Challenge Accepted - McCoy

Leonard McCoy has stumbled upon, been brought attention to, and had broken up seventeen and a half fights of several kinds that Jim Kirk has either started or at least participated in. What he didn't know was that you had something to do with it. Kirk may talk a big talk but compared to you, he is all talk and no fight.

You may be Jim's younger sister of two years, that doesn't mean you are going to let bullies push you guys around. Plus, when you are close friends with a medical officer, you feel comfortable getting into fights knowing you were going to be seen by him. You took boxing, self-defense, karate, judo, and pretty much anything else you would need in a fight. You even took fencing lessons from Sulu from time to time. You never know when one of those petty officers would pull out archaic weaponry.

Usually, you would leave the fight scene before Bones showed up, then coming to him later to get your bigger injuries seen to, saying you were in a rough situation or the like. But this time, you miscalculated the strength of the last guy and you got injured badly.

You are light on your feet, fists brought up ready to defend yourself. The guy in front of you called you a sad excuse of a security officer. His mistake. He lunged, but you being a bit smaller than him, tucked and rolled under his legs. You get into a crouching position and swiped his legs. He lets out a grunt as he falls, banging his head on a nearby table. You stand up slowly, keeping your eye on him in case he got up.

You smirk and wipe a trickle of blood off your lip, turning around to look at the other guys passed out on the floor, including your brother. You were about to bend down to help Jim up when you heard a noise behind you, but you were too late to react. You turn around just in time to see a fist come flying at your face. You try to raise your arm to block him but his other arm came around faster, hitting you in your exposed gut. You let out a groan as you doubled over, only to be hit again on your shoulder and back. You try to blink away your pain and stand up straight, but he wouldn't let up. You are tired, hurt and really hungry so you do your best to keep yourself together. You stagger and raise your arms heavily, only to be punched in the face. You get thrown backwards but you didn't hit the floor like you thought you would. Instead, you feel your back hit a hard chest, feeling arms wrap under your arms and around your middle, keeping you up.

"Good God, woman! What is going on here?"

You turn your head as best as you could to get a look at the southern man behind you. "Why Bones, how nice of you to stop by." You smile as best you could with a busted lip, wincing in pain.

Bones rolls his eyes and looks at the guy you were trading blows with. He lets out a low growl as he gently sets you down on the only chair you didn't break over a guy's head. He stood to his full height and rolled up his sleeve, mumbling a few choice words under his breath. The beat up bully looked genuinely scared so you kicked your brother on the leg, getting his attention.

"Bro, look, Bones is ganna go try his hand in physical combat. Would you believe it?" You look down a Jim and smirk. He lets out a groan as he lifts his head slightly, giving a weak thumbs up to his friend.

"You got this Bones, you're my favorite," Jim mumbled then passed out cold.

You rolled your eyes and looked back at the fight. Bones through a couple swings, hitting him a few times, gaining a few hits himself. But it didn't last long before Bones let out a frustrated growl, throwing one last punch, hitting the guy right in the side of his face, knocking him out cold.

"And stay down, you pathetic excuse of a security officer." You smile wide, despite your split lip. You stood to meet Bones when he came closer.

"Would you look at that? Nice going Doctor. Not only do you know how to treat fight wounds, you know how to give 'em." You wince as you lift your arm to wipe a smear of blood off of his own lip. He takes your hand in his as he walked over to Jim.

"Come on man. I'm not your mother, I'm not going to carry you to the infirmary." Bones helps him up with his free hand, keeping yours securely in his.

The three of you with varying degrees of injuries entered the base infirmary. Bones made himself comfortable with the tools as you and Jim gently rested yourselves on examination beds. You look over at Bones and take in the extent of his injuries. A busted lip and bloody knuckles. You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding, he's too beat up. You close your eyes and wince as you tried to breathe normally. Your chest suddenly got tight and you started to lose feeling in your fingers and toes.

