Epiphany- Spock

WhitherKYKillerKY-I hope you like how this turned out! Thank you for your patience! Enjoy!

It was hot and a bit windy outside today, making it a little difficult to take measurements. Your nose itched and you sneezed right as you heard the all too familiar sound of the transporter. You smiled shyly at the Second Officer as he and the Captain materialized in front of you.

You had been on the surface of this unnamed planet for two days now studying seismic activity, alone. Something about the reading wasn't adding up so you asked for assistance. But you didn't think the two highest officers of the ship would take time out of their day to beam down to your aid.

You turned back to your work as they walked toward you as to not stare at the blue shirted Vulcan. You sneezed. With a shake of your head, you steeled into yourself as you tossed them a welcome over your shoulder.

"Captain. Commander. Thank you for coming."

"Of course, officer-"

You gave the captain a sly smile. "(L/n). Tracy's roommate. You'd remember that if you had come by and saw Tracy again like you said you would."

Captain Kirk glanced down and cleared his throat as he tried to smile away his indiscretion. "Ah yes. I knew I was forgetting something."

You shared a look with the Vulcan, suppressing a giggle at the smirk he was hiding behind his captain's back.

Kirk cleared his throat. "Spock here offered his help. Take as long as you need." He turned to go but gave Spock a look. "I promise it's not what it sounds like."

Spock gave him a solemn nod. "Of course, Captain."

You gave the Captain a nod right before he was beamed back up. Leaving you and Commander Spock alone. You turned back to your little monitors, checking numbers on your PADD as another sneeze escaped. You heard the ground crunch as your new helper stepped closer.

"Are you feeling alright officer?"

You looked up, moving back some wind-blown hairs, trying your best not to think about how horrible you probably looked. You weren't really expecting such an esteemed visitor. The wind picked up. You sneezed.

"(Y/n). You can call me (Y/n)." You reached out and shook his strong and surprisingly soft hands. "And yes, Commander, just a bit of an itchy nose."

Spock nodded. "Do we need to be outside for you to show me what is troubling you?"

You shook your head as you finished up taking down numbers. You tucked the PADD under your arm and motioned for him to follow you to the little bunker set up for you and a small crew. Except you didn't have a crew so that left you with a pretty sizable place to stay and you weren't complaining.

"Come on, I have everything set up inside. I also have some food cooking if you would like some. We can talk while we eat."

Spock gave you a grateful nod. "Thank you." He followed close behind you, his hands clasped behind his back. "But I must confess, I do find it odd that humans prefer to converse while taking a meal. I find that quite illogical."

You let out a little laugh, glancing up at him as he opened the bunker door for you. "Of course, you would think that." You shrugged. "I'm not sure why we do it but it's kind of a social norm I guess."

Your lungs let out a relieved sigh as the air-conditioning kicked in. You brushed what sand and dirt you could off yourself before turning to the Commander. You suppressed a surprised squeak as you shamelessly watched your commanding officer brush himself down and tousle his already unruly hair with closed eyes. He looked so different with his hair not immaculately placed, but it was a good different. A very good different. He then opened his eyes, finding yours easily and holding your gaze. You could feel his smirk despite not seeing a single muscle on his face move. You blinked then looked away, clearing your throat.

"I'm not sure what you are hungry for so help yourself to what you can find. I just need to grab a few things. Commander." You bobbed your head and avoided his gaze as you hurried past him and to the part of the bunker that housed the sleeping quarters.

You stepped into your room, grabbed your pillow and screamed into it until you needed to breathe. What kind of cruel joke was this? Isolate a woman for a few weeks then send her one of, if not the most attractive officers on the ship to help aid her. As if you weren't already having issues focusing on how to understand what was going on. You sneezed then screamed into the pillow again. Relieved of some of the anxiety you felt when around him, you threw the pillow back on your bed and grabbed the mini seismic monitor on your vanity.

When you walked back to the main section, you feared you had been transported to some other reality where Vulcan superior officers set tables, lit candles, and cooked dinner. The Commander turned around from the little kitchen nook with two plates full of something that looked like noodles. Your stomach growled then you sneezed.

"Bless you (Y/n)." Spock mused as he placed the food on the table.

Your charts, graphs and documentation papers were neatly placed between your set places. He even moved a flower from your kitchen window to the table next to the candles. You shook your head and smiled.

"If anyone should be blessed it should be you. You didn't have to do this." You gestured to it all as you sat down. You sneezed again.

Blast your pesky sinuses.

Spock gave you a concerned look as he poured you a glass of water. "Perhaps I did not need to. However, I could not help but notice you are refusing to acknowledge the fact you are becoming ill."

You opened your mouth to argue him but a sneeze came out. Including a cough. Spock gave you a pointed look as he began eating. You cleared your throat and looked away, bringing his attention to the seismic information.

That meal was one of the best meals you had had in a long time. Especially while stationed here. Spock was kind and made sure to understand exactly what was going on before giving you his insight. But he also didn't ignore the fact your sneezing had turned into coughs and they were getting worse by the hour.

After hours of talking, several glasses of water, and successfully littering the floors with papers, diagrams, and model seismic reading increments the two of you were quite sure what it was that had stumped you.

