(XX) The Dark Side. Part II
"I have to admit that when I saw the stone sarcophagus I was paralyzed, scared. I could feel something, something dark and gloomy, something that made my brain scream at me to come back. Still, I stayed to see what I could find.
Then, without warning, some kind of red dust began to emanate from the sarcophagus. The dust crystallized into small fragments of rocks that gradually rose up, reaching a height of more than three meters, forming the silhouette of a humanoid being.
The presence of the being was overwhelming and chilling. My body trembled, paralyzed. I wanted to run, but I just couldn't move a muscle. The entity made of rock and a kind of red miasma inside it stared at me with its bright yellow eyes that its armored mask allowed me to see.
Slowly, the entity began to descend from its pedestal and began to float around me. I tried to follow him with my eyes, but there was a point where I couldn't move anymore. The second that the entity passed behind me it was so terrifying that I thought my heart had stopped. Even held my breath involuntarily. But luckily, the entity completed its turn and unemployment towering right in front of me. And just when I thought I couldn't be scared anymore, the entity began to speak to me with a chilling tone of voice.
Entity: - What is supposed to be you? - He asked me, but I was unable to give him an answer when I was paralyzed. - You are not a Jedi... you are not a Sith... your mere existence is a mystery. -
Rage: - I... am a... clone. A... ex... soldier... of the Republic. - I said stuttering.
Entity: - That was not what I meant. Tell me. Do you know who I am? -
Rage: - No... no I know. -
Enter: - I am... Darth Bane. The one who created the rule of two and passed on his legacy to a single apprentice. -
Rage: - Rule of two?...That is that? -
Bane: - Hmm. Despite your strength, there is much you still don't know. Tell me. Why did you come? -
Rage: - I... I... don't know. - I said something confused and terrified.
Bane: - Hmm. I see. Tell me. Have you come to become my apprentice? -
Anger: - What? No, is not that -
Death Bane interrupted me with a violent outburst of anger. His stony body turned red, since hundreds of electric shocks came out of the stones that made it up and impacted against the walls of the tomb.
Bane: - You insolent fool! - He yelled at me full of hate. - I offer you unlimited power and you dare to reject it!? You know nothing! Your pathetic existence will be extinguished with the pass of time! And no one will remember you. -
Rage: - I've been a deserter! I have seen my brothers die in vain in a war that was not ours! And I've already been long forgotten before you told me! - I dared to answer him, although the truth was still scared to death.
Bane: - Tell me, mortal. You're scared of me? - He asked me calmly, but with the same chilling voice.
Rage: - No... I'm not afraid of you. -
At that precise moment the entity laughed at me, and I don't blame it, because my whole body was shaking. Bane slowly approached me and placed both of his hands right next to my head. I couldn't do anything, I tried to move, but this time I wasn't paralyzed by fear, there was something else holding me back.
I remember that from one moment to the next I felt very tired. I felt exhausted, faint. And I passed out right in front of the scary center.
My mind went blank or rather...black. I couldn't see anything, but I was conscious or so I thought. I don't know how to explain it yet. But what happened next was far beyond my understanding.
I started having dreams or visions. Dark visions of me From my past. Of my present. Of my future. I remember seeing the corpse of Prig, lying in the sewers of Christophsis, in exactly the same position in which he was leaving, and when I got close enough, he raised his head. His face was disfigured and covered in rot.
Prig: - Why did you leave Rage? Why did you abandon us? -
Rage: - Prig... no... it wasn't my intention. You... you were already... dead. - I said stuttering.
Prig: - Why!? -
His deep, loud cry shook my head, causing me terrible pain. I squeezed my eyes shut, but woke up to hear the voice of the captain who ordered us to hold the position.
Captain: - Rage. Rage soldier. What's going on? The droids outnumber us. You did not comply with the order, soldier... and now... and now we are all going to die. -
Rage: - No... No! - I screamed desperately.
I tried to turn and run. But where? Everywhere I looked was an endless dark void. Then, Hina's blurry silhouette appeared right in from my.
Hina: - You're a deserter. There isn't a worthy shame for a soldier. -
Rage: - No Hina. I... I can explain.
Hina: - Lie! -
The screams that I heard over and over again echoed in my head. I thought I was going to lose my sanity. Then I saw even worse things. I saw thousands of bodies of my brothers fallen on a huge and endless desert. The image was heartbreaking. Thousands of us, or millions, there. Thrown away as if they were nothing. The darkness returned to devour all my vision, and I could see a black silhouette with a red lightsaber in the distance. I could only see his body, a kind of combination between machine and human, and he had a breath that made me give a strong ache chill in the back.
Finally, in the last vision I found myself in a dark alley of a great metropolis. I knew where I was... it was Coruscant. Why had my visions brought me there? I was wondering. I looked around and just could see a garbage can. I approached slowly, and I could see what looked like a corpse wrapped in paper and plastic. The body of a humanoid creature at least eight feet tall. I approached slowly. The smell was unbearable. I took my saberlaser and I cut the wrapper to see inside, but what I saw left me in shock.
It was a disfigured face, among the rot and contamination of the place, but I knew who it was. I was Hina.
That creepy vision jerked me up. I was extremely upset. My heart wanted to jump out of my chest. And my breathing was uncontrollable. My whole body was sweating and my hands would not stop shaking. I looked around and I could see that I still was inside the tomb, but Death Bane was gone.
I thought that had been enough. My heart and mind couldn't take any more emotions. So I ran out of the grave as fast as I could. Outside, on the other side, the sandstorm had stopped, and not far away, I could see my ship landed on the platform.
It didn't make any sense. I mean. I walked through several days to get to the grave. Was I always so close and just went around in circles? Well, the truth I never knew.
I ran towards the ship and there I was greeted by an astonished Kilo.
Kilo: - Oh. Mr Rage. That was faster than expected. Did you find what you came looking for? -
Rage: - No I know, Kilo. And... what do you mean "fast"? I was out there for several days. -
Kilo: - I'm afraid it's incorrect sir. Not even 10 minutes have passed since you left the ship. - Kilo's comment only left more doubts in my confused head. - Mister. Everything is alright? You looks somewhat...pale. -
Rage: - Yes... yes. I'm fine. Come on. No time to lose. - I told him while I went quickly to the cabin.
Kilo: - Time to lose? What are you talking about? Where are we going? -
Rage: - Fast Kilo. Take sit. We must go to Coruscant immediately. -"
