Chap. 35 -Not machine at all

Two months before:

Tova: -Wag Too. Wag Too! - Shouted the little girl in the streets of the Oasis.

Wag Too: - Hey. What's all the fuss about? - He said turning around.

Apparently it was a casual day on the streets of Oasis. A few months had passed since his arrival, but by now everyone knew the super commando droids and his crew. The lurmen strolled through the streets of the haven, browsing the small craft stalls in the alley of small artisans and jewelers.

Tova: - I need to find Icarus. Do you know where it is? -

Wag Too: - The last time I saw him he told me he had to go out and investigate something. I don't know how long it takes. Something wrong? -

Tova: - No. I just wanted to tell you about something I did with Stela and the other children. Nothing interesting. -

Wag Too: - Hmm. That sounds interesting. Know? Icarus may not be found, but you can tell me if you want. -

Tova: - Seriously? -

Wag Too: - Sure. And if you want, come with me. I'm looking for something... "special." -

Tova: - Is it for Miss Miraj? -

Wag Too: - Shhhh. - He said embarrassed.

-------------------------------------------------- -------O------------------------------------------ --------------

The superdroid used to occasionally leave the Oasis and personally check out many areas of the planet. He used to go to supervise the mines or the progress of the repair of the Munificent. Sometimes I would walk through the huge air decontamination fields or take a look at the windmills. He was rarely seen dawdling, but on this day, it was somewhat...unusual.

Icarus was in the passenger seat of a speeder. Something had him distracted, something he couldn't know what it was, but for some reason, he seemed to know where to go. Alpha, the commando droid, was driving his speeder in a remote direction, to a place that was off all roads and maps in the area.

Despite having risen early in the morning, the bright midday sun announced the hottest hour on the surface, but Alpha did not know where he was going. He simply drove across the vast Gwori plains on the instructions of his commander. Until arriving at a peculiar and small forest in the remote regions of the south.

Icarus: - Wait for me here. - He said as he got off the speeder.

Alpha: - Commander. Are you sure? We don't know what might be there. - He said while looking at the forest with distrust.

Icarus: - Affirmative. This is something I have to find out on my own. -

The droid left the safety of the plains and entered the small forest, which although not very thick, getting lost could be ridiculously easy. Every step he took gave him a strange feeling. The deeper he went into the depths, the stronger that strange feeling became. It was as if... the trees wanted to tell him something.

Nelvaana, Mygeeto, Tatooine. All the planets he had been on were deserts of sand or ice, or had been ravaged by war, turning them into desolate wastelands. Where the little life that existed fought with all its might to survive. But this place... this place was different.

Despite knowing of its existence from the records and the stories told by the mouths of the elders, Icarus had never seen a tree with his own eyes, much less so many grouped in that peculiar forest. He wondered if it was a coincidence that the forests had that reaction to him, or maybe something was interfering with his processor. Either way, he couldn't determine what it was, because all he felt was that little tingle in his core every time he placed a hand on the scratchy bark of the trees.

So much was his concentration on that sensation, that little did he realize how much he had entered. He could no longer see the speeder, not even the heat trace left by its engine, when:

????: - It's lovely. Do not you believe it? -

A strange male voice gives him a good scare. Look everywhere, in every direction. Left, right, behind his back, up and down. But there is no one. How weird. Surely it was a mistake, a failure in their acoustic sensors. And although he did not give much importance to the matter, he kept moving forward, looking in all directions in case the owner of such a strange voice suddenly appeared.

Eventually he came to a clearing, over which stood a gigantic tree of a species unknown to him. His roots were titanic, and the smallest ones were thicker than himself. It separated from the rest of the trees in a perfect circle, it almost seemed that it had been someone's will, but no, it looked completely natural. But the most curious thing was that it seemed that that tree was calling him.

Icarus approached slowly, a little doubtful, since the trees are not supposed to "call you," so to speak. But he didn't hear it, because his acoustic sensors didn't pick up any signal, however, his strange nucleus seemed to react with each step he took. When his body barely separated a foot from the base of the tree, he looked up only to see the sun hide behind its leafy branches, and without understanding what was happening, he rested the palm of his metallic hand against the bark of the tree.

????: - Life is Strength. - Said that mysterious voice once more.

Icarus: - Who are you!? - He exclaimed scared, afraid of what was happening. - Where are you!? Show yourself! -

Despite his words, no one responded to his call. He looked in all directions, but couldn't see anything. Not even his thermal vision could detect the slightest form of life. He calculated that Wag Too should check it out immediately, because surely something was wrong with its sensors. But that thought didn't last long.

????: - Do you see everything you have achieved? -

There was no doubt. This time he could feel it. Not hear it, but feel it. It was as if the words were coming from his very core. What the hell was happening to him?

Icarus: - What do you mean? What have I achieved? - He said trying to get an answer.

????: - Don't you see? Look around. - Icarus looked everywhere, but saw nothing unusual.

Icarus: - I only see trees. - He answered confused.

????: - No, my dear friend. What you see is... life. -

Ícaro: - Life? -

????: - Yeah. Life. Force. It surrounds us all. And even you. -

Icarus: - That doesn't make sense. I am a droid. How can there be life in me? -

????: - Don't know. - The mysterious voice said something funny, even though it didn't seem to want to offend him; rather, he seemed to want to show her something.

Icarus: - I don't understand what you mean. What do you want to get with all this? -

????: - Yeah. If you know. You just have to look. -

What happened next had no possible explanation. Icarus could feel something strange on his arm. to be more specific, inside his arm compartment. He didn't know what was happening, but he knew he was responsible for it. He took out the lightsaber and took it in his two hands. He didn't know why, but his core was reacting strangely to the strange "object" in his hands. Then everything became meaningless.

The rocks on the ground began to gently levitate, as if a strong but gentle breeze of air was holding them aloft. The only problem was that there was no wind at all. Then, her body felt lighter. It seemed that it was going to detach itself from the ground, but fortunately its great weight prevented it. It was a few long seconds that the droid couldn't understand everything, but looked at each detail with unusual astonishment. And just as it began, the paranormal phenomenon ended without leaving the least trace.

The stones fell violently, as if the invisible current of air that supported them had suddenly vanished. That sensation of lightness on his body disappeared in the same way, and he felt how the planet's gravity once again held him firmly on the ground.

Icarus was puzzled. He had never seen such a thing before, but that sensation was very similar to what he felt next to that strange man on Tatooine. It was then that everything became clear to the droid's robotic mind.

Icarus: - You are a Jedi. -

Several minutes passed, however, the strange voice was not heard again.

The droid peered at the lightsaber that lay in his hands as he wondered what all that had happened was. Lacking any kind of supernatural beliefs, he couldn't understand what had happened, but he was convinced of one thing, whatever it was, that strange voice did not belong to the living.

Alpha: - Commander. All in order? - He said suddenly through the communicator.

Icarus: - Affirmative. I'm going back. - He said after getting out of his thoughts.

The droid looked around one last time. He hadn't noticed, but it was starting to get dark. How long had it been? Six hours? Impossible. He hadn't been that long inside the forest. What happened? Unfortunately, Icarus had no answers to those questions.

And as if his confusion wasn't enough, all you have to do is walk a couple of meters to find your way out of the forest, and Alpha with the speeder waiting patiently. As? he wondered. But when he turned around, that leafy tree in the clearing had simply disappeared. As if it were all an illusion. But... could a droid have one? The unanswered questions just kept piling up with every passing second.

Alpha: - Commander. Something wrong? - He asked once more seeing him looking at the forest without losing focus.

Icarus: - No. Nothing happens. Let's go back to the Oasis. It won't be long until night falls. -
