young Padawan. But as the chancellor said, it would not be good to antagonize the Hutts during the war against the Separatist Alliance. We'll take care of those when all this is over. Come on. Our ship awaits us. -
Pablo and Roy began walking through the halls of Venator towards the hangars, where the rest of the team was waiting for them.
Roy: - He mentioned that we would be a small team. How many of us will participate? -
Pablo: - A group of more than six would raise suspicions. So we will be a small elite group and we will pose as smugglers. -
Roy: - And I suppose we will have to use a ship that is not owned by the Republic. -
Pablo: - That is correct. That's why we have acquired... This one. -
Roy: - Are you serious? -
When the teacher led his student to the hangar, he was not very impressed. It was an old XS light freighter, produced by the Corellian Engineering Corporation during the times of the Old Republic. A relic in these times.
Pablo: - Don't be fooled, young Padawan. This ship is more than it seems. -
?????: - The general is right, Lieutenant Roy. -
When Roy and Pablo looked to the side, they found a group of clones that they knew very well. Present were Commander Tukk, Captain Hammer and two other clones that, although Roy had not had as close an interaction as the previous ones, he knew from his stay in the army corps.
Pablo: - Lieutenant Tesla. Does everything seem to want to tell us something? -
CT-7281 was Lieutenant Tesla. He was the classic example of someone who loved technology. He himself chose his name in commemoration of a scientist from past eras that he admired so much, and his passion for technology had led him to be one of the most important clones of the 194th. He carried a DC-15A blaster, and had a very good aim.
Tesla: - Eighty-eight meters in length, one hundred and one meters in wingspan and twenty-seven meters in height. It has an impressive load capacity for its size. Hyprepopulsor and class 1 shield generator, and two HSG-67 laser cannons from Armas Sonniver. In addition to having missile batteries. -
Pablo: - Lieutenant Doss. Is everything ready? -
Lieutenant Doss, CT-1843, was a pretty quiet guy. He enjoyed listening more than talking, but he was extremely effective on the battlefield. He began his career as a field medic, and gradually rose through the ranks in the 194th until reaching the rank of lieutenant. He carried two DC-17 blasters on either side of his belt, although it is said that he has never killed anyone with them. Only the droids were in their sights.
Doss: - Everyone is ready to go, general. -
Roy: - That thing... «Can it fly?» -
Hammer: - Don't worry, Lieutenant Roy. "It may not be pretty, but it is tough." - (Reference for other fans)
Roy: - If you say so. -
Pablo: - Enough talk, gentlemen. It's time to leave. Commander, prepare everything to leave immediately. -
Tukk: - Yes, sir. You heard gentlemen. On going.
And after several minutes, the XS freighter left the Impoluto's hangars, launching the very delicate mission that was assigned to it. Hammer took command of the controls, as this was the best pilot present only after the general, while the rest stood by while the ship traveled through hyperspace.
In order not to raise suspicions, the clones had to leave their armor aside, to pose as a group of mercenaries accompanying two mysterious hooded individuals, who would be Pablo and Roy. For that, they took armor that was somewhat outdated, but would be useful for this mission.
Hammer: - Rg... This helmet is very uncomfortable. -
Tukk: - You'll get used to it. -
Doss: - At least you can breathe easy. You have more protection than us. -
Hammer: - I thought the plastoid was heavy, but these metal plates far exceed it. -
Tesla: - They are somewhat old-fashioned but they will be useful to go unnoticed. No one will think we are clones with this. -
Tukk: - There you are absolutely right. -
But while the clones were having a fairly casual conversation in the cockpit, Pablo and Roy were having a much less pleasant conversation.
Pablo: - Roy, as you can imagine, we are not allowed to reveal our identities in this mission. -
Roy: - Yes, teacher. -
Pablo: - Therefore, today we are going to do something that I don't really agree with. -
Roy: - What do you mean? -
Pablo: - Not being able to use your lightsabers... I know you will be at a disadvantage when things get complicated. I can use force, but as you said... you are limited. -
Roy: - I know, teacher. I will try not to be a hindrance to you and the rest. -
Pablo: - That's not an option either. There are too few of us in this mission, and every force is of vital importance. That's why... I will allow you to use a blaster, despite it being against all the principles I have learned. -
Roy: - Master... Are you sure? -
Pablo: - No. I'm not. And a big part of me tells me that's not right. But I don't see any other alternative. Sometimes as Jedi we must make difficult decisions, and this is one of them. Clones are soldiers by nature. They know how to wield a blaster since they are children and grow up with improved capabilities for such a task. So I'd like Tukk to train you a little before you get to Cyrkon. -
Roy: - With all due respect, teacher... But I think that's not necessary. -
Pablo: - What do you mean? - His surprise was clearly visible on his face.
Roy: - I know how to use a blaster, and my cyber eye gives me an improved precision capability. -
Pablo: - Is that true? -
Roy: - Yes, teacher. In short, I will be able to function using a firearm without any problem. -
Pablo: - It's good to know. But tell me... Where did you learn to use a blaster? -
Roy: - When you have my condition you must look for other ways to fight. My saber is my most precious tool, but I know it is not enough. I spent part of my training at the Coruscant military academy, where I trained as a recruit like any other. There I learned everything I could about weapons, explosives and strategy. Although to be honest, I never thought I would use that knowledge on the battlefield. -
Pablo: - That is why the path of the Jedi is so unpredictable, and their training has to be arduous every day to be prepared for what may happen. This war took us all by surprise, and we lost many good Jedi on the first day. -
Roy: - Geonosis. -
Pablo: - Yes. Geonosis. I was there, and I can say that it was the worst day for the Order. If it had not been for the arrival of Master Yoda and the clone army, I would surely not be your teacher now. - The atmosphere was becoming somewhat sad on the part of the Jedi master, but he still continued. - Therefore, my young padawan. I will do everything I can to make you a good Jedi. I know that there are many things that I cannot teach you, and there are many others that you must learn on your own, but if there is one thing I can assure you, it is that I will be there to help you. -
Roy let out a slight smile upon hearing those words. Without a doubt that had reached the depths of his being, and he was extremely grateful, although he had many doubts to what extent that would be possible.
Roy: - Thank you, ,master.