"Hey, uh, Bones...I don't think this normal, but uh," you try to take a deep breath as you heard Bones rush to you but you winced again, "I can't...I can't..." You look up at Bone with wide worried eyes, as you tried to regulate your breathing.

"Shhh, don't speak. Focus on breathing. You may have a punctured lung. A broken rib most likely did it." He growled at the end. "(Y/n), what were you thinking?! That man was at least twice as big as you." He started prepping you for surgery, calling in emergency staff and getting you sudated.

"I couldn't let Jim have all the fun."

"Yeah, looks like you have done this before, huh?" Bones let the nurses finish prepping you as he stroked your hair, taking you hand in his.

"Eh, maybe once or twice." You try to laugh but instead you coughed and blood came up. Next, you hear people shouting and Bones calling your name as darkness took over. Then you felt nothing.

Your eyes pulled open slowly and you swallowed dryly. Bones gets up from his chair next to you to get you a drink of water. You looked around you, taking in the late hour and the sleeping form of your brother on the bed next to you. Bones takes a cold, wet cloth and wipes your forehead. You let out a content sigh, making eye contact with Bones.

"Well, would you look at that. Sleeping Beauty doesn't need a true love's kiss to wake up after all."

You lightly laugh. "Nope, only your soothing southern drawl." You sit up painfully, Bones rushing forward to help you get comfortable. You thank him with a nod and he goes back to his chair, dragging it forward a bit to get closer.

"So I take it all those times you came in with those random wounds, it wasn't because you were dying to see me?" Bones sat in his chair sideways, his leg going over the edge, the other bent to his chest.

"As much as I wanna say your chocolate brown eyes were my soul reason for going to see you, I would be lying." You wince again as you lift your hand to touch his bandaged hand. "Are you alright?"

Bones looked down at your hand on his, him laying his other hand on top. "Yeah, I'm fine. I have wrestled a litter of baby Tellarites more fearsome than that pathetic man. You are doing good too, I was able to stop the bleeding and patch you up. He had a weak left hook." His breathing started to quicken, so you started stroking his hand.

"You know, he said the same thing about me being a 'pathetic excuse for a security officer'. I found it quite fitting that you called him the same thing." This time, you laugh again but it didn't hurt as much.

"Well as your Doctor and your friend, I advise you leave your brother to take care of himself. You are a lot more skilled than him, it worries me."

"Well, would you look at that? It doesn't take a rose petal to fall to turn the beast into a human." You wink at him as he scowled at you, but you could see the laughter in his eyes.

You yawn and winced, letting out a hiss of pain. Bones stands up and grabs a hypo to give you a painkiller. You nod to him in thanks, resting your hand on his arm. He puts the hypo down and sits on the edge of the bed.

"As soon as The Enterprise is done I am making sure you are assigned to guard the Med Bay. It'll make it easier to stay on top of your wounds." He smirks as he starts to pull the covers around you and move the pillows more comfortably. "I think it's time you rest, I am going to get some sleep myself."

You nod in agreement, taking his hand as he turned to leave. "Thank you for your help. I'm sorry I lied to you all those times before. I just hate seeing him get beat up all the time." You looked down a bit.

Bones stepped closer and put a finger under your chin, lifting it gently. "Don't worry about it. I'm just glad you had the good sense to come to me to patch you up." He smiled kindly at you, his eyes crinkling slightly as he moved a hair from your forehead. "Get some rest Sleeping Beauty. We both know you need it." He winks and then turns to leave.

You let out a snort. "Don't let the Beast take over for too long there, prince charming." You called after him. You hear his deep chuckle echo down the hall as you watched him go. You then closed your eyes as you nestled into the soft pillows. You were about to fall asleep when you were jarred away by your brother's obnoxious medicated laugh.

"You two are so sappy it makes me sick."

You roll your eyes as you throw a pillow at him. "Just die from your wounds Kirk, you're a pain in the butt as it is."

You hear him laugh again but he then mumbles something under his breath. "I bet it will take him another month to just kiss you." You blush as you close your eyes. Challenge accepted.
