✯23~ What did he do to you?✯ ✅

My biggest fear in life is having to choose between my two best friends. If I choose, one could loose everything, if I choose the other, I'd loose a life long friend. Both mean more to me then anything and I'd rather loose myself then loose either of them.

Gently flicking my tail, I watched on calmly while Thomas stood up to leave the room. Shimmer was sleeping peacefully although she was still trembling slightly but I'd hoped that would fade given time. Thomas had to talk with Alyssa, Amy and Nick outside so I would stay here keeping a close eye on Shimmer as usual. There was obviously a lot of trauma pent up in such a small little girl.

I made myself comfortable and laid down by my trainer's side, closing my eyes for a moment before opening them and watching Shimmer carefully, keeping on alert as normal.

The door creaked open, my fur bristled as I turned to see who had entered, tensing up for a moment but relaxed and let my fur down when I saw it was only Dusk, Thomas's Umbreon and one of my closest friends.

He looked up at me and cocked his head to the side. ~Hey Shiver.~

I gave him a blank look. ~You shouldn't be here.~

~Come on Shiv, I know it's you so drop it. Why are you acting so...different?~ Dusk looked up at me sadly. ~It's not like you to be this guarded.~

I looked away, trying to rid myself of the guilty feeling that knotted my stomach. ~I can't say, you wouldn't understand.~ I couldn't trust him enough to say anything.

Dusk jumped up on the end of Shimmers bed and I shot him a warning look, not trusting anyone near the injured child. ~No Shiv, you don't understand. You disappear for nine months, reappear with a girl who we don't even know if she's really your trainer only to disappear for another month five days later. Do you know how much I missed you? I thought you were dead.~ His ears drooped, looking very much hurt.

Sitting up straight, I positioned myself between Shimmer and Dusk as I sighed. ~Dusk, I'm sorry. I really am but until I'm sure I can't risk telling you anything.~

The Umbreon looked very much frustrated with me. ~But why? Is Shimmer Alice?~

I turned slightly, looking at Shimmer. ~I made a promise to her, I'm going to keep it.~

Dusk frowned. ~But why can't you tell me? Don't you trust me?~

Sighing softly, I shook my head. ~I don't know who I can trust right now, but until I'm sure I need to keep Shimmer safe. I need to protect her until...~ I drifted off and shook my head again. ~Just drop it.~

~No I won't just drop it.~ Dusk hissed, his tone setting of the protective alarm in my head that made me prepare to defend Shimmer. ~Do you know torturous it was for me not knowing of I'd ever see you again!?~

I glared at him, his words grating against my already agitated nerves as I silently told him to shut up. ~I'm warning you, drop this right now Dusk. Go away and leave us alone, Shimmer needs to rest and you're most likely going to wake her up and trust me, do that and I will skin you alive. So shut the distortion-world up about things being torturous because trust me, you have no idea. Just shut your snout, turn around and leave.~

Dusk's face fell. ~Shiv...~

~Now.~ I hissed, subconsciously making my fur spike and radiate cold.

Hanging his head, Dusk took a step back. ~Okay Shiver...~ he jumped off the bed, glancing at me once more before he left, much to my relief.

I dropped down and curled up into a ball, burying my head in my paws. ~I'm sorry Dusk, but... I made a promise and I'm going to do my best to keep it.~ I closed my eyes for a moment, hearing my trainers voice whispering to me, begging me to keep my promise. It was the last time I was sure who my trainer really was.

Opening my eyes once more, I looked at Shimmer, she'd defiantly been through a lot over the past month. Her cheek was deeply bruised, a splotchy mix of purples, blues, pinks and some sort of yellow-green colour and as if it was possible, she seemed to have dropped even further in weight, if she didn't start eating properly soon, she would get very sick. Her breathing was heavily laboured and although she didn't snore, her breath was weezy, it was very clear how weak she was.

Slowly I stood up, carefully walking up to the head of the bed. Shimmer was holding her purse close to her chest which had her three Pokéballs in it, Thomas let me out before giving Shimmer her purse so I could watch over her. I curled up atop her pillow and rested my head on my paws, watching her closely. ~Don't worry Shimmer, I will keep you safe. I will keep my promise and keep you safe.~ I let myself relax but not sleep.

