Rescue- Kirk

You knew you were gonna hate this man the moment you saw him and his big bright smile with those cobalt gemstone eyes. How in the world did any sort of Starfleet official look at this man and thought, yeah he's a good fit to lead a ship with nearly 500 lives on it? Sure he may have a pretty stunning track record but seeing as how you were in a life or death situation with your entire planet you weren't sure if he could save you from all of them.

His ears must have been burning because not two minutes later he turned the corner of the med bay to greet you as the doctors were still working on your broken leg.

"So doc, will she make a full recovery?"

The gruff man by your left foot rolled his eyes before grunting as he got up. "Sure will Jim if you give me five seconds to treat the poor girl. We just saved her from a burning escape pod. The least you can do is give her a minute to recuperate."

"Glad to hear it, Bones." The smug captain smiled at his friend and nodded before making his way to your right side, clearly ignoring the comment this doctor made about your situation. Instead, he got a little too close for comfort and leaned in even more. "What's your name cadet?"

You blinked. Cadet? You weren't even Starfleet, you weren't even HUMAN.

Bones groaned. "She's mute you idiot. Her species communicate through sign language of sorts and only if they WANT to, especially the women. They have some dang good respect laws on their planet. We could learn a thing or two from them." He nodded at you as if out of his own sort of respect, his brow raising in kind.

You nodded back at him, trying your best not to glare at the captain.

Kirk nodded, his hands clasped behind his back as he stepped back. "Ah, yes well my apologies. So I take it you aren't a cadet then?"

You shook your head, your pain in your leg returning. The stuff the nurses gave you earlier must have worn off. A soft rhythmic beep started and they pressed something against your leg and with a soft "psss" your pain subsided.

"Oh." He glanced at Bones but the doctor just shrugged.

"Do you really not read up on the current Starfleet planets?"

"Just so you can enlighten me, Bones." Kirk's careless smile made your blood boil.

Clearly the doctor was on the same page as you with how you felt about this whole exchange. Putting down the tool he had in his hand he turned to the nurse nearest him to finish working on your leg as he approached the blond fool.

"Were you sleeping during the rescue or did you have your tongue down the throat of a new mistress? Because it's mighty clear this poor girl was escaping something and is some sort of humanoid that we've never seen before. So unless you want me to get all Spock on you and tell you how to do your job in backhanded commentary, I'd highly suggest you listen to me now and you listen to me good."

You couldn't handle it. This doctor was doing his best to defend you but it wasn't getting through Kirk's thick skull, the man still smiling like an idiot. So you did what you didn't think you would ever do again since being banished 8 years ago.

Spoke.

"I can speak for myself, thank you."

Kirk's smile grew as he heard her voice silence his friend.

The room grew quiet at the sound of her oh so silky voice. Vosvosen's were fairly new to the Starfleet database but he had consumed every form of information on them as he could not only because they were new but because they were extremely intriguing.

They have what the Starfleet's limited knowledge and vocabulary call "siren voices". They speak at any frequency they need to elicit the response they require. Since learning that, Jim was near dead set on finding them and hearing them for himself. And possibly have a few on his crew for dire situations. Spock would get a kick out of them as well.

Blinking back to reality, not missing the utter shock on the doctor's face, Jim cleared his voice and hoped he didn't sound as winded as he felt.

"Oh good, just what I was hoping for." Damn it, that sounded arrogant.

Sure enough the Vosvosen woman hardened her gaze at him, her cheeks turning rosy red.

"Congratulations Captain, you have heard the voice you clearly feigned ignorance to behold." Her eyes never left him, her voice enveloping him in awe despite the frustration that saturated it, tempting him to feeling regret.

But he didn't.

Shrugging it all off, doing his best to focus on his original task, the whole reason he was here in the first place; find out what happened to her planet.

"I hope you know it's all for a good cause."

"You really are treading on thin ice Jim, and I'm not about to plunge headfirst to save you. This time." Bones shook his head as he took a PADD from a nurse. But Jim wasn't done.

"I think I have found your planet."

