chapter 4: Nothing Makes Sense

Five months past and Grace was getting more confused by the days. First her uncle's weird behavior and always having him talk in the forbidden room to who knows who, and not that, but the strange books in his library and the book that was confiscating from her. School was worse. It has seemed that no matter what Grace did, she has always had some run-in with Mason. To avoid the mysterious boy, Grace had to take a completely different route home. Uncle Tom would make matters when he always doubled checked Grace to make sure that she wasn't anywhere near Mason. But when Grace kept asking why, Tom would shut her out. Disappear into his study until dinner.

He wouldn't tell Grace anything. Every night before bed Grace would try to open the forbidden door but every time it was locked. Why? What could be in there that Tom doesn't want Grace to know. Grace laid on her bed that night being face to face with her dragon stuffy asking questions to it hoping she might get an answer from the little animal. The only thing she got is a blank stare. Grace would sigh and decided to get some shut eye. Nothing makes sense anymore, Grace thought before she fell asleep.

At lunch the next day at school, Cami noticed something off with her friend. "You, ok?" She ask.

"Just fine." Grace mumbled.

Cami tilted her head to the right. "You sure?" She ask again.

"Yes, I'm sure." Grace said getting annoyed and Cami sensed that Grace didn't want to talk more on the matter.

After school, Grace started walking home when she heard someone call after her, "you think you could avoid me, eh, Anders?" It was Mason. Grace continued walking, but said,

"isn't home that way." She pointed to where Mason lives.

"Yeeeees, but I think I should walk with you. That's all."

Grace rolled her eyes. "What do you want?" She ask.

"Me? No! Not me. It's what you want, isn't it, Anders?" He smirk. She paused and so did he. "You're special you already know that with the mark and all. But do you really want to know, why your life is.... Well... Upside down. Well let me tell you.... No better yet, let your uncle tell you. He's the one that's keeping things from you." Mason smirked again. Grace turned her head away from him, but when she turned back, he was gone.

~~~~
Mason watch from a distance as Grace twirled around looking for him. He chuckled to himself and went walking home. Mason knew that Grace needed to know her destiny, but why should he tell her, it's not his job. Or was it? It doesn't matter. Mason shrugged off the thought and continued walking his mind thoughtful. He turned the corner to his house which also was a fancy house because his father owned a business that owned other businesses. Mason walked up his driveway. No car. Good. His father wasn't home. Mason isn't entirely evil; he just acts like it. Entered his house he threw his bag across the floor. "Home!" He shouted.
"Well it's about time!" Hissed a voice in his head.
"Where are you?" He ask. ''
"couch." It said. Mason walked into the living room finding a purple body dragon with black lighting horns, chest and belly, and spikes. The dragon was the size of a cat.
"Hello there, Zuna." He said peering down at her.
"Yes, hello to you, young master, but where's my food! I've been waiting hours for your return!" Zuna snapped. Mason rolled his eyes and began to walk into the kitchen. Zuna flew straight in when she heard the refrigerator door open. She landed herself down on the counter. Mason pulled out a dragon fruit which is what the dragons eat and gave to Zuna. She snatched it away from him and began to devour her meal.
"So..." She finally said after she ate. "Did you talk to the north star girl today?" She licked her lips getting whatever was left of her meal.
"Yes." Mason said walking away.
"And!" Zuna said flying after him and heading upstairs.
"And of course she doesn't know." Mason said climbing up the stairs and heading towards his room.
"Well, that's not good." Zuna rested on Mason's bed.
"She needs to know."
"I know, but I'm not the one to tell her." Mason stated.
"And why not?" Zuna questioned.
"Because it's not my job, Zuna. That's why."
"But the prophecy, stats..."
"I know what the prophecy states you, stupid dragon!" Zuna gave him a warning growl. "Sorry." Mason apologized. He sighed and sank down his desk chair staring at the ground.
"Well, it's either you tell her or by the time the sun and the moon, meet..." She trailed off.
"I don't need to anything and again it's not my job to tell her. Her stupid uncle can do that."
"And what if he doesn't. What then, wise guy?" Mason glared at her. "You know you sound just like your father." She said licking her paws. Mason stood angrily and pointed at her.
"I am nothing like my father!" He shouted at her. Zuna didn't flinch at his reaction.
"Then stop acting like it." Was all she said. Just then the sound of a car pulling the driveway stopped their conversation. Father was home. "Oh, good." Mason said before heading downstairs.