I just had to keep my promise.

It was all I knew I could do right now.

~💫~

My ears twitched as the argueing on the other side of the door continued making me sigh in irritation, at this point they would rouse Shimmer. "You don't understand, she's too weak right now." Thomas hissed from the other side of the door. "She's scared and sore. Shimmer needs rest."

"Come on Thomas, she must have learned at least something, and we need to find out what." Nick hissed back. "Stop being selfish."

Thomas was obviously quite agrivated with Nick's words but he kept his tone much calmer. "No Nicolas, you didn't see her when she was in there like I did. She could barely move, she was so weak and frightened. Right now, she's tired and sore so we need to be gentle with her until she gets better." Thomas retaliated.

"We need to know." Nick demanded.

"I'm warning you right now, if you go in there, I swear I'll make you regret it." Thomas hissed in reply.

"Yeah right." Nick sneered.

"You're just jealous because I was right about Shimmer being important."

Shimmer let out a whimper, her eyes fluttering open. At first, she looked around fearfully before her tear-filled gaze landed on me and relaxed. "Sh-shiver?" She whimpered.

I stood up, padding over to her so I could ease her out of her fear ridden state. Rubbing the top of my head against her cheek, I purred gently in reassurance.

She raised her hand shakily to my back. "I-it's not a dream." She mumbled and closed her eyes again for a moment before looking up at me pleasingly, a single tear slipping from her eyes. "Is it?"

I shook my head and curled up against her, against the little nook next her shoulder and head where she could see me and feel me near.

Shimmer started sobbing and pulled me from my spot and into her arms, holding me close. "I-I was scared. I-I tho-ought that it was a dr-dream." She cried weakly while burying her face in my coat.

Sighing softly, I nudged my wet black nose against her cheek and frowned for a moment at what I felt, something wasn't right. I placed the flat of my tail against her forehead just to make sure, and sure enough my hypothesis was confirmed. Shimmer had a fever, and it was high one.

~Stay here.~ I told calmly, even though she couldn't understand, before I licked her cheek.

I jumped off the bed and ran from the room to find Thomas and Nick still arguing, this would go on for a while if I didn't step in - I let out a hiss and they both turned to me.

"What is it Shiver?" Thomas asked worriedly, completely dropping the arguing.

With an annoyed sigh, I rolled my eyes. ~Who cares what I say right now because neither of you can understand me.~ I nodded to Shimmer's room, gesturing for them to follow with a flick of my tail.

"Is something wrong with Shimmer?" The raven-haired trainer asked.

~Peachy.~ I replied, leading the way in and jumping up on Shimmer's bed, sitting by her side and waiting for them to do something. She had her eyes closed again, sweat dripping down her forehead as she gasped for air.

"What has he done to you?" Thomas mumbled pressing the back of his hand against her forehead. "She has a fever." He said worriedly, concern blooming of his features as he turned to Nick, watching with concern from the doorway. "Go get Amy."

Nick nodded before fleeing the room to find Amy.

Thomas turned back to Shimmer and took one of her small delicate hands in his. "It's going to be alright Shimmer." He whispered looking over her with worry. "I promise I'll look after you."

The words tugged on my heart strings as I turned away briefly, taking in a deep breath to calm myself down. 'Promise' what a meaningless word, yet one I valued so highly, enough so I'd do everything in my power to keep myself for breaking one. Especially my last.

So what do you think about Shiver's pov? A couple if you were saying you wish you knew what she was saying so... yeah. Pay attention to the stars at the top of the chapter cause they'll tell you who's pov it is, but it'll only be between Shimmer and Shiver. Anyway, in a chapter or two I'll tell you how exactly Thomas and the others knew where Shimmer was but for now add it to the things you don't know.

Here's a little fun fact, I often reread this book a bunch of times to see if there's anything that I can change into something important. XD one of those things will come in next chapter.

Welp *rides shooting star over the rainbow* I'll update soon hopefully.

Edit: Remember to point out any noticed spelling or grammar errors, I do the best I can but I'm not perfect.
