Cryo Cure- McCoy

"Jim, you can't be serious."

Captain Kirk shrugged his shoulders. "Why not, Bones? It looks completely harmless."

Doctor Leonard McCoy unfolded his arms and walked up to Kirk, pointing at the screen that was showing a little pod floating around. "As harmless as the invisible vacuum of space. You can't know for sure what's in that thing."

"Then we'll scan it." Kirk looked to Sulu.

Sulu messed around on his console then looked up at the captain, wincing. "We can't scan it, sir. Too much unidentifiable interference."

McCoy gave a pointed look to Kirk. "Perfect. We can just leave it alone then. What you don't know won't hurt ya."

Kirk chuckled. "Oh come on, Bones! We have nothing else to do." He walked over to his grumpy friend wrapping an arm around his shoulders, pointing at the screen. "Where's your sense of curiosity?"

"Dead like a cat."

It was Kirk's turn to give him a pointed stare, smirking. "But satisfaction brought it back." With a wink, Kirk turned away from him and called for a crew to go out and retrieve it. "Bring it in guys."

Doctor McCoy rolled his eyes, folding his arms again. When his captain, and friend, told him that they had a couple weeks reprieve of missions, he had imagined sleeping in, routine check-ups, late nights at the bar, maybe a few evenings with a lady. He definitely wasn't planning on babysitting Kirk, a grown man who can't help but make stupid choices. The last thing he needed was Kirk to turn around and say-

Krik's voice interrupted McCoy's thoughts. "And you, my medically inclined friend, get to help us crack it open."

"Why am I not surprised," McCoy grumbled.

~

You winced as feeling started to prickled its way back into your fingers and toes. Your eyelids felt heavy so you resorted to your ears as you tried to piece together where you were. And when.

At first, everything was hazy, you couldn't make anything out. That is until suddenly light hit the back of your eyes lids, making you flinch. Suddenly everything was terribly loud. Including the angry southern who seemed to be hovering right over your pod.

"Good God. Nurse Jye, get our lovely captain in here."

"No need, I have acquired him." The second man sounded a bit stiff.

A third man joined in quickly, a slight laugh in his voice. "I'm here Bones. What's the problem?"

The southern growled. "Oh yeah, this is a problem alright. There is a damn woman in here, Jim!"

"What?" Awe riddled the second man's voice as you heard footsteps draw closer. "And she's not half bad looking either."

"Focus, Jim, use your head. Who does she look like?"

In the small stretch of silence that followed you started to feel your body suddenly come back to life, your lungs begging for hair as your muscles shook with reanimated shock.

They started talking again:

"Doctor, we must inform Starfleet command."

"Hold on to your ears Spock she's waking up."

"Wait, Bones is she really?"

The southern let out a breath. "Sure is. She's an-"

But you interrupted them with a gasping intake of air as you sat up, your eyes opening wide. Light blinded you as your arms flailed about, your heart hammering with both new life and rushing adrenaline. Suddenly arms gently wrapped around you, pulling you a strong warm chest. You closed your eyes relaxed as their heartbeat was calming you down, your breathing leveled and your body stopped shaking.

"Whoa there, steady, steady." The Southern's voice rumbled in your ears as you took deep breaths against his chest. "Welcome to the land of the living." He gently let you go, helping you lay back down in your pod.

You blinked wearily, looking around the brightly lit room. From the smell alone you could tell this was some sort of medical room. Your eyes soon adjusted as you tried to make sense of the people standing around you. Three men, a blond, a brunette and a...Vulcan? You shook your head, rubbing your hands on your eyes. This was not what you expected to see when you woke up. You blinked up at them again, your eyes traveling to the brunette, the assumed southern.

"Where am I?" Your voice sounded raspy in your ears and you cleared it.

But it was the blond that responded as the brunette grabbed you a glass of water. "Welcome to the starship Enterprise." He smiled, pointing to himself, "I'm Jim Kirk, Captain of this fine ship." He pointed to the Vulcan. "This here is Spock and that grumpy old man over there is-"

"Doctor McCoy," the southern butted in, handing you the glass as he nodded to the captain, "But that gnat calls me Bones."

You sat up slowly, nodding as you took the glass. "Thanks." You took a sip then looked around. "Looks like seven years was the golden number," you mumbled to yourself.

The Vulcan, Spock, turned his head slightly. "Seven years. As to what are you referring to?"

You downed the glass, putting it on a side table, rubbing your mouth dry. "Seven years. That's how long I have been sleeping. Long enough to," you stopped yourself, glancing down at the small pack at your feet tucked away and hiding your reason for being asleep. You shook your head. "I just need to see my grandfather." You sat up higher, swinging your legs over but you cradled your head as it started to spin.

Bones reached forward, pressing you gently back into the pod as he shook his head. "No can do sister. You need to rest and let your body acclimate to being awake again."

The captain nodded. "You've been out for a while."

You gave him a small laugh. "Seven  years isn't all that long."

Spock spoke up again. "Perhaps but sixty-three is."

Bones closed his eyes and sighed heavily. "Jim take your so-called "logical" friend and get the hell out of here. Kath-my patient needs to rest."

