Kirk

"C'mon Dawson, can you say something?" Your husband asked your one year old son. Jim had been wanting your son Dawson to talk for ages. It was the one thing he had really been looking forward to, which surprised you. Most parents look foreword to the next step, like crawling to walking to running. He just wanted talking.

"Jim, honey, please stop rushing him. Doctor McCoy said Dawson has a little bit of a learning problem, it's going to take him longer to talk." You say, sitting beside the two of them on the floor.

"I know I know. I'm really looking foreword to this. I want him to day Enterprise." Jim told you, smiling. He was holding Dawson up in a standing position.

As mentioned before, Dawson had a bit of a learning problem. It wasn't anything too serious, he would just be behind on things. Including physical things, most physical motions include learning and remember. Dawson could stand, but his balance was a bit off and Jim didn't want him to fall.

"How about he starts with saying 'mom' or 'dad' or something easy like that." You suggest, laughing with Dawson as he giggled. Jim tickled him a little, making him start to giggle even more.

"Fine fine fine." Jim mumbled, smiling at the little boy in his arms. "I love him so much." Jim muttered, sighing to himself. He looked over at you, his eyes bright. "Thank you."

"For what?" You ask, sitting closer. Jim just smiled more and sighed again.

"Having him. I know you hated it, you complained all the time." Jim told you, picking Dawson up and holding him.

"You know, I would go through pregnancy again for another kid. They are the best and all the pain was completely worth it." You tell him, wrapping your arms around the two of them.

"Dad." A little voice said from in your arms.

"Did he say dad?!" Jim exclaimed, his voice getting louder.

"I think he did! Very good Dawson!" You say, kissing his cheek.

"Dad!" Dawson yelled, lightly clapping his hands. You clapped with him, smiling wide.

"Can you say mom?" Jim asked immediately, still grinning.

"Jim, don't rush him." You insist. "I'm just thrilled he said dad."

"Mom." Dawson muttered, looking up at Jim.

"Did he?! He actually?!" Jim exclaimed, his voice getting higher as his tone got louder.

"Awe! Dawson! Yay! You said mom!" You exclaim, tears forming in your eyes. Jim handed him to you and you hugged him tight, tears really streaming down your face.

"Can you say Enterprise?" Jim asked him, his eyes full of hope.

"Jim, not yet." You warn, still happy about Dawson. Everyone kept smiling, no one could stop.

"Dad. Mom." Dawson repeated, lightly hitting you over and over. He loved to do that.

"Oh my god." Jim mumbled, hugging and Dawson. "This is perfect."

"I know it is. It's great." You mumble, kissing Jim's and Dawson's cheek. Dawson was talking a little. This is the best day ever.