You laid your head back on the couch as you sat on the floor, holding the answer giving graph in your hand. You turned your head to look at Spock, giving him a weak smile.

"Who would have guessed that the ground has a second layer that is constantly shaking." You glanced over at your cup of water, the surface as smooth as ice. "And yet we can't feel it nor see it."

Spock merely nodded as he sat beside you, his legs pulled up and his arms resting on his knees, his hands messing with an empty cup. He internally winced as you started coughing again, your lungs sounding heavy with mucus and your breath becoming ragged.

He glanced over at you to find you leaning back on the couch, your eyes closed and your brow wet. Silently, he reached over and gently felt your brow, your skin hot to the touch. You had a fever and it didn't look good.

"Why is it you have to be stubborn? You are fortunate I arrived when I did. It seems you need someone to help you to take care of yourself," he whispered as he moved hair out of your face and took the papers from your hands, placing them on the ground.

With ease, Spock slipped his arm around your back and under your knees, holding you close to him as he stood. He helped you out of your shoes and into your bed where he placed your head on your pillow, stroking your hair back and covering you with a blanket.

As he turned to go, he felt your hand reach out to take his. He turned back, grasping your hand tight as he knelt down next to your bed.

You cracked your eyes open and blinked. "When the Captain said you were here to help I didn't think he meant this." You closed your eyes and breathed hard.

Spock gave a slight shake of his head. "He meant this and more if necessary. I cannot help but worry how you take care of yourself on your own."

You let out a weak laugh, your smile turning into a grimace after you coughed. "I don't."

"My point exactly." He pulled the blanket closer to your face, looking around in case he forgot anything. "Get some sleep. I will come to check how you are faring from time to time." Before he got up, he stroked your cheek. "You are an amazing woman who has done some amazing things. Please do not hesitate to ask for aid. You are invaluable."

Your cheeks warmed and it wasn't from the fever. "Alright. Thank you, Commander."

He gave your hand a gentle squeeze. "Spock, please."

You gave him a small nod, your eyes closed. "Thank you, Spock," you whispered as you drifted off.

Spock tucked your hand close to you then got up to leave. He turned back to look at you one more time, his heart getting that same feeling he got when he saw you once he arrived. Then as you were talking with him about your findings he found himself being drawn to you by the light in your face and the excitement in your eyes as you spoke. And now he wished nothing more than for him to take your pain upon himself if that meant you were relieved of it.

He turned away, closed his eyes and took a deep breath then closed the door behind him. He tried to busy himself from his own mind by he cleaning up the main section of the bunker and contacting the ship to alert them of your condition. Of course, he wasn't surprised by what the captain said in return.

"How about you stay there and take care of her."

Thankfully, Spock didn't have any objection to the notion. So, he did just that. Almost a week of caring for you until you were the least bit better to walk around the bunker unaided. You were shy about his help at first but after the third time you puked on him it became clear that rank and time knowing each other didn't stop the two of you from bonding.

It started with him having to change out of his soiled uniform. He wasn't so sure at first but after changing into civilian clothing he didn't want to change back. And you weren't about to tell a handsome Vulcan what to do. Then you had trouble sleeping, your fever and body aches making it difficult. So, he would sleep on the floor by you, and on one occasion in the bed with you, strictly for medical purposes (or so you told yourselves) after a fit of night terrors. But it wasn't until after you were starting to show signs of improving that the both of you found it hard to be in the same room together without tripping over words or sharing long glances.

You were slower to catch on, Spock attributed that to your illness. But Spock had known the moment he first tucked you into bed. He had fallen in love with you. And what a feeling that was. All while taking care of you Spock learned that he liked doing that very much and found it hard to be bothered being around you so often. He only hoped you felt the same.

It was about time to be beamed back to the ship. All the information that was needed was reported back while you were recovering and now that you were better there was no reason to stay on the planet anymore. You found yourself on several occasions while packing trying to find ways to stay here with Spock. But none yielded wise or useful results.

You stood next to Spock as the last of the supplies were beamed back up, leaving the two of you there. Spock stood so close behind you at your shoulder that you couldn't help but lean back on him. He liked it because you had to look back and up at him when speaking to him and he liked the way your neck turned and how you would smile every time knowing what he was thinking and what he was doing. It was like the two of you were in sync some times. Spock found it fascinating.

You turned to Spock your hands clasped in front of you. "So. This is where we remember who we are and go about our duties I assume."

Spock raised a brow, stepping forward. "I fear you are mistaken in that matter."

You pretended to think hard about what he said. "Oh yes, I suppose I need to return the factor. With how much you have helped me I only hope I can find something that will suffice."

He stepped closer. "I believe I have a few ideas in mind. If you are keen for suggestion."

You smiled as you reached up on your tip toes. "I think I know what you are about to suggest Mr. Spock and I believe I will take you up on that," you whispered.

In no time Spock had you in his arms as your lips found his, the two of you fitting perfectly together as if cut from the same mold. And the beamed of being transported didn't stop either of you.

"Oi, get a room! Might as well have thought the transporter malfunctioned and fused the two of you together with the way you're going on like that." Scotty's voice echoed in the distance.

But neither of you listened to him as you made sure to show Spock how thankful you really were.