Captain Kirk raised his hands and backed up, nodding to the doorway behind him. "You got it Doc," he looked at you and smiled, "You're in good hands. The steadiest." he winked then turned to leave, callnig for the Vulcan over his shoulder. "Spock."

Spock bowed his in respect and back out, following the captain out of the medical room. You turned back to the doctor, not missing the slight shake of his head. You leaned back propped yourself up on your elbows, narrowing your eyes at him.

"Did I hear him right? Sixty-three years? I have been asleep for sixty-three years?! And you know my name. You were about to say my name. How do you know my name?!"

Bones pulled something out of a bin, looking it over before he turned to you, his shoulders sagging. "Right now, you need to sleep. This time when you sleep you will wake up feeling like your old self."

You watched in confusion and almost anger as he stepped over, pressing someting into your neck. You winced, rubbing your shoulder against your neck.

"And what, I'm going to wake up in a hundred more years."

Bones shook his head, putting away tools. "Not unless you want to."

You blinked slowly as you started to fall back into the pod, your limbs becoming heavy. YOu watched through half slit eyes as the doctor started to leave.

"Wait," you called out, weakly.

Bones stopped, turning to look at you, his eyes soft. You blinked slowly again, your breathing slowing down.

"My-my grandfather...is-is he still..."

Bones gave you a small smile, nodding. "Yeah, he's still alive."

You completely relaxed again, nodding against the pod pillow, your eyes closed. "Thank you," you whispered as you let the sleep consume you.

McCoy watched as you fell into a deep sleep, your chest rising and falling gently. He stepped forward and reached out to brush some hair from your face. Shaking his head he placed a blanket over you then walked away. Nurse Jye walked over, handing him your file. McCoy let out a defeated breath, speaking to no one in particular.

"Admiral Archer is going to be pushing up daisies faster than Sulu with his own arboretum."

The doctor stared down at your name shining on the report file.

(Y/n) Archer

He shook his head. "That is if he isn't rolling in his grave already."

You pulled at the sleeves of your new dress, the nicer fabric a drastic change from your twenty-second-century clothes making you feel itchy. Bones stood behind his desk collecting a few things before taking you to a meeting room with the captain and a few other officers ready to talk to the head of Starfleet.

So much had changed and you dared not think about it. There was only one thing worth worrying over and it was the one reason you were put to sleep in the first place. Lucky enough you were with the one man who you knew could help you. You placed a hand on your bag that hung on your shoulder as you stepped further into the doctor's office.

"Doctor McCoy?"

"Hmm?" he gruffed.

"I can't have you take me to them."

He raised his head, a brow lifted. "Why not?"

You bit your lip and looked around before stepping closer, his desk between you two. "You know who I am and I'm sure you have an idea what The Federation will want done with me if they knew I was alive."

Bones shook his head, folding his arms. "Don't you want to be reunited with your family. I'm sure they right well miss ya."

You smiled sadly, nodding. "Yes but," you reached in  your bag pulling out a now seemingly archaic container holding a few vials, "I put myself in a cryo pod for a reason and I believe you are the man to help me."

Bones looked over to his door, then back to you. "Go on."

You took a breath. "I have a few vials here filled with a few samples of a disease, an illness that had taken hold of a new colony I was helping relocate." You blinked back tears as you swallowed hard that the lump in your throat that was forming at the thought of all those people gone after sixty-three years. "But in my time we didn't have the technology to analyze it and create a cure or treatment for it." You placed it on the table, scooting it over to him. "But now I believe I am well enough into the future to be sure that something can be done now."

Bones picked it up, looking it over. "But how can you be sure your colony is still alive?"

You knew he meant nothing hurtful by it but it still hurt hearing your own primary worry voiced out loud. You cleared your throat and rubbed your neck. "I don't. But that doesn't mean that there may still be a chance they need this. My cousin, Eli Tucker, was quite adamant on picking a far planet. I'm sure you have passed it. I'm sure we can still check and see. But..."

You paused and Bones looked up at you, a vial of purple sludge small in his large hands. You chewed on the inside of your cheek, wondering how to proceed. But Bones was quick to catch on.

He sighed as he sat down, leaning back in his chair as he held up the vial to the light above him, moving it around. "But you can only do that with the Starfleet officials off your back and not doing medical experiments on you."

You laughed nervously, nodding. "Exactly." You looked him in the eyes, pleading. "So? Can you help me?"

Bones stared at the vial a little bit longer then set it down. Sitting up he rolled closer to you, his hands folding on the desk as he nodded slowly. "Yeah kid, I can help you. I'll bring the captain in so you can tell him what you told me."

You smiled wide then laughed. "I'm not a kid. I'm at least twice your age, old man."

Bones chuckled, "Touche." He stood and pulled at his shirt before leaving you to get the blond captain but not before turning to you and shaking his head slightly. "Though I don't see what the problem is being called kid. Most ninety-year-old woman would kill to have the body you do."

And with that he was gone, leaving you with a blush and a hammering heart. From his remark or the fact your plan was working, you didn't care. Sure you may be sixty-three years too late but you weren't about to give up on family.

AYYYYYY my readers! Dudes I'm so sorry for being dormant there for a bit.
