It's A Date - McCoy
You are nervous. Despite having your brother on board the Enterprise, you made sure to keep to yourself save for interacting with the crew when it became necessary. Spock made it look easy to be among the crew, conversing and spending time with them almost like he is one of them. But you aren't. You are Vulcan and you will forever be seen as one, no matter how hard you try.
Leonard McCoy found himself busy with a Med Bay full of officers, ensigns, and commanders as he gave and passed physical examinations. He hated and loved these days because he got to do what he loved most, taking care of people. But he hated being around so many people and having to do all of the paperwork afterward.
Bones walked into his office to grab another patient's credentials PADD when a sudden wave of exhaustion hit him, making him blink hard and sway slightly. He shook his head and ran his hands over his face. You happen to be passing by his office as you were waiting to be examined. You pause and backtracked into the office a bit to observe McCoy as he tried to compose himself in secrecy. He turns his head and you jump realizing you were just staring. You try to leave as quickly and quietly as you could, but it seems McCoy spotted you. You both locked eyes, your breath hitched and he froze. Neither of you moved until the sound of a throat clearing made the two of to jump to attention, turning to the open doorway.
"Doctor McCoy, I believe staring at my sister will not further your progress in completing the physical examination of the crew." Spock stood at the doorway with his hands behind his back and his head cocked to the side slightly, his eyebrow raised.
You looked down suddenly engrossed with your fingers. Bones lets out a grumble as he rushes out of his office, gently brushing past you, but hitting Spock on the way out. You look up at your brother, your own eyebrow raised.
"Brother, I appreciate your concern for the Doctor's proficiency, but can you not tell he is in need of rest?" You step toward Spock, gesturing with your hand to McCoy as he worked on an old Halkan couple. "I merely stopped to monitor if he was alright."
"I understand that sister. I advise you to do as the humans say to "take care of your feelings" when it comes to the Doctor. I do not think I have the ability to contain my anger around him when he looks at you as he does."
Your eyes widen, but you hid your emotions quickly. Your brother is more Vulcan than you, you tend to let your emotions show more than what your culture likes to permit. But though he may not show it, your brother has a knack for understanding how you and those around you feel. You look back at Bones, a light smile pulling at your lips.
"Brother, the Doctor has no feelings for me, I assure you. I am not his mating type." You blush, though you looked away.
"I believe you are mistaken, sister." And with that, Spock left with a nod as his name was called for his physical.
You look after him, confused. How could he read emotions when he is so bad at showing them? You look up when you hear your name called by none other than Doctor McCoy. Your face heats up as you stepped out of his office and to the bed he was standing by.
Bones rubbed the back of his neck, fighting back the ache to yawn. Only a few more crew members to go. He raised his eyebrows when he sees your name next. After what Spock said, Bones wasn't sure if he had the energy to face you and not bite your head off for your brother's comment. Taking a deep breath, Bones prepared himself to talk to you as best as he could. But when he looked up to see you talking with your brother, he could not get over how beautiful you looked. Clearing his throat and shaking his head, he called for you next. He sure hopes this goes quick, he might fall asleep where he's standing.
"Alright (Y/n), if you could wait here please, that would be fantastic." Bones didn't look up from his PADD as he pointed next to him.
You give a small nod as you lean against the bed. You let your eyes wander over the doctor; his broad shoulders, kind eyes, calloused hands, and his soft hair. You had to physically hold your hand behind your back should you act on your impulse to run your hand through his hair. You are taken out of your reverie when Bones let out a fake cough. You blink and make eye contact with him, but you wish you hadn't as soon as you did. Bags under his eyes and tired lines on his forehead almost made tears come to your eyes. Before he could say anything you raised your hand.
"Enough Bones, you are tired. Though I am not your superior officer, I am your friend and I cannot stand seeing you work yourself to, well, your bones." You reach out, placing your hands on his arms.
Bones shakes his head and chuckles silently. "You know; your brother would have told me I looked like death but still expect me to move mountains." He brings up a hand to rub his face.