Her eyes widened yet winced as she sat up more fully, her left leg finally being bound to heal.

"How? Where? When?"

He raised his hand and shook his head gently. "We tracked your escape pod. We found the sector from the direction you came from and it was a long process of elimination but I'm quite positive we found your planet."

He waited for smiles and happy tears but instead he was greeted with the most unnerving response no captain in Starfleet could ever expect.

"Captain," she paused, reaching into her pocket, "you mean this planet?"

Jim's heart rate climbed as she pulled out a small sphere about the size of a tennis ball, its colors red and purple, holding it up between her thumb and pointer finger, turning it slowly with her middle finger.

Bones let out a depressed sigh. "Jesus Christ."

~~~~~
You couldn't help but let out the barest of laughs, the looks on the captain and doctor's faces better than you could have ever expected. Tossing it up and catching it, you then held it out to the dumbfounded men, "Bones" held his breath and the Captain slowly reached out to take it. His hands made it seem much smaller.
"Is..is this really your planet?" He didn't move at all as if it would break in his hands, "With people and...everything?"
You debated for a fraction of a second if you should keep with the facade just as he did about knowing your people so you let your brows furrow as your lips fell into a grim line.
"I was lucky I found it amongst the wreckage of the space battle that ultimately saved me from a similar fate." Your cheeks hurt from forcing yourself to not break out in a huge grin.
Bones came up behind Kirk, his brows raised. "Are they even alive?"
You shrugged, biting a giggle back before grasping at a response. "I don't know. I can only hope."
"Captain, you can not honestly believe her."
Another man, or humanlike man, walked up to your bed, not sure how long he had been in the med bay, but clearly long enough to catch onto your fibbage.
Kirk looked up, his eyes nearly glistening with unshed tears. He lifted your supposed shrunk planet for the newcomer to see.
"Spock, it's so small."
Remembering they were called Vulcan's, you realized there was no amount of time that he had to be there for him to catch on. They were the only species your compelling voice modulation doesn't work on; he was immune and that scared you more than you thought it would. You had never been in the same room as one let alone while injured. You would have no way to escape.
"Sir, rest assured you are not holding the Vosvosen planet in your bare hands. There would be no way for them to survive in such a sudden change of atmosphere and environment." Spock glanced at you and you couldn't suppress the shiver than left you with gooseflesh. "We have arrived in the correct sector of her planet. Now is not the time to let her voice fool your emotions."
Suddenly, as if you blinked, Kirk and Bones were back to normal, their faces pinched with confusion quickly changing to irritation. Then Bones let out a laugh, clapping his friend on the shoulder.
"Can't say you didn't deserve that one Jim."
"Oh come on you were fooled too."
Bones shrugged as he went to check on your leg, a monitor going off quietly. "It would be one hell of a story to bring back to Starfleet."
"Precisely why we should finish this rescue mission. So far our readings of the planet do not seem possible in the slightest." Spock's voice interrupted the jesting atmosphere, making your ears ring.
Kirk sobered up, looking at the ball in his hands. "Can we land?"
"NO!" You nearly fell out of the bed but Kirk caught you, dropping your planet's replica, grabbing your arm and putting his own around your waist.
You winced as he set you right, your mini planet rolling away.
Spock stepped closer. "Your visceral reaction can only mean a few things and it would be advisable for you to explain yourself quickly so we can help your people."
You swallowed before doing just that.
~~~~~

Jim was struggling to pay full attention to what you were saying but thankfully he knew he could rely on Spock for any of the gaps in his memory. He knew you didn't mean to lull them as you spoke but your ability was still working on him nonetheless.

"My planet is here but it's hidden. A sort of defense mechanism when we were attacked some centuries ago. Our ancestors were determined to not let what happened to them happen to us too." Your tone was hollow as you reached out for the small planet replica.

Spock bent down and gave it to you, however hesitantly as if you were going to throw it at his head the moment he gave it to you.

Jim stepped closer, his head starting to throb as he tried to focus on your face and not your words.

