"Can't believe we'll be parents." Jim mumbled, taking a seat beside you on the couch. You were seven months pregnant and feeling quite massive in all honesty. You just smiled and leaned over, kissing his lips. Jim smiled and wrapped an arm around you, tracing circles on your stomach.
"You're excited aren't you."
You say, kissing the top of his head and running your hand through his hair.
"I can't wait. I personally want a boy but a girl would be great too." Jim said, continuing to trace circles on your stomach. You grinned.
Two months passed and you were in labor. Things weren't looking good. To McCoy, it was a choice now. Save you to save the baby. Jim wanted to save you, you two could always just adopt kids. But you wanted to save your baby. Jim argued, he held you hand and sobbed, begging you to change your mind. You wouldn't budge. The life of your child meant much more to you than your own life.
You died three hours after having a baby girl. Jim lay in a bed in sickbay, his baby girl on his chest. She looked just like you, same eye and hair color. Jim gently rubbed her back and kisses the top of her head, tears pouring down his face. One thing he thought he should be great full for is that you lived long enough to see your baby and to say goodbye to Jim.
Many hours passed and Jim never moved. He just laid on that bed, tears running down his face now and then, the baby still in his arms. Only taken away to change a diaper or to be given a bottle.
Days later, McCoy diagnosed Jim with a form of PTSD. He hadn't truly been through a traumatic experiences like most sufferers of PTSD do, but with the loss of a truly loved one, it can happen.
Jim was always there for Y/N Kirk, she was named after you, her mother. Jim was there for everything. Her first cold, first day of school, first boyfriend, last day of school, her wedding, her first child, her second child, and everything like that. She was his world, all he had left to remind him of his once lovely wife, Y/N....
