Beautifully Strong - Chekov

You smiled as you sat on the observation deck four, staring out at the stars with the mass of people gathered to see the passing meteor shower. You felt someone bump you and a voice with a thick accent apologized. You just turned to him and smiled but your eyes widened at who it was; your all time crush: Pavel Chekov.

Chekov grinned at you as he decided to take a seat next to you. It has taken him almost two weeks to get the courage to finally approach you. He saw you working with Scotty from time to time and was yearning to get to know you. Funny thing was that you felt the same way about him, almost exactly.

But now that the two of you were next to each other no words came to mind. You were usually quiet, not liking to bring attention to yourself, so you mentally left it to him to start the conversation. But him being Chekov, the two of you jus sat there in a somewhat awkward silence as people made conversation around you.

Chekov cleared his throat and turned to you but the group of people let out a collective gasp as the meteor shower started. You gave the young Russian a kind smile as you turned to the stars. Chekov forgot what he was going to say as he did the same. The shower was short-lived but amazing to say the least.

As people got up and left, Chekov stood to leave but paused when you didn't move. Instead, you sat there, your hands placed neatly in your lap, your eyes fixed on nothing in particular out the observation window. Puzzled, Chekov sat back down and looked where you were staring.

"Is there another one you can see that I can't or have you fallen asleep with your eyes open."

You couldn't help but snicker at his comment. You glanced at him and gave him a small smile, placing your finger to your mouth. "Shhh. Don't tell everyone my secret. Sleeping with your eyes open is a talent that takes great effort."

Chekov's eyes widened at your reply. You have such a beautiful voice, he wasn't sure why you stayed quiet. But there was something about your demeanor that was a bit off. Almost like you were shy to move, let alone say anything to draw attention to yourself. Scooting a little closer, he leaned over and nodded to the stars.

"Do you come here often?" He winced. It sounded a lot better when the Captain said it, all confident and coy.

You smirked as his unoriginal conversation starter. "Yes actually. It just so happens that I will be spending the majority of my day here. So, if you wish to leave, you may. No need toasty here and accompany a stranded woman."

Chekov knit his brows. "Stranded? Are you being forced to stay here?" His mind immediately went to an abusive and suppressive boyfriend.

You gave him a weak smile. "To a point."

Chekov stood, reaching his hand out to you. "Then let me be your knight in shining armor and save you from this suppressive beast and escape somewhere."

You stared at his hand. He was being so sweet but you knew the moment he knew you at all he would walk away, just like all the others. "Thank you, Chekov, but as it turns out I am suppressed wherever I go." You turned your head from his hand and stared at your feet.

Stumped the young man before you sat back down with a look of confusion. "Well then, what can I do to help you?"

Your breath hitched and your eyes widened. You didn't think he would stay. As much as you liked him you didn't want him to have to deal with your problems. You glanced over at him only to be met with his turquoise eyes, looking at you beseechingly. You swallowed and looked back at the passing stars. You hate pushing people away.

"I wish there was something you could do. And I'm flattered. But unfortunately, there is little to be done and nothing you can do." You glanced at him one last time before squaring your shoulders and lifting your chin. "I suggest you go flatter someone else who will be able to reciprocate."

Chekov was shocked. You rejected him so quickly that it took him a moment to process what happened. But before he said anything he made sure to think before acting. So, he watched you. He saw how your fists were balled and you kept your eyes forward despite the tears that threatened to fall. He knew of you and has seen you around but there was always something a little off.

He never saw you standing.

Carefully, he reached over and took your hand in his. He breathed easier when you didn't pull away. You held your breath as he held your hand in both of his, his thumb stroking your knuckles.

"(Y/n), if you think I am going to leave you because you don't think you are perfect then you are extremely wrong."

You let out a breath and turned to him. "What do you mean?"

Chekov gave you a sweet smile and stood. He placed your hand back in your lap before leaning forward and placing a chaste kiss on your forehead. He stepped back placed his hands behind his back, rocking on this feet like an eight-year-old.

"You know what I mean. Take your time, I will wait. I'm not going anywhere."

With that he turned and left. You watched him go, your jaw slacked and your eyes widened. You were not only rendered frozen from his kiss but his kind words. You weren't sure if he truly knew what his words meant to you but he knew to give you time. He didn't ask questions and he didn't press for answers. Perhaps not all men are worth keeping at a distance.

"Miss (L/n)?"

You were jarred out of your thoughts by your nurse, Jay, calling your name. She stood next to you, here eyes looking on with worry. She probably called your name a couple of times. You sighed and looked one more time at the stars.

"Is it fixed?" You asked in monotone.

The nurse placed a hand on your arm. "Yes. Are you ready?"

