Partner In Crime- Kirk
You kissed your little girl, Emma, on the forehead before gently handing her to Nanny Mari. Andrew was running around your legs, weaving this way and that, making battle ship noises with his mouth.
"I'll be back later tonight," you chuckled as you knelt down and captured your running son in your arms.
Andrew squirmed for a bit but laughed when you planted a kiss on his cheek. "Mooooom."
You smiled, smoothing down some of his hair. "Please be good for the nanny. I'll be back at lunch to pick you up."
Andrew's eyes grew wide as he remembered what day it was. "Will daddy be at lunch too?!"
You nodded, letting go of the jumping six-year-old. "He sure will. And if you are extra good he might even let you go with him to the Bridge today."
"YAY!" He then started running around again, his voice waving up and down as his arms started flapping.
You stood, looking at your two children with endearment. Ten years ago, if someone had told you you would marry your hometown sweetheart and have two beautiful kids with him, you would have told them to lay off whatever drugs they were on.
You turned to Nanny Mari and nodded. "Thanks again for the last minute call in. I owe you one."
She smiled. "No problem at all. Enjoy your day."
You turned back to Andrew and saluted him like you always did before you left him. "Captain."
Andrew immediately calmed down and saluted back in perfect formation. "Commander.
You left the suite and you could hear Andrew yelling again. Smiling wide, you headed to your job, your heart light and content with how happy your little perfect family was. Plus you were excited to see Jim after finally being free to leave your place. As willing as you were to rest after giving birth to Emma, you were past ready for a change of scenery. But first, you had to go make sure your science division was still functioning properly, even if Spock was running it. You were a bit protective of your all females unit of energy researchers.
As soon as you walked into the department you were bombarded with hugs, welcoming cries, and a table full of gifts. Audrey, your second in command and best friend, helped update you on what you missed and then promptly forced you to sit down and open all your gifts for little Emma. Some were even for yourself like a nice pair of soft slippers. You smiled through happy tears as you thanked every single one of them. Easily the group of you fell into conversation now that their chief researcher was back.
After a few hours of catching up, you realized it was time to pick up Andrew and meet Jim for lunch. Audrey assured you that she had everything covered so you could go spend time with your boys. With a quick thank you and a promise to be back soon, you rushed out the doors excited to indeed be with your boys.
You hadn't made it to the turbo lift when you heard the sound of someone running behind you. You instinctively moved to the side to give them space, expecting them to rush by. But what you didn't expect was strong hands to reach out and grasp your shoulders, making you jump and gasp. You turned to see your husband wide eyed and breathing hard.
You reached up, taking his arms as he quickly regained his breath. "James? What is it? I was just going to go get Andrew and join you for lunch."
Jim shook his head, his blue eyes holding fast to yours. "(Y/n), tell Nanny Mari to take the children to the safety pod."
Your mind reeled. "Please elaborate Jim, I'm not in the mood to decipher your cryptic commands."
Jim took a deep breath and gently moved his hands down your shoulders and threaded his fingers with yours. "There has been an attack on the Enterprise through the energy waves and molecular structures of the ship. I need you to get our children to safety."
You shook your head taking the information in stride. "But what of me? How can I help?"
Your husband shook his head. "I don't want you to get hurt. I need you safe with Emma and Andrew."
You squared your shoulders and steeled your gaze. "And what will be come of their father?"
Jim's shoulders sagged and he let out a breath. "I have to stay with the ship."
You opened your mouth to protest but he pressed on.
"There is one thing I love more than this ship and that is my family." He leaned forward and kissed your brow lightly. "Therefore, I intend to keep them safe. And that includes staying on the ship and finish negotiations with this very hostile species."
You closed your eyes and let out a breath knowing deep down that he was doing the best for he could for his crew and people with what little he had to work with. One of the million reasons you loved him. You nodded, looking up at him.
"Alright," you said quietly, reaching up to stroke his cheek, "go be the amazing Captain you are but promise me you will be safe."
Jim smiled, leaning into your touch, turning his head slightly to kiss the palm of your hand. "Thanks, you're amazing."
You scrunched your nose in delight at his phrase. "Tell me something I don't know," you replied routinely.
Jim chuckled as he leaned in but this time kissed your lips. You deepened it as you pulled him close, tears pricking at your eyes. All too soon Jim pulled away but not before pecking your cheek and then your forehead.
"Grab the kids. I'll see you soon."
"You better," you whispered as you detached yourself from your husband.
