Being back on Earth was always great. Especially when your captain, and close friend, decided to invite everyone to Iowa to visit. There wasn't too much to do there, but he lived near a lake, so there was fishing. A few bars were in the town as well, even a bowling alley. Kirk suggested bowling since that was a better way of expressing competitiveness then Phaser Tag that you played on the ship.
Everyone came. "So, who wants fishing? I suppose I'll have to teach some of you." Kirk said, eyeing you and Sulu. Neither of you had ever been fishing before, so this would be new.
"What makes you think we can't figure it out?" You say, taking a fishing line and in hooking the hook from the pole. It started to swing around, nearly hooking onto Spock's face.
"That. That makes me think that." Kirk said, taking the pole from you and re hooking the hook on the pole.
"What about me?" Sulu asked, starting to take the defensive side.
"You might be okay, but she obviously knows nothing." Kirk said, pointing at you.
"Hey! I know a lot, just not about fishing." You say, running out of comebacks. Kirk just laughed and shook his head.
"How about we just go bowling? Form teams and go against each other?" Scotty suggested, taking the fishing poles from Kirk and Sulu. Everyone nodded in agreement and went to the bowling alley.
"Okay, so my team is Sulu, Y/N, and Kirk." Chekov said, confirming the team status'. Everyone nodded and went to the different alleys. Uhura, McCoy, Spock, and Scotty.
"Let's do this!" Uhura yelled, getting herself a ball.
The games started out normal, until the little Russian Whiz Kid decided to come out of his pretensive 'I'm so bad at bowling' shell. He started getting strikes left and right, trying to play it off like he was just lucky. Spock ended up being pretty good too, winning almost every game in his team.
"I have an idea...." Chekov started saying, a smirk on his face. Bowling had finished, so everyone went to a bar for a couple drinks. They managed to sneak in Chekov, despite him being underage. You had just turned twenty one, so you had this luxury.
"Oh no, here we go." Scotty said, taking a swig of scotch.
"It's not a bad idea. Kirk has one big boat we can use right? Maybe we can go out in the lake tonight and fish? Or just throw each other off.." Chekov suggested, drinking Sprite that they had ordered for him. He may be allowed in the bar, but no one would let him drink out. Although, they promised the possibility at home.
"Well we know who's going off the boat first." McCoy said, taking a sip of beer. Nyota playfully pushed Chekov, causing the young boy to loose his balance and fall already.
"Why me?" He asked, pretending to sound hurt.
"You suggested it, you go first. It is logical." Spock said, drinking a water. Chekov laughed and rolled his eyes, sitting back down.
"Fine fine. Let's do it." Chekov said, getting up and walking outside.
"I guess we are going now." You say, paying your share in cash before following out to one of the cars.
Back at the house, everyone went into the boat and set out on the lake. Lights were turned on so they could see and people put life jackets on. Only if you planned to go into the water, but at this point no one knew who would and who wouldn't.
Chekov was at the bow of the ship, staring out at the horizon of stars above a line of trees. He stood up for one second, only to be tackled by Sulu and taken over board. Both of them popped up a couple seconds later, the life jackets bringing them up.
"Hey!" Chekov yelled, his teeth starting to chatter. His usually very curly hair was now stuck to his face and head, making him look so much younger than he was.
"Hey, I went down with you!" Sulu protested, swimming to the side of the boat where the ladder was. As he tried to get back in, Kirk tackled him back into the water. Sounds of laughing and sputtering filled the air, splashing coming into the mix as well.
In the midst of your laughing, you put on arm on the edge of the boat. Your fatal mistake. Kirk grabbed your arm and pulled you in.
The water was freezing cold, but when you moved around you warmed up to it. Everyone else sook joined in the water, even McCoy.
Back at the house, everyone warmed up with mugs of hot chocolate or coffee. Chekov had coffee with a little vodka in it. His treat for the night. Blankets were wrapped around everyone, each person cocooned in their own wrap. A perfect end to a perfect day.
