Chap. 77 - A Tough Nut to Crack
Icarus: - I really didn't think that was going to work. -
Kurt: - Hehe. You may be a super analysis droid and all... but I know how to "treat" people. -
Icarus: - I remind you that this body does not have the ability to analyze emotions. Furthermore, I would never have thought that an imperial officer would be so incompetent. -
Kurt: - You'd be surprised. -
Wag Too: - Can we get back to focusing on the mission? This Gonk suit is incredibly uncomfortable. -
Icarus: - Everyone already has their assignments. Go to your designated position and wait for my call. Kurt, Wag Too I will continue to the shipyards. -
After listening to his commands, each droid dispersed around the station and posed as another soldier of the garrison, imitating making searches, and even completing tasks like any other stoormtroper. In fact, these upgraded units were as good at integrating, and even interacted with other troops, as any human being. Meanwhile, the stoormtroper and the two "droids" headed to the place where they were supposed to find their contact.
Kurt: - And can we know how we will find it? The senator gave us no clue as to his appearance. -
Icarus: - The senator said that we could recognize it without any problem. Although I don't know the reason. -
Kurt: - Are you serious? Did he just say that? -
Wag Too: - I suppose there is something that identifies her. Maybe a symbol that we can recognize. Or maybe...
?????: - Hello! May I know what the hell you are doing!? -
Apparently the gazebo was right. Well, as soon as they arrived, the voice of an annoying Sullustan echoed in that part of the shipyards. And from among all the hustle and bustle of machinery and metal pieces moving from one side to the other, a very energetic and grumpy human woman of about twenty years old or a little more appeared.
Holdo: - What do you want now, grumpy old man!? Don't you see I'm busy!? -
Sullustano: - That piece doesn't go that way! If you put it like this you are going to invert the connectors! -
Holdo: - Oh... ¡Mi culpa! -
Sullustano: - These young people today... -
The Sullustan left cursing some things in his native language, passing by Kurt, Icarus and Wat Too without even paying attention to them.
Icarus: - Fence. That was very rude. - He said when he heard the alien speak.
Kurt: - So... Is it her? -
Icarus: - It seems so. -
Kurt: - Well... I guess I'll have to "talk to her." -
Wag Too: - Are you sure this is a good idea? -
Icarus: - I agree. It will be better if I talk to her. -
Kurt: - Hey guys. Don't worry. I know how to deal with ladies. -
Wag Too: - Oh no... It's going to be the same as with Vírtany. -
Icarus: - What happened to Vítany? -
Wag Too: - Better not to know. -
And there he went. Kurt carried his cosca attached to his waist with his hand, letting his blonde hair flow freely. His peculiar snow-white eyes showed a stunning smile, and those blue eyes were a delight to behold. Furthermore, its aquiline fascial features gave it a natural beauty, as if it had been personally sculpted by the great Michelangelo. Too bad about those scars he had, if not he were a perfect portrait of an angel. And he knew it.
Kurt: - Hello beautiful. So you are the famous Holdo. I've heard a lot about you. -
Very different from what Kurt thought, the human stopped screwing those pieces and looked at him with an indifference never seen before. Maybe even with a little disgust. Something that, of course, Kurt had not noticed, who seemed to want to turn her on with those shiny teeth that he showed to the four winds.
Holdo: - What's wrong, soldier? Did your face get cold from lack of oxygen? -
Kurt's face was beyond compare. His smile was still stuck under his nose, but his eyes showed immediate confusion. This was definitely not the reaction he expected, and things only went from bad to worse.
Kurt: - This... I don't... It's just... -
Holdo: - Listen soldier. I don't care what reasons bring you here but I need you to leave. As you can see... I have more important things to do than deal with your cerebral palsy. -
Even Icarus without his enhanced core could feel some pity for him, so much so that, unlike Wag Too who was enjoying the show, he decided to intervene.
Icarus: - Excuse my partner. It was not our intention to bother her. -
Holdo: - A security droid has to come to your rescue? That's... Unexpected. -
Kurt: - Hey... Nobody has to... -
Icarus:-"They say that Naboo birds tend to sing earlier in spring." -
War: - "Too high for those who want to sleep in the morning." -He laughed with amusement knowing that it was them he was waiting for. - Okay... Yes, they were late. Come on. Follow me. -
The woman took off her work gloves and glasses and threw them on a table, at the same time she took a napkin to wipe off some of the sweat as she left the place followed by the stormtrooper and the two droids.
