(VIII) Give up everything.
"I ran through the drains until I could take no more, carrying Brig on my shoulders. I finally reached a place in the drainage system where we could rest. I sat Brig down on one of the metal pipes and collapsed next to him. I was so tired that my legs were shaking and my stomach ached.
When I got my breath back, I managed to get to my feet and tried to wake Brig, but he wasn't responding. It seemed strange to me that since we went down the drain he hadn't said a word. And it was because he was dead."
Recording was interrupted.
"Yeah already. I'm fine now."
It seemed to talk to someone else.
"After I found out that Brig was... you know. I think I lost control. My memories of that moment are very blurry, and it seemed that I was not aware of what I was doing. I only remember that the same voice that I heard before yelled at me:
????: - Stop! -
And I was able to come to myself. When I opened my eyes I was in shock. The walls had huge cracks and burn marks. As if lightning had struck that place. But it was underground. How was it possible? Also the rust from the metal pipes around me had come loose with a bang. Was it me again? I remember I thought.
Despite everything, I was still upset. I blamed the captain for abandoning us to our fate. And he was determined not to return. I know that I am a clone and that it was my duty. But I was not willing to die in vain. So I walked away leaving Brig's body behind. Sorry, my friend. I couldn't do anything to help you."
He takes a moment to wipe the tears from his eyes.
"I walked for a while until I found a hatch that led to the surface. So, I went up to see where I was. I was located several kilometers from the battlefield. I couldn't go back. So I had to figure out a way to leave the planet without being seen.
The spaceports would surely be under the control of some of the two factions, but surely somewhere in the city there must be a ship that would be of use to me.
The footsteps of the droids could be felt nearby. I knew I was in hostile territory. So I had to be careful.
I managed to climb one of the tallest buildings in the area and finally saw it. My escape route. A few blocks from my position was a Separatist Sheathipede-class transport shuttle over a small port in one of the buildings. I'm sure he was surrounded by droids. But it was my best option.
I managed to get close without being detected. I had left my blaster in the drain. So my only weapon was the lightsaber. Which did not know how to use more than imitate the movements that I had seen before. Although my combat knife training could come in handy. Or at least I thought so.
As expected, the building was guarded by several battle droids. I had to find a way to get in other than through the front door. Fortunately, the emergency stairs were my best option.
The ship was above the 50th floor. And you can't imagine how difficult it was to climb all those stairs with the armor on.
I finally got to the right floor, but I was exhausted. And to add to my bad luck, there were four droids guarding the shuttle. Four B2 droids.
I wasn't sure if I could use that force again. Also, damaging the ship would not be an option. So I had to find a way to destroy them one by one. Two of the droids left the area, apparently they was their patrol time. If I could distract them somehow I could get closer without being discovered. I was also afraid that the other two droids would discover me during their patrol.
It occurred to me to throw the ration bin to the side of the room in the hope that they would be attracted by the noise. And I never thought it would work. With the droids ignoring my presence I was able to sneak up behind their backs and slice one in half. The other tried to turn around, but I managed to reach him first.
I would never have imagined how easy it was to cut through the hard metal of droids with a lightsaber. I mean, those B2s were capable of withstanding several shots from our blasters, so defeating them so easily was impressive to me.
I managed to sneak into the shuttle and close the doors before the other two droids returned from their patrols. I had never seen the inside of a Sheathipede before, but luckily the controls were very similar to the simulators we used on Kamino.
I piloted the shuttle into outer space only to be met with a clash between the Separatist and Republic fleets. I remember an X-wing started following me while shooting at me, and I don't blame him, because I was on a Separatist ship after all.
With no way to defend myself, I had no choice but to jump into hyperspace. Just hoping not to hit anything on the way."
