Chap. 11 - Below Zero

Several hours had passed since Wag Too had fallen asleep and he was finally waking up. A little dizzy and confused, he looked around and realized that he was not in the Trandoshan shelter. After only a few seconds, he was able to recognize that he was in one of the Kestrel Nova's cabins.

With a bind, he landed clumsily on the metal deck rubbing his eyes, though he immediately went to the bathroom to clean up a little and be able to refresh his face. Only when he could get out of the state he was in, he was able to realize that he was all sweaty. The heat inside the ship was unbearable and it was irritating him a bit. He quickly dressed and headed for the bridge.

Arriving at the bridge, he was dazzled looking out the windows, seeing the hypnotic pattern left by light when traversed at high speed. However, the streaks of light were slower than the lurmen remembered. The bridge was quite large, with enough capacity for six crew members to stand upright without encumbering the flight crew who had four members and a captain. However, the seating in front of the control panels were empty, and the only seat occupied was that of the captain.

Icarus lay seated on the huge seat. His right arm was connected to a terminal by a long cable as he typed mindlessly.stop in a control panel with his right hand. However, he noticed the arrival of the lurmen immediately.

Icarus: - You slept more than calculated. -

Wag Too: - How long was I asleep? - He asked still with a sleepy voice.

Icarus: - Sixteen hours, thirty-four minutes and forty-two seconds. -

Wag Too: - Okay... Okay... You didn't have to be so precise. - He said while he sat in front of one of the panels of the cabin. - Why is the cooling system not working? - He said after pressing several buttons without result.

Icarus: - I can't answer that question. The cooling and refrigeration system are not responding from the cockpit. -

Wag Too: - Didn't you check the problem? -

Icarus: - As you can see, I am personally piloting the ship. I can't leave the command post, so I haven't been able to check. Also, with the cooling system off, I don't know the temperature status of the hyper propulsors. We are now traveling at the minimum speed of hyperdrive out of an abundance of caution. If the systems are not activated, it will take us a week to reach our destination. -

Wag Too: - A week!? - He exclaimed in shock. - No no no no no. I will review the problem immediately. -

The Lurmen left the control room and hurried to fix the problem with the refrigeration, allowing Icarus to continue analyzing data on the computer. At least twenty minutes passed, when Wag Too returned to the cockpit, blue fluid stains all over his body.

Wag Too: - Ready. One of the pipes was clogged. It should work normally. Try to reboot the system. - He said as he collapsed on one of the chairs covered in sweat.

Icarus nodded and got to work. With a simple command that he sent through the cable that was connected to his arm, a system could be heard turning on in the ship, generating a very slight persistent noise, but nothing serious. The aircold began to come out of the locks, and Wag Too was able to enjoy the refreshing sensation.

Wag Too: - Ahhhh. This is better. -

With the cooling system restored, Icarus was able to increase flight speed, reducing travel time by just eighteen hours.

Wag Too: - By the way. Where are we going? - He said after cooling off a bit.

Icarus: - We are heading to the planet of Nelvaan. -

Wag Too: - ¿Nelvaan? ¿No es esaa rock frozen? What will we do there? That IrememberNot even the war between the Confederacy and the Republic reached such a desolate planet. -

Icarus: - That's not entirely true. Years ago there was a small conflict between both parties. The Techno Union was testing climate control technology on the planet, but a Republic force intervened and the experiment was destroyed. However, the records do not have much information about the incident, its causes or consequences. After that, no one else returned to the planet. -

Wag Too: - If that's true. What will we do there? -

Ícaro: - According to my record This information only was known to General Grievous, the Foreman of Wat Tambos, and only a few Techno Union scientists. But a super-secret facility for scientific research was made on the planet. Not even Count Dooku knew of its existence. -

Wag Too: - Hmm. It sounds mysterious. - He said mockingly. - And how is it that you know about that place? - He said with some mischief.

Ícaro: - Because in that place... it was where they made me. -

The droid looked at the lurmen, turning his smirk into wonder and bewilderment.

Wag Too: - So... It's like coming home for you. -

Icarus did not respond to his comment. I just didn't understand Wag Too's words. After all, the concept of "house" or "home" wasn't something the droids could properly define beyond a functional structure. Still, the lurmen thought it had unknowingly disturbed the droid. An uncomfortable silence was maintained for several minutes in the cabin, until the lurmen's stomach rumbled loudly.

Wag Too: - Relax little friend. - He patted his stomach.

Ícaro: - The rations are in the kitchen. Before reaching the cargo hold. -

Wag Too: - I think I'll take a couple. Well... I see you couldn't do much here, so I'll start assembling the droids... Without activating them. - He put a lot of emphasis on the ending.

The trip was quite long, although neither of them had time to get too bored. While performing minimal functions to maintain the ship's course, Icarus spends his time analyzing all the data he was able to retrieve from Mygeeto's central computer. He was looking for some clue or some detail that would reveal the situation of the galaxy just before the planet was isolated, but the only thing he could decode were files that revealed a dark passage. Files of hundreds of jedi being slaughtered by the men who followed them, confirming what Wag Too had told him.