He gave you a dazzling smile as he started walking backward. "I love you, (Y/n)." And with a sly wink, he was gone.
You let out a breath, shaking your head. He's lucky you love him so much or else you would go after him and demand to go with him. But you also had kids that needed at least one of their parents to be with them.
You opened up the door and found Nurse Mari sitting in a chair finishing off feeding a small bottle to Emma. You strode forward with as much calm as you could muster considering what you knew. You didn't want to worry her or Andrew. Mari stood, handing your daughter to you with a gentle smile.
"She slept most of the time. Not so much as a yawning peep."
You cooed at your little girl as you held her close to you. You smiled wide and kissed her forehead, stroking her soft cheeks. "And Andrew, how was he?" You asked not looking up.
"Energetic as usual. But did a good job cleaning up his toys before he left."
Your head shot up and your eyes widened. "Left? Did he leave? With who? I didn't come get him!"

Jim watched the screen as more and more of the enemy silently attached themselves to the Enterprise hull. What he and his bridge crew first thought was an attack through electric waves and the molecular structures was actually an invisible species that were really good at messing with the ship's readers.
Having found that out Jim asked your crew to make an energy shield that then revealed the enemy without them knowing. It was a bit shocking to see them revealed and not being faced with large scary demons but instead, they were long, thin, and very blue. Almost like real aliens with big eyes and large heads. Almost a let down, really. But the shield also gave the Enterprise the advantage of knowing not only where they will show up around the ship but how to defeat them too. So far they were still working on that.
Jim gripped his phaser as the last of the sage entered the ship. Just then Bones and Checkov came rushing onto the bridge, nodding to Jim.
"We told everyone. The ship's all quiet," Bones gruffed as he set his phaser to stun, "She shouldn't make a peep as those little buggers are walking all up in Her."
Jim nodded. "Perfect," he turned to Chekov, "you stay here and keep me posted on their mothership's position."
"Aye, Kiepten."
Jim then turned to Bones and Spock who happened to walk in from the turbo lift. "You two with me. Let's met these new unexpected visitors."
With his two friends behind him, Jim felt confident in his plan to get rid of these unwanted guests. With the ship quiet, these 'aliens' would be focused on the security guards and keep the crew safe, most importantly his family. Or so he thought.
They came to a cross road when Spock came up short, nodding to one of the halls. Jim and Bones looked and saw shadows of the creatures walking down an adjacent hall. Jim looked to Bones and Spock.
"You two follow them. I'm going to-" But before he could finish his communicator went off making Bones and him jump, Spock just widened his eyes.
"God, Jim, are you trying to give away our position?"
Ignoring his CMO, he opened his comms. "Kirk here," he whispered.
"JIM!"
"(Y/n)? What is it?"
"No, I can't find-"
"Captain," Spock interrupted.
"Hold on Spock. What is it, honey?"
"We are safe and I have Emma but-" the comms unit crashed, turning off in his hands.
Jim cursed as he closed it, stuffing it back in his pocket. He turned to Spock, visibly irritated. The Vulcan didn't even have the nerve to look at him, staring down the hall behind him.
"Yes, Spock? What is it that is so important for you to interrupt my clearly distressed wife."
"Jim," Bones took his shoulders and turned him to look at something down another hall, "I think we know what she was about to say."
Jim rolled his eyes but froze as he noticed what was down the hall.
Andrew.
"Son," Jim whispered, inching toward him, noticing red puffy eyes and a toy ship in his hands.
"Go on Jim, Spock and I will follow that group," Bones said.
Jim just nodded, not noticing them leave as he drew closer to Andrew.
"Hey buddy, why aren't you with mommy?"
Andrew sniffed, folding his arms harshly. "Mommy said we were gonna have lunch. So I was gonna surprise her but she was gone so I was gonna find you but there are these weird people every where and they sound scary."
Jim knelt down in front of him, taking his shoulders. "You are so brave, Andy. I'm sorry we missed lunch. But we need to get you back to mommy. She's worried about you."
"What about you?"
"I will come with you and drop you off but I need to get back to work."
"Are you fighting with mommy again?"
Jim chuckled. "No, but I am trying to keep you, Mommy, and your sister safe."
Andrew just nodded. "Can I help you?"
"You can help me while we get back to the room. But then you have to promise to stay will mom."
Andrew's eyes widened and he nodded, his frown turning into a bright smile. "I promise!" He yipped happily.
"Shhh!" Jim chuckled, standing but keeping a hand on his shoulder. "Come on, let's sneak back."
"Why do we need to sneak?"