You scrunch your eyebrows in concern as you take the PADD from his hand and placed it on the bed. You then take his now free hand as you lead him out of the Med Bay and to his office.
"Hey, as flattered as I am darling that you want me alone, I have a lot of work that needs to be done." Bones protested verbally but did not physically resist.
You place him in a chair as you sat at his desk, opening up files and documents on several PADDs. You send a few messages and tap a few things then turned to find your Doctor almost half asleep in his seat. You smiled and let out a low laugh. Silently, you step forward to him, placing a hand under his arm as you helped him stand.
"Whoh, darling, it's not like I'm drunk." And yet his words slurred with exhaustion.
You smiled as you guided him out of his office, out of Med Bay and into his room. "I know Bones. But as you can see, you are tired beyond tired."
Bones shrugs you off and stands on his own, straightening his shirt. "I am not tired. I'm..."
"Over worked. Now, change into something comfortable as I get you something to eat and drink."
He goes off to change as you go off to get some food and a drink. You place them on a tray and walked it to the bedroom, but you almost drop the tray. There stood Bones McCoy with no shirt on, his arms above his head with his shirt in his hand, frozen and staring straight at you. You blush hard and kindly avert your eyes as you set the tray down on a side table.
He let out a huff and dropped his arms. "You know, we have to stop doing this. If your brother enters my room next, I am going to punch something. I am too tired to pretend I don't find you attractive." He scowled and puts on his shirt with a huff then threw himself on his bed.
You blush harder as if it was possible. "I am sorry if my appearance distracts you. I will leave you to rest." You placed your hands behind your back and turned to leave. But you felt his hand reach out and stop you, pulling you gently toward him.
"What did you do in my office? Did you drug me or something?" He whispered as he tried to keep his eyes open.
You sat down on the edge of his bed, taking his hand from your arm and placing it on your lap as you played with his fingers, not looking at him. "I made sure to have your nurses take care of the rest of the physicals so you could rest. Oh and I told the Captain that you were not going to be available anytime soon." You didn't want to look at him for fear of what his expression would show. His hand curled around yours causing you to look at him. What you saw made a smile pull across your face.
"Oh (Y/n), why do you have to be good looking and a caring doll?" He sat up on his elbow as he brought your hand up to his lips.
You blush yet again as he kissed it lightly. But as you looked into is eyes, his kind, deep, chocolate eyes, you had to do your best to keep your tears at bay. You look down and stroke his hand with yours again, a hair falling in front of your eyes. Bones ducks his head slightly to look up at you.
"Hey, did I say something?"
"Yes, you did say something. But your meaning by it, I do not believe I understand."
Bones looks down and lets out a breath. "How about I take you out to lunch and explain it to you."
"Is that a request or a command?"
He lets out a low chuckle. "A question that you have every right to reject. But you still need your physical updated might I add." He lifts his hand and stroked a hair away from your eyes.
"You are right. I suppose I can meet with you, I would hate to be the reason you cannot finish your crew physical exams." You hear him chuckle again, low and strong.
"It's a date then. But now, I want to sleep." Bones lays back down, letting out a puff of air.
But he didn't let go of your hand so, him being the bigger force, pulled down with him. You let out an 'oof' as you gently fall onto his chest. You move to get up but he throws his other arm over you, ultimately trapping you. So you gave up and relaxed on top of him. His hand mindlessly plays with your hair as you feel his chest rise and fall.
"Leonard?" You whisper his name.
You get a gruff 'hmm' in response. You smile.
"I think I should go."
"Nope. What happened to not bothering me? I am almost asleep and you leaving won't help me fall asleep any faster."
You look up at him, taking in his closed eyes and relaxed face. You move your hand up and stroke his cheek.
"Alright. I will not move a muscle." You lay your head back on his chest and his hand goes back to playing with your hair.
"Perfect." And with that you both were asleep in no time, wrapped in each other's arms.
