Epilogue
several years later...
Mason pulled up to the driveway and took in a shaky breath. He stared at the little countryside cottage house, absolutely terrified. It has been eighteen years a lot has happened in eighteen years. Mason jumped when he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder. He turned to look at Grace. She smiled sweetly. "It's going to be ok." She told him. "You got this." Mason breathed out shakily again and nodded.
"I hope so, Grace," he said. "I just hope she remembers, that's all." Grace scoffed.
"I doubt a mother would forget about her own child." Grace said then hug her round belly. "I know I won't." Mason smiled then leaned towards his wife to give her a kiss on the lips.
"I know." He said. "And you're going to make a great mother."
"Don't give me all the credit, you're going be a great dad too." I hope so, Mason thought.
"If you two are done with your motivation talk, can we get a move on, I don't have all day you know." Zuna said popping her head between the two front car seats. Grace laughed.
"Yes, Zuna, we know." Grace looked at Mason. "Ready?"
"Ready as I'll ever be." He said and together Grace and Mason got out of the car. "You two stay here for moment, got it?" He said poking his head through the open car window. "Just in case she doesn't remember nor know anything about the dragons."
"Yeah, yeah." Zuna said and hopped into the seat that Grace vacated. "Just hurry up."
"A-and bring f-food!" Moonstone said from the back seat. "H-hadn't eat-ten al-all day."
Don't we will." Grace said and both she and Mason walked up the drive and to the front door. Mason raised his hand to knock, hesitated, then knocked lightly on the door. A few moments later, a woman in her mid-fifties opened the door. She had graying brown hair and brown eyes that once they landed on Mason they widen. She stifled a small gasp.
"Are you Lucy Reynolds?" Mason asked. The woman stared for a moment, then slowly nodded her head.
"I am." She said then, "you look much like your father. I thought for a moment that you were." Mason visibility flinched at being compared to his father. "Oh, I'm sorry, I did not realize the pain he must have brought you." She opened the door and slowly stepped out to greet her son. "You were so young when I left." It was her turn to flinch. "I-I did not wish to leave you... and your sister. But your father thought I was nuisance and was interfering with everything that involved that dumb prophecy.
"So he had his goons take me away from you and your sister. They put me in this cottage and checked up on me every once in a while." She sighed deeply. "Then I heard what happened, with him being arrested in all, but I was too afraid to leave to see you... your father and the rest of his family and crew still lurk and cause trouble." She looked up at her son. "I am so sorry, Mason." Mason balled his hands in fist. He wasn't mad at his mom, no, it was his father.
"I don't blame you." Mason said trying to control his anger. "I blame him." He then looked at his mother. "I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of finding you if I blamed you." His mom sighed with relief. She then took a step forward and reached out to his face with her hands. Then with a smile she hugged him, tightly. Mason, shocked at first but then felt relief and a sense of security. He hugged her back, tighter.
"I've waiting several years to see you again." She whispered a small sob escaping her.
"Me too." He said. When they pulled away, it was then Lucy noticed Grace.
"Oh!" She said. "I had completely disregarded you; I apologize! Who may you be?"
"This is Grace," Mason said. "She is my wife." Lucy's eyes widen and she fully took in Grace and even gasped when she saw Grace's round belly.
"Oooh happy days!" Lucy said and hugged Grace. "She is absolutely beautiful and is glowing!" Grace laughed and hugged her back.
"So you know about the prophecy and the dragons?" Grace asked when they pulled apart.
"Of course I do!" Lucy said. "I must admit it took some time to get used to seeing mythical creatures, but yes I do." Grace looked at Mason. "And you, know about the prophecy and dragons?" She asked and Grace smiled softly.
"You can say that." Grace said and pulled up her sleeve to reveal the Mark. "It was Mason and I who fulfilled it." Lucy but her hand to her heart.
"That brings me great joy to hear." She said and turned to Mason. "Your father was so against it." Mason snorted in agreement. Lucy suddenly gasped. "Oh how rude of me! Please you must come in! We have so much to talk about!" Lucy opened the door to let them in.
"I'll be in in a moment," Grace said. "There are two dragons in a car that probably wish to get out."
"Why if course!" Lucy said. "Bring then in! I'll get some tea going." With that Lucy disappeared into the house. Mason stood there for moment not knowing what to do. Grace placed her hand on his forearm.
"Go." She said gently. "It's going to be ok. I'll be in shortly. You deserve this." Mason took in a deep breath and nodded.
"Yeah, I do." He said and gave Grace a kiss on the lips. "Thanks to you, you know?" Grace smiled.
"I know." She said and headed towards the car to grab the dragons. As she did Mason took in another breath and stepped inside the house, ready to finally get to know his mother. End