"Those 'weird people' you saw are hurting the ship and we are trying to get them to leave."
Andrew grew quiet as they 'sneaked' back to the room. Jim glanced at him, smirking at the concentrated look on his little boy's face.
"Whatcha thinin' about, buddy?"
"They don't like my ship?"
"What?"
Andrew stopped walking and turned to his father lifting up his little toy ship of an older class Enterprise. "I showed them my ship and they ran away."
Jim paused too, looking down at Andrew with confusion and awe. "Wait, you actually saw them and trying to talk to them?"
"I was lost and no one was around to help me. I saw the blue people and asked where you were. One of them pointed to this so I lifted it to show them and then they ran. I told them I was sorry it wasn't this ship but I don't think they heard me."
Jim smiled and was about to praise his son when there was chatter down one of the joining halls. Quickly Jim pressed himself against the wall, quietly calling Andrew over. But Andrew was curious and peeked around the corner.
"It's them, dad," Andrew said to Jim in a loud whisper.
Jim just nodded, holding back a laugh as he raised his finger to his lips to remind Andrew to be quiet. "Thanks. Did you see anything in their hands?"
Andrew nodded. "Yellow swords with white stuff coming out of them. They are waving them around the ship like this." And with exaggerated motions, Andrew proceeded to show his father the action of those aliens scanning the ship from the inside. Jim's blood boiled.
"Stay here. I'm going to make them leave."
Andrew's eyes widened as he shoved his small toy into Jim's hands. "Take this. They don't like it."
Jim nodded, taking the toy. "Good idea." Then with a wink, he turned the corner and faced the lanky blue people.
They didn't even flinch as Jim waved around his son's toy, telling them to run off and leave the ship. They just continued to scan, their weird language clicking down the hall. Off to the side, Andrew placed his hand on his forehead with a small smack and let out a sigh that he saw you doing all the time when around dad. Jim turned to Andrew and shrugged.
"No no dad, you're doing it wrong," Andrew sighed again as he came out of his hiding spot and showed his father how to scare off the 'weird people' the right way, "you have to shove it up. Not wave it around. They can't see it if it's moving."
Suddenly there was a screech and the two boys looked up and watched in awe as the group of scanners ran off, dropping their tools and scrambling off. Andrew smiled and handed it back to Jim.
"See? It just takes practice."
Jim stood in shock and awe as he just played back what he just saw. glancing between the toy and his son, Jim got an idea and was really happy you weren't around. He knelt in front of Andrew and tossed the toy up with a smile.
"Andy, do you want to keep helping daddy?"
Andrew nodded hastily, smiling wide. "Yes!"
"Great," Jim stood and motioned for Andrew to follow him, "just don't tell your mom."
"Are we partners now? Like you and Bones?"
Jim chuckled, nodding as he mussed his son's hair. "We sure are, buddy. Partners in crime."
Another group of blue people was turning down their hall. Jim smiled as he handed Andrew the ship then nodded to the aliens. "Go get 'em, partner."
Andrew smiled wide then took down the hall his toy held up above his head as he let out a frightening battle cry. Sure enough, they turned tail and ran. Jim contacted Spock and Bones telling them to grab a few kids and play tag; these aliens are terrified of kids. Jim laughed as he heard Andrew let out another scream but this time a hint of a giggle escaped too.
~
"Andrew!"
You tackled your son as he cam bounding into the bedroom, his smile so wide it took over his face. You looked up at your husband who came in after him.
"Where did you find him? Why did it take so long?"
"I saved the ship mommy! Even the other kids helped too!"
Jim shrugged as he picked up Emma from her little bed, Nanny Mari having left after the emergency was lifted. He looked down at his sweet little girl and smiled as he spoke.
"Andrew will make a fine tactical officer one day."
Andrew puffed his chest out with pride. "I want to always fight the bad guy, it's so easy!"
Your excitement turned into dread as you pieced things together. You stood, placing your hands on the back of a chair and leaning against it. "You did not just have our son fight off those 'extremely hostile' enemies that you said even I couldn't help you with."
"Please don't be mad, mommy, I was his partner. No one leaves their partner behind."
Jim chuckled. "Don't worry, Andy, mommy's just jealous."
You rolled our eyes and took Emma from Jim. "Shut up and go shower, both of you. You reek."
Jim smiled and kissed your cheek. "Next time, honey, maybe when you're older."
You couldn't help but let out a helpless laugh as you watched your two boys talk about what they just did and the life that excitement brought to them. You definitely had your hands full with those two.
