Chapter V: Cheering up
"Falco, where are you taking me?" Fox asked, blindfolded.
"Were almost there." Falco said. Fox struggled to get his hands untied. Fox felt more ashamed that a trained mercenary couldn't get his hands untied. Fox just had to sit and wait until the car stopped. It felt like an add that you couldn't skip. Mostly because after Falco said that, It was 30 seconds before they arrived and stopped moving. Longest 30 seconds of Fox's life.
...
"Falco, just unblindfold me!" Fox exclaimed as Falco had his arm around his shoulders, guiding him. He finally felt the blindfold coming off just a bit.
"And... we... are... here!" Falco exclaimed as he ripped off Fox's blindfold.
All of team Starfox was lined up in front of the table: Slippy, Peppy, Peppy's daughter Lucy, even General Pepper's hologram, all of them were there.
"Surprise!" Falco shouted, going in the middle of the group.
"Aw guys!" Fox said "You didn't HAVE to-"
"Oh yes we did!" Falco cut him off.
"We thought you were broken beyond repair!" Slippy said
"Please shut up, Slippy" Falco said.
Slippy looked at General Pepper. "He just told me to shut up!" he exclaimed
"Yes." Pepper said. "Thank you, Falco." Slippy looked irritated.
"We thought this would be good for you. A little party. With people" Peppy's daughter finally spoke.
She sounds very familiar... Fox thought. She had a cool British accent. Kinda like...
Fox looked around and saw a small lake that reflected the sun's setting rays perfectly over its waters. He ran to it quickly to wash his face and make the tears seemingly disappear. But really, each tear that a person sheds in his or her life gets grind into their skin, their fur, their soul.
"Goddammit" Falco shouted "Go cheer him up. Quickly!"
"Gladly" A British accent said as it leaped over the table and walked towards the Lake that Fox was at.
...
Fox collapsed to his knees, washing his face, breaking his reflection. Everyone saw him as a big, strong, ace pilot who didn't know what fear or sadness was. In reality, he knew it more than anyone else. He had both of his parents die, had Peppy almost die (Not really), and even had some near-death experiences himself. The entire team looked up to him as a leader. He knew it pained each one of them to see him broken over something as simple as he was getting all sad about. He felt really bad for dragging his team into the deep hole that he was already in.
He suddenly heard a voice behind him. "Tell me what's wrong." It said as a gentle hand patted his back.
"Look, Lucy." Fox replied "I don't wanna ta-" He turned around to see it wasn't Lucy. Definitely not Lucy.
"I don't think I'm Lucy" Krystal replied.
...
As the rest of the team ate, Pepper's hologram was gone since he just wanted to see how Fox was doing, Falco sat in the bed of his truck, tinkering with little things he found, avoiding eye contact with anyone who tried to come over to him.
Well, thought Falco, at least Fox isn't all mopey. But how will the kiss from yesterday affect our friendship?
"Falco!" Peppy interrupted his thoughts by yelling to him. "Are you eating or not?"
Falco sighed and went to the table to see only one spot available: Next to Fox. Falco cursed himself for not putting more seats. Its not like Falco didn't want to sit next to Fox, its just awkward sitting next to someone who kissed you while intoxicated. Falco took a seat hesitantly.
"Hey Falco." Fox said as he sat down. Falco just replied with a quick 'hey' and looked away to avoid eye contact. Fox noticed this and frowned for a second. "Falco, can I talk to you for a second?"
Dammit, Falco thought. What does he want?
"Yes?" Falco asked as they sat in the bed of Falco's truck.
"You seem kinda..." Fox stuttered. "...Distant. Is it because of our..." Fox looked at the table with all their friends. "kiss?" He said quiet so no one heard him.
"Actually, yea. A little." Falco replied. "I know we said we would never let it affect our friendship. I know that Krystal and you are a good pair, and I'm almost sure I'm not..."
"Wait. What do you mean 'almost sure?'"
"Well... Its hard to say... but..."
Fox sighed. "The kiss made you question your sexuality. Its completely ok. I have no such regrets, and I hope you don't either."
"You took the words straight out of my mouth." Falco smiled.
"Like I said, I have no regrets. I'm sure that, at worst, we wouldn't be able to take each other seriously. But at best, it would probably strengthen our relationship with each other." Fox said with a smile. "And plus, the kiss meant nothing sexually. I was just wasted and lonely."
"Well," Falco said after a long silence. "I'm glad we talked about this." He said, walking back to the table