"So I take it that little thing has something to do with finding it?"

You nodded, moving it around in your hands. "It is a sort of honing device, however," with a swipe of her hand and a murmur of foreign words spoken with full enticing power, there was a clicking sound and the top half popped up where she grasped it and turned it like lid, "if used correctly it's a communicating hologram."

Just then a bright blue hologram of a building spanned the flat sides of the spheres you held in both hands. It was the clearest projected hologram Jim had ever seen. Stepping forward, he looked closer seeing small figures walking about. Well, more like stumbling.

Glancing at you, Jim saw unshed tears glisten in your eyes.

"This is the capital, Arasoth, it was the first to be hit with a gas that poisoned every man, woman, and child." You took a fortifying breath as you constituted, the urge to stroke your hair out of your eyes nearly causing Jim to hold his own arm back. "The authorities were quick to seal off the city, but it wasn't enough," your voice lowered as a tear trickled down your cheek gently, "it spread so quickly. There was no stopping it."

Jim sat down on a neighboring bio-bed, his head and heart pounding from the emotions your voice was emanating throughout the Medbay. Glancing at Bones and the other nurses staring glassy eyed at you confirmed it wasn't an isolated experience.

Spock stepped forward, pointing to the Hologram. "I feel it is safe to assume they are alive, viable enough to return to normalcy."

You nodded, closing the sphere, whipping the wet streaks off your chin. "Me and a few others who had been able to escape into the outer forests and coasts had found each other, hoping we could restore the city," you shrugged, "we had a small family who had been affected stumble to our camp and they were nearly fully recovered before the second wave hit."

Gasps from the nurses, mainly Bones, filled the room. Jim shook his head as he rubbed his eyes. This did not look good.

You sat up a bit more, not doing well hiding your discomfort. "Yes the people were still full of life and conscience, save not being able to move their bodies with their own free will. However, the second wave changed that. It was sudden and ended as quickly as it happened. A beam of light came from the sky and hit the capital citadel and blinded the entire population rendering everyone who were affected by the first wave braindead. Not a single person could be revived."

The room was quiet as you visibly collected your thoughts.

"And then they came."

Spock cocked his head to the side and took a step forward. "Them?"

Your gaze went hollow as your eyes glazed over, your voice alarmingly distant.

"They would test them. They would take my people and test on them. Numb screams filled the night air as these invaders tried to take their voices. Our ability to manipulate with a single lilt of our voice. They put us in a vegetative state and harvested our gift."

Bones joined Jim, leaning against the bed, his arms crossed, his eyes never leaving you.

"This is gonna be one tough party balloon to pop."

Jim shook his head as he stood, coming to your side. "You want us to see if there is a way to reverse what was done to them?"

You looked up at him with glistening eyes. "Eradicate the invaders and restore my people. Anything is better than looking down at our families as they silently suffer."

"Spock," Jim looked to the Vulcan, "do you have any recollection of something like this happening before on other planets?"

"Sadly, no, not to my recollection."

You deflated, holding the sphere to your chest. "Thank you for healing me but I would like to go home now."

Your voice was small and Jim could feel the absolute devastation radiate off of your words. Bones came up beside Jim and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I think there may be a way we can help them."

Nodding, Jim looked to Spock.

"Talk with Scotty about getting an away party together. Make sure Sulu is in it. The good Doctor here will help you set up the plan he's got cooking in that big brain of his."

"Watch it pal, I'm not the one about to play little mermaid with a siren."

"Bones, come on," Jim couldn't decide if he should be offended for you or laugh.

The disgruntled doctor pulled Jim away from your bed, his voice a hoarse whisper.

"Jim, you don't know if she is a local or one of the invaders with one of their hijacked voices!"

"You saw the Hologram, she's at least telling some truths. Besides, what benefit do they have from taking our voices?"

"It could have been programmed."

"What poor sap will draw the short end of the stick and get your voice?" With that he patted Bones' shoulder and walked up to you, taking in your hopeful eyes.

"Not to worry princess, we'll find a way to get your people back to their normal selves."