Kurt: - Did they have a secret key or something...? Why did not you tell me? -
Icarus: - You never asked. -
Kurt: - Seras... -
Sullustane: - Hey! Deep! Where do you think you are going!? Those pieces should be ready by this afternoon! - He shouted when he saw her leaving the place.
Holdo: - Sorry, grumpy old man! But as you can see I have more important things right now! - It was then that the foreman saw Kurt dressed as a stormtrooper next to the security droid.
Sullustano: - May I know what trouble you're in now!? -
Holdo did not answer that question. At least not verbally, and instead, he gave her a rather crazy face with a couple of somewhat obscene hand gestures. Holdo was acting rather immature in the droid's opinion, seriously questioning whether this resistance contact was really competent for this mission, but Senator Organa had a good opinion of her, and that was something she couldn't ignore, even if it was hard for her not to.
Holdo: - They took longer than expected. It was supposed to arrive one rotation ago. -
Icarus: - Traveling on unconventional routes takes more time than expected. -
Holdo: - And who are you? The head in charge or something like that? -
Icarus: - You could say yes. -
Holdo: - Fence. That they trust a droid more than you must be painful. Isn't that right, stormtrooper? - He said with a grimace to Kurt.
Kurt: - Are you that unbearable all the time? Or am I a special case? -
Holdo: - Not at all, in fact... -
Icarus: - I would appreciate it if you did not deviate from our mission. If you would be so kind. -
The droid only internally cursed himself for being next to these two. How could two organics who barely knew each other get along so badly? And in the middle of a suicide mission? Even if his enhanced core could determine the idiocy of the organics in this situation.
Holdo: - Vaaaaale... Although it wasn't my fault. -
Kurt: - Seras... -
Holdo: - The terminal they have to access is located near the maximum security shipyards. It won't be easy. Even with their costumes they are going to need more than that to enter. -
Icarus: - We'll take care of that. -
Holdo: - I hope so, because I do not have authorization to enter that area and... I think that a private soldier will not be able to either. - He said in a mocking tone, addressing Kurt, who did not hesitate to show his discontent.
Icarus: - You don't have to worry about that. The team we have is more than prepared for this task. -
Holdo: - I hope so. The second team is already in position waiting for you. -
Icarus: - Second team? The senator did not mention anything about a second team. -
Holdo: - Don't ask me. I haven't spoken to the gazebo since I infiltrated here. I only know the keys and the ship's information. -
Icarus: - I think... it would be better if you introduced us to this second team. I want to know everything before executing a plan. -
Holdo: - It's over here. Follow me. -
This was something unexpected, especially for Icarus. The droid already had an idea of how to infiltrate, although it was quite risky, but if they had more troops they could execute a less risky plan. The question was whether these new individuals would be able to rise to such a dangerous mission. What the droid did not know was that they were, and in spades.
The small group led by Holdo entered a sector of the station where they seemed to be manufacturing different parts for the ships that were manufactured there. The noise was deafening, welding chips splashed everywhere and the smell of molten metal was intoxicating. Rough species from all over the galaxy worked in such extreme conditions, where the heat was even stronger than on the sands of Tatoine.
Icarus watched every movement around him, despite the hurried pace with which Holdo led them. Something that was quite difficult for poor Wag Too in that uncomfortable Gonk suit. And then he saw them.
Near the welding areas, strong men looked up at the group. They were definitely human, although the welding masks and protective gear covered most of their bodies. Holdos looked back at them, and with a slight nod of the head, they responded.
There were three of them, who stopped what they were doing and very discreetly began to walk behind them, making the three who were in front nervous. They didn't know why, but those three individuals, for some reason, sent shivers down their spines. Even to Icarus, who literally could not experience such a sensation.
As soon as they left that part of the factory, they entered a fairly remote place, one that apparently did not have much security. One that Holdo herself had established as a meeting point in case of emergency. And once there, the three men removed the welding masks from their heads, revealing their true identity. One that, to the surprise of the other organics, were clones.
Clone 1: - Are they the ones Senator Organa sent? -
Clone 2: - A droid. I don't like this idea. -
Clone 3: - If the senator sent it we don't have many alternatives. -
Kurt: - Fence. I see that they trust you, general. -
Icarus: - Calm down. It is not the first time this has happened. -
It was obvious that these clones were not very comfortable with the presence of Icarus, and they were not even seeing his true form, but at that moment there was a mission to accomplish and little time to waste.
Holdo: - Well, we're all here. General Icarus, meet Commander Boss and Commandos Fixes and Sev. -
Icarus: - A pleasure to meet you, commander. -
