(XXI) Borders.
"The idea of going to Coruscant, I have to admit, was a bit rash, but I felt like there was no time to waste. In fact, if I stopped to think about it for a few seconds, it was probably the worst decision I've ever made in my life, but no. I had a choice.
What I saw in that tomb kept turning my head over and over again. I couldn't explain that was what happened. Were they dreams, my imagination? Or was something else going on? For better or for worse, I wasn't going to leave things half done.
Despite not being clearly thinking, I remember being extremely alienated after taking the jump. Kilo still didn't seem sure of the idea.
Kilo: - Mr. Rage. Are you sure this is a good idea? -
Rage: - No I know... only... I know that Hina is in trouble. -
Kilo: - How do you know? We haven't had any kind of communication with her since we left Kiros. -
Rage: - I know, Kilo. It's... kind of hard to explain. But... I can feel it. I can feel that she's in trouble. -
Kilo: - That is illogical and irrational. Your arguments are meaningless. -
Rage: - I know! - I yelled something upset. - I know. But I have to do it. - I calmed down a bit.
For a few minutes the cabin was rather awkwardly silent. Kilo was trying to process things using data, but this type of thing I don't think a droid can understand. And when I least expected it, Kilo asked me a question I didn't see coming.
Kilo: - I must ask. Why the sudden concern for the safety of miss Hina? -
Rage: - What are you talking about? I'm worried about her, nothing more. -
Kilo: - Are you sure it's just that? Doesn't it have something to do with some hormonal process? -
Rage: - Kilo. I literally have no idea what you mean. -
Kilo: - In my database it says that there is a time when organic creatures are attracted to each other. A process where the body releases a large amount of hormones. To which you organics call: sexual attraction. -
Rage: - Wh... wh... wh... what are you talking about? - I said surprised and very sorry. - No... no... no... it's nothing like that. How do you come up with those things? -
Kilo: - I'm just analyzing male behavior... -
Rage: - Kilo! That's... that's... enough. - "
Someone interrupts the recording again. Rage turns around for a moment and returns to his position somewhat embarrassed. And he start talking after clearing his throat.
"As I was saying. After the very... very awkward conversation, we exited hyperspace and found ourselves a few click of Coruscant.
Kilo: - Sir. We will not be able to pass the border guard. What are we going to do? -
Rage: - Calm down, Kilo. Just trust me. -
Kilo: - I have to say that this does not give me much confidence. -
It didn't even pass some seconds, and two Coruscant border guard ships closed in and flew alongside us.
Officer: - Ship 114-YT8. Your signature is not on. We need to see your ID if you want to land on Coruscant. -
Rage: - Immediately officer. Here I send them. - I said when I pressed the button to activate the ship's communicator.
Kilo: - This seems like a very bad idea to me. -
Official: - Your signature does not appear in the records of the Republic. Can you explain why? -
Rage: - I just bought the ship in Corellia. I was planning to check in once I landed on Coruscant. -
Officer: - Corellia is a planet in our jurisdiction. You should have registered your ship with the Corellian offices. -
Rage: - I know, officer. And I'm so sorry for my confusion. I promise it won't happen again. - After that there was a small and uncomfortable silence.
Officer: - What are your reasons for visiting Coruscant? -
Rage: - I come to visit an old friend. -
Kilo: - Really? Was that the best you could come up with? -
Rage: - Do you want to shut up? -
Kilo: - We are fried. -
After a few seconds without getting answers from the officer I started to feel a little nervous. I thought the worst could happen. Fortunately we were lucky.
Officer: - Very well. Your request has been confirmed. Go immediately to the office's procedure to register your ship in the system. -
Rage: - Thank you very much, Officer. Forgive the inconvenience. -
Officer: - It's not a bother. With all this war... it is common that many ships arrive on the planet without a record. -
Rage: - Thank you, officer. Have a nice day. -
The two border guard ships dispersed, letting us move toward Coruscant. I was able to relax a bit back then, although poor Kilo looked very confused.
Kilo: - Impressive. I honestly didn't think it was possible. -
Rage: - See? What did your calculations say? -
Kilo: - That our chances of success were less than 1%? Heh. Mr Rage. Over there there is the registry office. The border official told us that... - Kilo stopped speaking when he saw my disapproving face, and after a few seconds, he understood my intentions.
If we wanted to go unnoticed, we had to get away from the surface. Highly populated areas, commercial areas, or shipyards were places to be avoided at all costs. I navigated the surface of the planet for a few minutes looking for a good place to land, and that's when I found it. A huge hole in the structure around the planet that descended to the lower levels. That was my input.
I descended slowly, and I have to admit that it was not what I expected to see. It had never been to Coruscant before, but when we studied it on Tipoca, the records said it was a prosperous city, where everyone lived happily and all that nonsense. But the difference between the surface and the lower levels was noticeable. The lower levels were dark and cold, and worst of all, the citizens looked quite sad and exhausted. Another of the many lies of the Republic.
Finally, after having descended several kilometers, we found an empty landing platform. So I decided to take it. But the welcome was not very warm.
It was enough to land for a very moody kubaz came towards us shouting and ordering us to leave the place, which was not a civil port. But I knew how to deal with these situations. The kubaz fell silent when he put a couple of credits in his hand.
Rage: - I'll give you the other half if my ship... doesn't suffer any damage. Do you agree? -
The kubaz gladly accepted. And with a push of a button, the platform retracted, sealing itself under the massive metal frame. Very well. I had already reached Coruscant, already found a good spot for my ship. Now all that remained was to find Hina among the millions and millions of inhabitants that the planet had."