You nodded mutely. Gently Nurse Jay picked you up and gently placed you in your cold metal cage. You stared at nothing as you were rolled out of the observation room in your primitive wheelchair. For the millionth time in the two years of your paralysis, you wished you weren't so pathetic. Nurse Jay rolled you to your room and helped you to the bathroom then to bed. You laid in bed, tears brimming your eyes at Chekov's words and at the fact that you will never be able to be the girl he deserved. You couldn't walk. Curse you and your poor health that won't even let you get implants to walk again. You fell asleep with wet cheeks and not for the first or last time.

Chekov made sure to see you every now and then talking about anything and nothing. He never brought up your disability and made sure to make you laugh at least once. You thoroughly enjoyed the moments you had with the Russian but your condition always loomed over you. But Chekov didn't care. He found himself falling in love with you and he had an idea that just may make you fall in love with him.

You were sitting in the observation room again, all alone save for a few cleaners touching up the room. Over the past few weeks, you learned to become comfortable sitting in your wheelchair, all thanks to Chekov. You were sitting alone trying to think of a way to tell Chekov you liked him but he didn't need to feel obligated to like you back because you were disabled but you hoped he would like you like you like him and...

You shook your head. It was no use overthinking it. Perhaps it was best to go on with the relationship like it was. No use making things worse. As you sat contemplating and staring out into the star filled space, Chekov walked in. He paused a ways behind you just to admire your profile. You were beautiful and he wanted you to know it and feel it. Taking a fortifying breath, he stepped up behind you and placed his hands on your shoulders as he leaned forward and kissed your cheek.

"I have something for you," he whispered to you as he smiled wide.

You reached up and placed a hand atop his. "Really? And it's not even my birthday."

Chekov chuckled as he walked around to kneel down in front of you. He took your hands and smiled wide. "It doesn't need to be your birthday to spoil my girl. I will need you to trust me though."

Your cheeks blushed and you nodded. "Alright. I trust you."

Chekov nodded. "Perfect." He moved behind you and started to push you out of the room. "You may find this hard to believe but we have found a way to help you."

You reached up again and placed a hand on his that held one of the handles. "Chekov this isn't something you should joke about."

Chekov bent over and kissed the back of your hand. "Good thing I'm not joking."

Your breath hitched and you let his words wash over you. Is he alluding to what you thought he was? Sure enough, you noticed where he was taking you; the Med-Bay. You stayed quiet as he rolled you in the room where you were greeted by Spock and Bones talking in hushed tones.

Chekov nodded to them. "Here she is."

Suddenly you zoned out. You did that when you were stressing out and when you didn't feel like thinking too much. Things blurred together; Chekov's voice, the feeling of being lifted onto a bed, Bones cheking your vitals, Spock asking youquestions that you answered roboticly. You were starting to come to terms whith what was happening. You turned your head to see Chekov sitting next to your bed, holding your hand. You tried to keep back tears but you were so overwhelmed by his love that you let them fall.

"Thank you," you whispered.

Chekov smiled, reaching out and wiping your tears away. "You are very welcome. I want these tears to be the last ones you shed without the use of your legs." He stroked your hair back and you closed your eyes to his touch. "When you wake up I will be right here, I am never leaving your side."

You kept your eyes closed as you felt him kiss your cheek then your forehead. You knew for a fact you loved him, with all your heart. He made possible the one thing you had wished for since the day you got injured.

You were getting your legs back.

You leaned your head on Chekov's shoulder as the two of you stood in the observation room, gazing out into the vast expance of space. Chekov held you to his side, his hands holding onto yours. After the surgery and weeks of theropy, he was elated to have you standing next to him. Several times he told you that if you didn't think you could finish the grooling thwropy then he would still love you and stay by you, wheelchair and all.

But you pressed on, earning you this wonderful moment and a future full of such moments and more. You moved your head and looked up at the man who made you find yourself again. Who helped you feel beautiful.

Chekov chuckled when he noticed you staring. WIhtout warning he turned his own head and closed the distance between you. His lips captured yours softly, making your toes curl. He pulled you closer and kissed you harder. You giggled against his lips and wrapped your arms around him. Suddenly your legs gave away but Chekov was ready.

He picked you up, kissing you again before setting you on the bench the two of you had sat on what felt like years ago. You sat on his lap, snuggling into his chest. You closed your eyes, heard a rustle then opened your eyes to see a ring staring back at you.

"Marry me. I want to hold you when you get tired and lay by you when you feel tears threatening to fall. I want to be by your side forever." Chekov whispered to you as you stared at the ring. "So, what do you say?"

You didn't say anything. Instead, you tackled him with a kiss, the both of you laughing and smiling in each other's arms. Your legs may not be completely healed but your heart was.
