Beating And Shouting - Scotty

"I still don't like the uniform." You mumbled under your breath as you pulled your cadet dress over your head. You look in the mirror and fix your white hair in a tall ponytail, then rubbed your black streaked face with your hands. Ever since you left that horrid planet with Montgomery Scotty and his friends, you have been going to Starfleet Academy in hopes of joining them on the new Enterprise. That meant wearing a uniform, but you would do anything to be with the kind engineer again.

You turned in your small apartment bedroom to change into something a lot more comfortable. As you pulled out an outfit from your closet your hand brushed against the clothes you had no heart to get rid of. You pulled it out just a bit, stroking it, a frown forming on your face.

"I am not trapped." You whispered to yourself for the millionth time that day. You closed your eyes tight and put it away, pulling out your comfy clothes.

You leave your room and go to make some food, not fully used to the synthesized food that they offered here. Though it was a big change moving here and you have been the busiest you have ever been in your life, it was a good change. Just not exactly what you are used to. You were about to pull out some food when you heard a knock at your door.

You froze, leaning around your cupboards to glance at your door. A few strong knocks echoed through your apartment causing you to jump slightly, but it was the voice on the other end of the door that caused you to smile wide.

"Hey there, Lassie, it's me."

You put the food back and rushed to the door, your yellow eyes wide with excitement. You took hold of the doorknob and threw the door open, coming face to face with your dear friend.

"Montgomery Scotty! Why do you come here?" You smiled but cocked your head to the side.

"What? Can a friend not come meet his girl?" He smiled as he walked in, taking a look around your place. "Looks like you got the higher end of the apartments." He turns to you, you not missing the bags of food in his arms. "Good because we are going to need to use that fancy kitchen of yours." He set the bags on your small counter as you closed the door and came up beside him.

You cross your arms over your chest, trying not to pout. "You are leaving for the exploring again, aren't you."

Scotty falters slightly as he pulled things out of the bags. "Aye, in three days." He turns and lets out a sigh as he rests his hands on your tense shoulders. "I wanted to stop by and say goodbye before I left. I know you have one of your tests soon and I didn't want to bother you then."

You huffed and turned away from him, wrapping your arms around your middle. "How long?"

He comes up behind you, resting his hand on your arm. "We aren't so sure. But come on lassie, I didn't come here to make you upset. I brought stuff for your favorite."

You turned, your face pulling up into a shy smile. "The long ones you slurp up with red sauce and balls of meat?"

Scotty smiled and tweaked your nose. "Old fashioned spaghetti. I'll teach it to you so you can cook it for me next time I see you."

You smile and eagerly help him prepare the food. As you worked beside him, laughing and learning, one thing kept nagging you in the back of your mind. You are going to miss Scotty, a lot. It was hard enough to only see him from time to time while he waited for the ship to finish being built but now you will have to cope with him being lightyears away. You did your best to keep a smile on your face, not wanting to ruin the last time you will have with him for a long while.

Scotty watch as you thoroughly enjoyed your dinner, making a mess of the sauce all over your face and hands but not minding because you were happy. Scotty frowns and takes the last gulp of his scotch before he stands to put his dishes away as you cleaned yourself up. He watches you, his frown still evident on his face. He really did not like the idea of leaving you here and right after helping you escape from Krall. But there wasn't anything he could do, despite having friends in high places and you being a very good engineer. You needed to finish schooling.

You put away your dishes and cleared the table. As the sink ran and you dried clean dishes, a slow but melodious sound flowed from behind you. You didn't know what to make of the softer music so you just continued to clean, that is until you felt a strong pair of arms reach around you and turn off the water and making put down the towel and plate in your hand onto the counter. Scotty turned you around so you were face to face with him, his hands holding yours.

"What is this Montgomery Scotty?" You whisper as you look into his eyes.

"This is music."

You rolled your eyes. "I know that. But it doesn't have the beating and the shouting." You blush as he smiled down at you. You look to the side, not wanting to look at him but still wanting to be close to him. "It is not as nice."

"Maybe this will change your mind."

Scotty then moves one of your hands to sit on his shoulder as he held your other to the side. You tensed when he put his hand on your waist, pulling you a little closer to him. You looked up at him, holding your breath as you waited for his direction. In beat with the music, he moved you gracefully around your small kitchen. You marveled at how amazing you felt in his arms as he smiled down at you, guiding you with special steps. You stare down at your feet and then look up.

"What is this we are doing?"

Scotty let out a hearty laugh. "This is called dancing. I am attempting to waltz but I think this is the foxtrot." He shrugged knowing that those words meant nothing to you.

You nodded and lost yourself in the rhythmic movement. You found yourself tempted to rest your head against his chest, but knowing you and how long you have kept your emotions to yourself, doing an action as small as that would end in an emotional mess.

The music changed to something softer and slower. Scotty changed to smaller steps. He adjusts his hand from your waist to further up your back. You look up at him and you immediately regret doing so. He smiled at you and you couldn't bring yourself to smile back. Your chin quivered and you looked away, blinking hard. What did you in was his quiet and deep voice whispering in your ear.

"It's alright (Y/n),  you don't need to hide it anymore."

You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, letting it out as you let your head lean against his chest, fitting in the crook of his neck. Tears started to fall then your breathing became harder to regulate then you stopped swaying. Scotty moved his arms to wrap them around you as you buried your face and cried. You held on to him for dear life, grasping fist fulls of his clothes. Scotty just let you cry it out, rubbing comforting circles on your back. You cried for your parents, for your friends, for your time being captive, for your difficult training and for Montgomery Scotty. Maybe now was an appropriate time to tell him how you felt. You let your cries die down though you still held on to him, mumbling into his chest.

"Don't leave me here. Alone. I don't want to lose you." You sniffed, keeping your eyes closed as you leaned into his neck a bit more.

Scotty looked up and blinked back a few tears threatening to fall. He looks down at your snow white hair, giving the top of your head a kiss before he leaned his head against yours. "I'm sorry lass. But I know you will do good here. I will make sure to get you on the Enterprise. If they won't let you then I will leave and they can find someone else to be their chief engineer."

You laughed lightly against his chest, moving to wipe tears from your face. You gently pulled away from him and looked into is smiling eyes. "And what ship will we work on?"

"Oh, I'm sure we could get an old clunker working. Enterprise 2.0, give Starfleet a run for their money." He winked.

"Don't forget the beating and the shouting."

"As long as I can bring Keenser."

You smiled wider and searched his face, committing it to memory. "I will miss you, Montgomery Scotty." You whisper to him.

Scotty smiled down at you, reaching up to wipe a stray tear. "And I will miss you, my bright-eyed lass. You will not be forgotten and you are not being left behind." He leaned down and gave you a sweet  kiss on the forehead. "You'll be back with us in no time." Scotty chuckled as he pulled you to him in a warm hug.

You smiled bittersweetly as you relaxed into his arms once more, swaying to the gentle beats of the music you have come to enjoy. Scotty held you to him, committing your feel to memory as he made a mental note to not make you cry again. It nearly broke him feeling you sob against him. But now he feels like he can go into space with a purpose, looking forward to sharing his beautiful ship with his beautiful Lass.