On the other hand, Wag Too was dedicated to trying to assemble the droids that he had been able to recover in the pirate refuge. Most could be classified as junk, but the lurmen was convinced that he could fix every single one of them. The pieces corresponded to four B1 model droids and one B2 model droid. Although there was also a droideka frame, but he didn't have a core that was compatible with the model, so it would become a future model or could just be sold for scrap.

With much patience and ingenuity, the Lurmen assembled each droid with precision and detail. While battle droids were considered useless by the galaxy, the truth was that within them lurked precise machinery that had to be treated with great care. Wearingmultiple tools such as soldering irons, gauges, and many others, the droid parts were coupling with each other. Lurmen's inventiveness made him resort to loose parts that he could find such as small conduits or cables that he had to change from the original, but in little more than two hours of work, the lurmen had been able to complete the assembly of the first B1 unit.

Wag Too was elated with his achievement and couldn't wait to turn it on and appreciate the fruit of his toil. However, Icarus's words warning him about how dangerous it would be to do so were spinning in his head, so he preferred to abstain and continue assembling the rest of the droids. By the time they finally came out of hyperspace, the lurmen hadassembly the four B1 droids and was at the half to assemble the B2 droid. The latter was further complex, and its pieces were different, which gave the lurmen quite a challenge, but nothing he couldn't complete.

Icarus: - We left hyperspace. In five minutes we will reach the Nelvaan orbit. - He spoke over the ship's speakers.

Wag Too poked his head out from under the B2 droid he was working on when he heard his partner's voice. He quickly got to his feet, put the tools aside, and headed for the cabin.

Wag Too: - So that Nelvaan. Heavens. Yes, it looks like an ice ball. - He said when he entered the cabin and saw the planet through the windows.

Icarus: - Yes. We are about to enter orbit. We will land in - The droid stopped speaking when he looked at the lurmen.

Wag Too: - What? - He asked, confused.

Icarus: - I think you should clean off the grease and fluids before getting off the ship. -

Wag Too: - Oh. What happened? Don't you want me to dirty your refined laboratory? - He said mockingly.

Icarus: - That's irrelevant. But when you come into contact with the planet's low temperatures, those oils and liquids will probably freeze on your skin. You can even lose some of your fur if you are careless. - The mockery disappeared from the lurmen's face, who ran to take a bath as fast as he could.

While the weather conditions on Nelvaan were not as extreme as they were during the clashes between the Republic and the Separatists, the planet's temperatures were naturally low. Sometimes strong winds blew, raising thin sheets of mist and snow that made it difficult to see the planet's surface. Fortunately, Icarus had full control of the ship's sensors, and was able to easily maneuver the ship to land on an esplanade.

The Kestrel Nova slowly descended as its turbines removed all the snow on the surface revealing the solid rock. Finally, the landing gear was secured, stabilizing the ship, and after several minutes, the hatch just below the ship's cabin slowly began to open, revealing Icarus and Wag Too, who were wearing a thick coat to cover themselves. of the cold.

Wag Too: - Ugh. I don't feel my hands and I think my tail won't last long. -

Icarus: - First time you experience the cold? -

Wag Too: - You bet. Both Mygeeto and my home planet were quite warm. I must admit that it is not a pleasant feeling. -

Icarus: - Then let's not waste time. -

The odd duo emerged from the ship carrying a long, thick cable that appeared to be connected to the interior of the Kestrel Nova. They moved very clumsily as their feet dug into the ground.snow, especially the lurmen, who could only see the upper part of his torso.

Wag Too: - You may know... What is this for? - He said something tired.

Icarus: - If five years have passed. It is possible that the same thing happened here. -

Although the lurmen did not know what he was referring to, they continued walking until they reached what appeared to be a wall of rock and ice on one of the slopes of the mountain.

Wag Too: - What is this supposed to be? Do we have to climb? -

Icarus: - Not everything is what it seems. -

The droid's words left the lurmen somewhat confused, but when Icarus slammed into the wall the confusion turned to astonishment. Unlike what could wait, Icarus' first produced a series of sounds metallic on the wall. Something that just seemed impossible. The droid crouched down and tore away a fragment of rock, revealing a control panel hidden on the side of the mountain.

As expected, the control panel had no power, but this time he was ready. The droid connected the cable to the panel and ordered the lurmen to return to the ship and start the engines. Hopefully the energy from the Kestrel Nova would be enough to activate the gate mechanism. So it was.

Within seconds of powering up the ship, the control panel lit up again. Ícaro didn't waste a second and entered the codes to access the laboratory. When the panel confirmed the codes, a loud rumble shook the ground, causing even some ice shards to fall dangerously on the droid, but luckily, he was able to dodge them.

The mountainside began to open up, revealing a huge metal gate four meters high. Which gave access to a long, dark corridor that extended into the interior of the mountain.
